    Default Discouraged newbie

Ok, so I’ve danced two nights so far; last Sunday and Tuesday. I know those are typically slow nights, but I wanted to ease my way into dancing. Sunday actually went really well at first. Being on stage was so exhilarating! I managed to get a big spender who just wanted to talk. I was feeling so good…until I managed to lose a good chunk of all the money I had just received, and everything went downhill after that. I walked away with $95 after tip out. Still, I was pretty optimistic afterwards, I just chalked it up to a bad first night.

Went back on Tuesday. Left with $50 after tip out. I cried the entire drive home. I just don’t understand it…I’ve been reading HH for months now, I haven’t been using the word ‘dance’ at all when trying to sell, guys would stop me and shower me with compliments, and then I still couldn’t sell them a dance?!

It’s just a huge disappointment for me. I used to make at least $200 a shift just selling shots. I made more than $50 a night just waitressing at the club, but I despised being a waitress. I actually like dancing, and I want to succeed at it.

I decided after Tuesday to take a break for a few days. My confidence was just so shaken that night. I plan on going back Monday to try again. Sorry for the long post, I just had to rant! There’s nobody I can really talk to about dancing.

don't let the bad nights get to you. The next time you walk in is a new night and a new opportunity to earn! what do you mean by 'lost' the money? Was it stolen? If so make sure to keep an eye on it...strip clubs are not the safest place to leave stuff out in the open, especially money.

The economy is down so keep that in mind, everyone has had bad nights. How did it look like the other girls were doing? Its rude to ask how much they made, but did it look like they were giving dances? If your club just sucks, try a new one. Just try to hang in there and remember a bad night doesnt reflect your looks, sex appeal etc. just more so the external factors as well as your sales ability.

also...i wouldnt be terrified of using hte word dance. I use it sometimes and it has never hurt my ability to sell.

I've been dancing for 12 years and I still have the occasional night where I go home with $50 or even less. It's just the nature of the business. In the long run, the good nights will make up for the bad ones.

2 shifts isn't nearly long enough to gauge your earning potential. Work 20 shifts, keep track of everything you make (including money you lose), and then divide the amount of money you made by 20. If that number is less than $200, then you can try another club or go back to selling shots.

Anyway, it sounds like you only had one bad night. I mean, you lost money on your first night, but you still made money.

Thanks for your responses. You guys are motivating me to want to go back to work.

No, I don't believe it was stolen. My garter didn't fit right though, and I know it fell off at least twice, and one of the times my money wasn't secured properly because I had just come off stage. I'm pretty sure it happened one of those times.

A lot of the other girls weren't making any money because they complained to me about it; one girl threw a huge fit in the DR because she hadn't made a dollar yet after several hours. However, I could tell some girls did fairly well, and I know there were guys in the CR all night. This is by far the busiest club around this area (though I know that might not mean anything, I made way more money when it was dead than busy?) I really hope it gets better, because I like the club in terms of a working environment.

I felt like the only time I could really get dances was during 2-for-1s, which was frustrating to me, since that didn't even require a hustle. They pretty much seem to sell themselves. Almost every other guy I talked to that night was a timewaster. Also, I know you shouldn't bargain down prices, but some people who wouldn't buy a LD would get a table dance. How do I get them to buy the LD?

Personally, I have no problem using the word "dance" with customers. Some times its not appropriate and other times you can get through the customers faster to find out who really does want a dance.

So my biggest question is, did you ask nearly every person who came in the door for a dance? There is something to be said for asking more often because each "No" that you hear gets you closer to a "Yes".

Do you have any ideas what the other dancers were walking out with?

No, honestly I didn't. When it was slow, yeah. I think I got more intimidated as the night went on and the place filled. There's a ton of dancers at this club. There were at least 20-something dancers on Tuesday night. Sometimes when I was trying to find a guy to approach, there was already a dancer at every table/bar, literally. I didn't really know what to do in those situations.

I'll make it a goal on Monday to ask every single person for a dance and not feel defeated after rejection.

I have no idea what the other dancers were walking out with.

Right now is definitely not a good time to be a newbie stripper. But that doesn't mean that you won't learn quickly and start making more money!!

Every club has a different hustle, remember. Just because you've been reading up on HH doesn't necessarily mean that the techniques HH focuses on will help you. Strippers work at every type of club from "wannadance" clubs to clubs where you aren't even allowed to ask for dances. And every city has its own vibe that requires a certain attention to the flow of its nightlife. Pay attention to how the money-making girls in your club are acting. Are they fast hustlers or slow hustlers? Do they make their money for the night off of one customer or 30 customers? These observations will give you clues to help your own hustle.

I'd keep your head high. Dance to music you love, and approach everyone with a fun-loving, exciting, fresh attitude (but still genuine). Since you're new, don't pressure yourself! Get a feel for the place. Obviously try and make money, but give yourself a break here in the beginning. I didn't start making serious money until after my first year of dancing!!

And also, remember that money is money. $50 is $50. It isn't THAT much, of course, but it's still money, and it's a good start! Much better than the negative money many seasoned strippers across the US are making. Give yourself a break, sweetie.

Also keep in mind your larger earning night ( not counting losing the money ... shit happens ... let that go .... just don't lose $ again ). That nights PROVES that you CAN make the money you want. If you hadn't lost that money, you would have been happy with earnings that night right? Just go back and try to have your night hit ( or exceed ) that money mark.

Thank you for your responses girls! I'm feeling better about everything. I had a pole dance class that started tonight and it was SO much fun. It made me remember why I wanted to dance in the first place. Plus, now I have all these tricks to try out tomorrow at work I'm definitely ready to go back to work now.

Just gotta remember to keep my confidence up!

Ask you manager what the lows, high, and average earners make. It will help you gauge your own earnings. The managers won't always be honest (they'll sometimes say it's higher than it is), but usually they won't be too far off from the truth either.

Thank you all so much! I didn't end up going on Monday (I didn't realize how sore pole class would make me) but went back tonight for my third shift...and made $450! I was thrilled.

$450 is great! Congrats! Be sure to track your nightly averages, so that you have a clear idea what you can make at this. Your averages will help you have a base line and then you can try to improve if you aren't quite where you want to be. Write down what you make each night and notes about your night.
