    Default Vaseline?!

So, I was talking to the new barmaid at my club, and she was telling me about how an other dancer told her about how she (the dancer) puts Vaseline allover her body which makes it look sexy in the black lights. First thing that went through my mind "So THAT's why I can never get the pole un-slippery."

Buuuuut.... Is there any basis to this? Does it actually do something? Worth a try if I can avoid the pole for a night? My skin is really pale and full of imperfections (bruises, razor burn, visible hair follicles, butt zits, all that yucky stuff...) that are amplified by the black lights, if that means anything.

I can't imagine doing this, not just because of the slippery pole factor. For one, I think I'd just be squeamish about putting something like that on my skin that doesn't allow it to breathe- I imagine I'd break out like crazy. For another, it likely leaves stains all over clothing. I'd prefer to go with a body lotion with hint of sheen to it.

Heh, I think if the ladies I know found out another dancer was covering herself with vaseline or baby oil, and then going on stage, they would jump her either in the dressing room or perhaps in the parking lot.

If you can't win. Make the fellow in front of you break the record.

    ^^ I second this yup..
My club you will be FINED and fined heavily if you are even caught with lotion on. Too many girls are slipping on stage.. It's not just the pole, all you have to do is touch the stage with one inch of your body and all of us, including yourself are screwed.

    bad bad bad idea.

I think vaseline is non-comedogenic (or however you spell that). but yeah, I would go with a lotion with sheen. or maybe a shimmer powder might work?

Um, I would also never, never wear any vaseline product before stage or pole, but they have a new (I think) cocoa butter product which does make your skin super soft. However, it also takes 2 days before you can stick to a pole again.

Even if you are worried about how your skin looks, dont do something like cover yourself in vaseline. It is dangerous for the other dancers and you should be a bit more concerned about the welfare/safety of everyone in the club over how your skin looks in the blacklight. I would find out which dancer this is who supposedly covers herself in vaseline and talk to management about it...thats just retarded.

If you are concerned about your skin you could get cover-up or something for the worst blemishes. Shimmer powder is also a good suggestion. That wont kill everyone who tries to invert themselves on the poll...

Also keep in mind that whatever you get, make sure it doesnt rub off visibly. Customers are going home to their wives after this so anything that will cover them in a scent or sparkles is a bad idea. Come to think of it, i wouldnt want a girl covered in vaseline giving me a lapdance either, unless it was an air dance.

^ Sorry, those are more reasons TO do it, lol. Schadenfreude anyone?

Come to think of it, I have seen shiny strippers in documentaries, but never seen them do pole work, and they're usually from no contact clubs in Vegas. Oooh.... Shiny stripper... No I never grew out of ADD lol. But my club is high-contact, and I've seen everyone there on the pole. But I'm trying to think... who looks shiny? O_o

Those are more reasons to do it? I sincerely hope you get your ass beat. I slammed my head on a stage, and got to work the rest of the night with a splitting headache because some cunt covered herself in baby oil before her set. When I left stage to go to the dressing room to check if I was bleeding, there she was, slathering more of it on.

She's really, incredibly lucky that it was me it happened to, because I pride myself on keeping my temper under control. Most of the girls I worked with there would have beat the hell out of her. It's bad enough some of the shit bag customers want to see us get hurt, when it's another dancer, that's just fucking wrong. If you do it, I sincerely hope that every time something bad happens to you in club, you realize that you deserved it. Karma's a bitch.

1- Learn to take a joke.

2- You've apparently never met the girls I work with. Making the pole greasy for them would be mercy next to what they do to anyone who starts out earning them.

3- Sorry that you couldn't wipe down and CHECK the pole before your set.

i really hope that was a joke. if you have ever slid off the pole onto your head...you would only wish that on the dancers who had done something equally mean to you. even if some of them suck, chances are most of hte dancers do not deserve a serious concussion.

and after a pole is covered in baby oil, wiping down the pole before the set still does not get it clean enough to use safely.

another thought to getting rid of the blemishes,....exfoliating? gets your skin smooth and stuff and doesnt kill other dancers in the process.

