    Default Generic newb introduction.

Hi, I've been lurking for a bit and decided to come out of the cracks.

I went in and applied today at a club 2.5 hours away from my home, supposed to call the person I talked to today on Monday and work out 3 days I can work in a row. I'll be staying at a hotel two nights out of the week, and I'm excited about telling my current job that my schedule will have to be changed and getting started. I have a couple of questions though:

Does anybody else travel so far from their residency to work? I'm wondering how the hotel will work out, because don't most hotels need you out by around 11? Would I need to actually pay for 3 nights?

And even though this is not dancer related, I'm worried about leaving my kitties alone for so long. Is it a bad idea to just leave out lots and lots of food/water and assume they'll be alright? Should I set up a webcam to keep an eye on them? lol...

I think that's about it. Other than that, hi, everybody!

    Welcome to the forum!

I would suggest that you find a family member or friend that can check in on your kitties.

Lots of dancers travel for work and even stay in hotels. With the economy being so bad though many have stopped doing that. You will need to be the one to decide if it is cost effective for you.

If the hotel wants you out by 11 either lock you luggage in the trunk of the car or check it at the front desk until you leave.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

most hotels will allow you to leave your luggage at the front desk, and some will even allow a late check out, depending on how booked the hotel is.

i just a job at a club 15m from my home, but before that I worked at a club 4 hours away. (used to live there, long story) it was hard, but it made me motivated to work harder, because i had driven all that way...

Hmm...after thinking about it some, I think that I might just make the drive every night. I have a really efficient car, and it seems silly to spend 40 dollars or more on a room when it only costs 20 dollars to drive both ways.

Thanks for the advice thus far.

^^I wouldn't suggest you drive both ways...especially since you are working nights back to back. You are going to be very exhausted after working an 8 hour shift. I don't think its even safe to work 8 hours till 2 or 3 in the morning....and then get on a highway for 2 1/2 hours. The extra 20 dollars is worth it for the extra sleep and peace of mind.

    btw, welcome

Yeah, you might get really sick of making that drive.

Are you thinking about moving to the city where the club is at once you see if you like the job?

That's probably what I would do.

Yeah, I wouldn't get very much sleep if I drove every night and back...and you're right, it probably is dangerous. I'll try staying in a hotel and seeing how it goes. I don't plan on moving, I've got a rent-free situation that really is hard to beat, plus I'm going to school. If I didn't live in my hometown I'd think about stripping locally, but oh well.

I've got an ex roommate who will be able to visit my kittens, especially since she's close by and emotionally invested in them anyway.

hey, i'm about to be in a similar situation, and i was going mad trying to come up with a way to make it work. let me know how the hotel thing works out for you! i am moving (husband is military) to a small town next month and the nearest club is 2 hours away, and i was trying to figure out while he's deployed this fall if it would be worth it to stay in a hotel 3 nights a week. i too have 2 cats that would be missing me, but there are no jobs to be found in this crappy little town they're sticking us in, so i think this is my only option to make money.

good luck with everything, and do let me know how it goes!!
