    Default Diabetic Dancing? *pictures*

I've been diabetic since I was 11... type 1, on insulin for the rest of my life. Ive been applying at the clubs to be a dancer and no one has called me back yet. I've hidden my pump from everyone while I was applying.

this is what an insulin pump looks like:

and this is me, you can see my pump on my belt:

Do you think that they won't let me dance once they see this? do you think custies will be turned off by this? I've already asked my doctor and he said as long as I'm carefully checking my blood sugar I am fine to dance, since its working and exercise all in one. I've worn dresses before and I have really tight garters to keep my pump on my thigh and I could also wear it on my bottoms... dunno.

    just looking for some input

(p.s- feel free to ask me any questions about diabetes and my pump either here or in pm, Im not shy about anything and I know sometimes people are curious)

The only way it would work, IMO, is if you wore something like a halter dress, and just took it halfway off, so just the top part of your body is showing, not your midsection. I've done this many times. You definitely don't want management or customers to see your insulin pump. Management may consider you a liability and thus unable to work, and customers, well I have no idea.

You can say that again.. not just on here but men in general. Guys are so damn lame, the only way they can halfway make up for it is by opening their wallets.

I could see why management may be wary of hiring you when you are wearing one. I have a few thoughts on this.

Is there any way you could get the cords shortened and hidden closer to where they go in? Second, could you hide the actual large plastic part with something a little more "pretty".

Depends on where you work. I've worked with a girl who used a pump. She didnt have the pump on her when on stage, but you could clearly see the site.

Can you take the pump off while on stage?

BE CAREFUL with that thing. My boyfriend's a type 1, and he just got the pump recently after using those insulin pens since he was 10. That cord catches on a LOT of things, and something as simple as fishnet can catch on a guy's shirt buttons or belt buckles when you're dancing. And I know it's pretty painful when that cord gets yanked. Plus, any drunk guys who decide to be assholes might get touchy with it. I imagine there's got to be a way to manage it, but to be honest, it will be very, very tough.

I noticed you said you are looking for jobs in Detroit on another post. I could see where this would concern management plus there has been an influx of new dancers in this area because the economy is so bad and so many are without jobs at the moment.

I think you should really look at a smaller type club and get a feel for concealing the pump and get an idea of customer reaction, etc. It was said before and I agree I could easily see some rude, drunk guy, pulling and tugging on it. Would this get in the way of dancing? I mean physically could you pull it out using the pole?

Also, I'm not sure how you have to dress to conceal the pump, but are you glamming up when you go to fill out apps?

If you need any help or advice or anything like that feel free to PM me. I live in the metro detroit area.

You can always try to do Amateur Night and see how it goes. Get a feel for things. I take it you haven't danced before? Anyway if you ever need anything I am a PM away.

Thank you everyone! I really like the waist cincher idea, that would really work. I could also disconnect while on stage, ill just have hide it and lock it away because the last thing I need is for it to get stolen.