Yes, it was a joke. Though I like the idea of leaving evidence on custies with wives. Glitter, perfume, ass shaped oil stains in the genital region.

And apparently no one noticed that I mentioned avoiding the pole if I were gonna try this...

Exfoliating only irritates my skin. But that's not the point of this thread (I posted one for that already); I was asking if there was any validity to using vaseline, even though it feels gross and smells like shit.

I wouldn't do this because even if you avoided the pole you'd still get it on the floor, which could be dangerous if a dancer has shoes that are slippery.

I would just avoid it and if you are trying to cover stuff up try DermaBlend.

You CAN'T wipe baby oil off a pole. That entire stage was a nightmare for the rest of the night. But you don't give a shit, as long as you get your money.

FYI, if all the girls working in your club are shitbags who deserve this, then guess what? So are you.

leaving evidence on custies is a bad idea in the long run...it will hurt your money. If a customer gets caught they are less likely to come back. That and customers who are smart about it or who have got caught before will take care to avoid the girls who are extremely sparkly or have a lot of perfume on.

For the love of fuckin god, I was asking a question, based on something an other dancer is supposedly doing, and all you can think to do is attack me for making a joke because you weren't careful. Maybe YOU deserved what happened to you.

Please use the vaseline, I really want to see you come back here whining about how every girl in your club stomped the living shit out of you.

Your joke isn't funny. You think it's funny to see dancers get hurt, I hope you think it's funny when eventually something bad happens to you. I'm sure you'll deserve it.

Oh, and I didn't attack you until you decided that hurting the people you work with was a good reason to do something. Grow up. Many women rely on this income to take care of themselves and their families. You joking about doing something to hide your butt zits, and not giving a shit about putting them in danger is unacceptable. A concussion or broken limb can put one of us out of work for quite some time. You wouldn't think it was so cute if it happened to you.

Perhaps you should figure out what it is about your diet or beauty regime that's made your skin so god awful disgusting.

We shouldn't have to be careful at the club!

The stage is dangerous enough in 7 or 8 inch heels.. Are you going to say we shouldn't be wearing platform shoes now?

I fully understood that you meant it as a joke, but the way you came back at Marvel Girl saying that she should wipe the pole before her set is ludicrous! There is enough to worry about than to have to stress every time you go on stage.

At my club you only get one song on each stage and you can't spend the entire time trying to wipe of a substance that clearly isn't going to to be wiped off, plus , as I mention earlier, the stage also suffers from misuse of these lubricants.

I think everyone warning you not to do it should be enough to make you realize that you shouldn't be doing it, I am sure you don't like trying to wipe down a pole constantly, so why add to it?

And, you did ask what eveyone thought, they gave you their response, WE DON"T LIKE IT.

I have fallen many times, even after the bouncers came and mopped the stage. The shit doesn't come off that easy! Careful or not, someone gets hurt and that is not cool.

I noticed, it's just that it doesn't matter whether or not you planned to go near the pole. Being covered in vaseline means that you leave vaseline anywhere you touch the stage. Vaseline doesn't wash off in water, which means that it would still be all over your hands as well. So pretty much any girl that goes up runs the risk of falling and being injured possibly seriously bc of the vaseline, including you. It's really really not a good idea. And it certainly isn't very courteous to your fellow dancers. Not to mention, that I think you'd have to have a very, very thick layer of vaseline on to have it make any difference at all under the lights and then the rest of the night you'll be walking around looking like goo lady. I can't imagine this would help custies want dances from you.

Being careful isn't just about wiping down the pole, but making sure it's safe too. If you start off with an inverted trick, without seeing if it's suitable, then I'm sorry that your dance abilities are so bad that you need to compensate by showing off a pole trick. Maybe you should check what's in your diet that deteriorates your brain and makes your personality so god awful.

