Default OMFG? If you do your own taxes, how many forms did you have to fill out?

    I'm sitting pretty with:
    _ 1040
    _ 2 Schedule Cs
_ 1 letter of explanation (why the club only reported me for 50 a night + funny money) and also why the other club didn't give me a 1099
    _ 1040 SE
    _ 3903
    _ 1040 - V
    _ 2 W-2s

    and then my state is:
    _ 500
    _ 575 - V
    _ 2 W2s

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure that there isn't some hidden form that I should file for the state.

If you have mortgages and so on, I'm sure you'll beat me, but I seriously think that the whole "paperwork reduction policy" is BULLSHIT.

    None. Turbotax.

Agreed about Turbotax selecting and printing all of the necessary forms.

Turbotax also reduces the possibility of mathematical errors.

It does a lot of the drudgery of the forms. It greatly separates you from the tax laws if you just do the interviews and fill in numbers as directed. Which may be very good if you have no patience with following a huge nmber of directions. And how many of us have that much patience?

But it leaves me with the uneasy feeling that somohow I could have missed something very important and maybe done some things that I wouldn't if I actually read the tax documents (Publ 37) for this year.

The tax laws are incredibly more complex than they should be, and the IRS instructions are written for, let's face it, tax professionals, not us taxpayers. Further many parts of the tax law I have to deal with are just incredibly out-of-date and really at odds with many social and government incentives. To me the math is the easy part. Just think of the words they use that you have no idea about.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Hire a tax pro. It is THE BEST money I spend in the entire year.

I usually do turbotax. This year tho, since I wasn't sure how to file since I started dancing, I actually paid someone, and tbh, this year may have been the easiest yet. Well worth the money.

I always hire an accountant. It is so worth it! This year she handed me a notebook of forms that was easily 3/4 of an inch thick. Our system of taxation is so crazily complicated it really makes me wonder how the government manages to keep everything straight?

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Actually they don't. Ask them a question and they will give you an answer, say it may not actually be right, and then say you're on your own. Part of it is sloppy questions and lack of good communication, but part of it is that it's all so complicated that only their computers can be relied on to figure out your taxes. Unless you're willing to try to fight for what you think is right.

Oh, yes. It's far better to seem like you know what you're doing than to act or plead ignorant, especially come audit time. <ulllp>