And again, you seem not to notice someone IS doing it at my job, and using the pole. I've never had a problem with the stage. But I'm sure I know who it is, and she's one of the main bitches who does the shit I describe to everyone else. She can't even follow house rules or show respect for anyone of the staff there, and should be fired (only she's kissing the owner's ass). She's got no family to support, just herself and her drug habits, so who cares if a joke is made at her expense? Of course she's also usually drunk off her ass anyway, so I can just wait and she'll crack her skull open on her own. And yes, she does a lot of pole work with that shit all over her. At least I'm considerate enough to not use the pole if for some reason I did try this.
MG... just get a life instead of yelling at people over an internet message board because you're bitter about someone else's fuck up. You're probably the kind of cunt who screams over sexist or dead baby jokes.

This thread was based on curiosity. The reason I mentioned my skin is because I know some things don't work for everyone or everything. I asked once, and people ignored the conditions and answered like they didn't even read it.
"Is there any basis to this? Does it actually do something? Worth a try if I can avoid the pole for a night?" <--- what I said.
No one even answers if it WORKS. No, saying it works won't make me do it. Might as well endorse DARE or abstinence only education if that's what you think. I know lotion works but I don't use that when I'm working.
I'm still curious about it. I'm not excited about covering myself in that stuff (figured "worth a try" implied that). I guess curiosity really did kill the cat when everyone attacked it for asking a question.

Now, for those of you who are civilized... What are you guys using to clean the poles? We use an alcohol based spray. Sometimes it's windex, but usually something the manager mixes up (that works a lot better). If you're just using water... yeeeah, that won't even take care of natural oils that any healthy dancer would give off. I eventually am able to get the pole clean when I practice after hours, and enough during my set to use it though it's still a bit slippery, and I wouldn't try anything inverted or hands free. Though I have seen girls go upside down w/out falling during the same shifts.

wow. drama. don't go starting fights and being a bitch.

vaseline doesn't look good (enough) onstage to be worth the trouble to yourself and others. it feels gross. i've used that vaseline cocoa gel stuff. it looks a little shiny and smells nice. but i don't touch the pole or the floor. and i've stopped doing even that, because there'd be enough on my hands, despite washing them before stage, that i'd feel nervous about hurting other girls. because i'm not that kind of person.

vaseline is a really nice moisturizer though. if you don't mind sleeping in socks and pj bottoms, slather it all over any area you'll cover with clothes before you go to bed. otherwise it'll make your sheets gross, and like i said it feels gross if two vaselined areas touch. eww.

You know, you weren't attacked until you started literally being a bitch, I am sure you can see where that started in this thread.

Everyone answered the question as if they were the girl going after you on stage.. Makes sense, saying that their idiots for trying to work a stage when some other moron used vaseline all over themselves seems a little redundant.

How are you going to avoid the stage for one night? Just not go up? Some clubs allow this, but I have never worked at one that didn't charge an arm and a leg for this. And in close quarters it will end up on someone else too.

We couldn't care less if it helps your skin, if you are going to wear it in the club. I think that was made very clear. Hell, some girls were even warning you that others might potentially hurt you.
Obviously not everyone who answered knows if it would be beneficial for your skin. Why not try checking another site if you are so gung ho about finding out what vaseline can do for bad skin.

Honestly if your skin is that bad that you need to resort to vaseline to hide the blemishes, maybe [B]you[B] are the one that shouldn't be on stage.

It started when I made a joke. I thought I made it clear in my first post that I actually care not to make it dangerous for other dancers (as horrible as most of them are). Next thing I know I get you high school bitches wishing I get my ass beat [which would be funny because I don't drink on the job, while they're usually trashed] and insulting my appearance. But I apparently can't even make a joke about some bitch who DOES hurt other girls, intentionally and unintentionally.
And hey, dee-dee-dee: the pole is not the entire stage. Find me a club that fines you for not using the pole.

I'm just asking a simple question, and made one fucking joke and I got 2 bitter bitches turning this into a flame war. I think I'm entitled to defend myself in my own thread. You can just stfu and go on to some other thread if I offended you with something that simple.

SSS, justifymylove, and meleania- Thanks for actually answering my question (or coming close), and actually being helpful. Yeah, I don't think I would put that stuff anywhere if I had to be awake for it, even if it were 0 contact non-pole dancing.
I still like to know what it actually does for other dancers to wear it in the club, and if it really does have something to do with the lighting, or if they just think being greasy is sexy.
