Lightbulb My new pole!/Dance tips & questions

Ok, so a few weeks ago I received my pole for home. I LOVE it, and I think I mentioned in another thread about poles that I got mine from Flirtygirlfitness.com ...I totally did, after researching the crap out of what to buy and many laughs with my significant other about the 5 workout videos (and disgusting pink feather boa) included with this Pole...'Booty Beat', anyone??

Hahaha~ So- I have it permantly installed in my house. It personally helps me practice reutiens as far as feeling the stage atmosphere. BUT! While i'm a pretty good dancer...I can't seem to SLOOOOW things down. I mean, I can/do...but I really like dancing to upbeat music...and midway through songs I catch myself speeding my movements up more than i'd like. I new If I translated that onto the stage at work it'd feel weird because 4mins of song is like forever. How do you ladies remember to slow down your moves?

Also- Have any of you checked out The Stripper Method podcasts??!! They are free on itunes ..I usually watch them when I'm bored at my day job or when i'm working out...I think they're pretty cool/interesting, especially for newbies.

Ps: I gave in and tried the ab/butt workout video...I'm sooooooo sore, an barely move, LOL. -Apparently this kicked my ass more than my regular workouts at the gym! Hmm..I have the say the infomercials for this pole & products are cheesy as hell, but it works!

When I was first starting, I'd force myself to dance to slower music. Then, after working for awhile, I'd dance to faster music, but I'd focus more on being sexy/sensual and less on dancing to the music.

Dancing slowly is all about moving to every other beat in the song. You have to focus on your audience: they don't want to see a girl go clubbing, they want to see her move sensually so they can focus on her body. If you always have your audience in the back of your mind (or hopefully the forefront), you shouldn't have a problem slowing it down.

If you're dancing on your own in your house, then try to picture your audience. You need to make eye contact with them and draw their gaze to different parts of your body.

Have a coworker's bf yell at you to slow down, even when you already think you're slow. That helped me

Hmmm... Not so much about counting every other beat or going halftime, but what you count as a beat in your dancing. For example, if you do a hip circle, instead of have a full or half circle be one beat, each quarter circle is a beat. 1 2 3 4 right front left back. At least that's how I think about it. I'm not musically inclined, so counting every other beat would take up too much of my concentration and throw me off.
Lead me not into temptation. I can find it myself.

oh i got this book The S Factor here is the link http://www.amazon.com/Factor-Strip-W...0262730&sr=1-5 when i first started dancing. It helped me a ton with my floor work. It has pictures of all the moves (step by step) floor work and pole work. She has everything labeled as beginner and advanced so you know where to start. Also there are very good explanations of everything. She even has a portion of the book dedicated to what you should expect at the club, during the audition, what you should wear, and things to have in your work bag + more. Really good book.

Word. There are parts I think arnt bad, but Most of it is also too catty for me...and they are very tame in my opinion as far as tips and advice they give to their viewers. I wish they'd go into more about their work in clubs and club related material.

I just got this book at can't find that section Other than the intro, it all seems to be geared at women dancing for themselves/their SO. But some REALLY good dance advice. I still feel it the workout

EXACTLY! Try EXTREME examples of this...

    Janet Jackson- Anytime, Anyplace
    Jon Mayer- Gravity

These songs will make you literally feel like your in slow motion. When you move this slow- you have to use your muscles instead of momentum to move your body. This is truly how people get a workout from stripping and why it has become so popular in the fitness world. It should be called: Feel sexy in slow motion for fitness!

Anyone have any songs to add^^? I could only come up with those 2 off the top of my head.

Your best bet for this type of training is to go to www.StripandGrowRich.com

Do you really think you will get stripper knowledge from a woman who hates strippers? Seriously, research the sources of the people you are giving your $ to! Sheila Kelly was never an exotic dancer nor does she like them. She refuses to teach exotic dancers even if they come with cash in hand because she doesn't want to be associated with them!

Real exotic dancers who have REAL stripper products are Avalon(^website above), myself (website below), Shawn (urbanfertilitydancer.com), and a few others that I am forgetting! Can anyone help add to this list?

    Is it stable?

I saw the pole and workout vids you were talking about. The pole was ridiculously inexpensive and didn't look like it was meant for weight-bearing tricks...Similar to the "Peekaboo pole dancing kit," only this one looked a little sturdier...

Have you had any trouble with it yet, like say on inverts and such?

I got an X-pole (expensive but worth it as it's professional grade) and put it up in my house and learned my tricks from youtube.

^ I lurvs my X-Pole. It's definitely slippery though. You earn your pole creds on an X-Pole. I like it because it makes tricks at work seem easy by comparison. But people looking for a sticky pole should consider the titanium gold edition.

    Lucky!

I want an X-pole so badly, but I don't nearly have enough money.

Plus I have to wait until my housing situation is a little more permanent.

Videotape yourself. Once you see how silly you look dancing fast you'll slow down. When I started dancing I was one of those super fast dancers... now I dance slowly to EVERYTHING and get lots of compliments on my dancing too - which Ive never understood because all I do is walk around all slow and stuff. I dont really dance. Go figure lol

I'm a x-pole distributor! I teach and dance on one and I'm so in love with it. And you don't have to wait until your home is more permanent. My pole is removable and as long as you have/get a stud finder to place it correctly, it's just as dependable as a perma-pole. I take it down and set it up for girly parties all the time and never had an incident.

But you're right about the chrome being slippery. I learned on my x-pole, loved it, then went to a sc and had a girl I taught pull me up on stage. Not only was the pole not held in place at the top, but it was brass. So I about pissed myself when I started swaying all over the place, and I stuck to the pole something awful. But chrome is the way to go because it's harder. That's why athletes train in high altitudes. If you can run and breath in difficult circumstances, the same will be easy in normal places.

You have to shell out $300 plus $50 shipping on the xpole website, but with my studio discount I can get one delivered to your address for a flat $300.

Anyone else interested, let me know!

WD - look at platinum stages multi-piece super pole maybe. They say they fit up to 12 ft ceilings, maybe you could add an extra extension piece? Or if you have lots of cash to burn you could just buy a stage (pole doesn't attach to the ceiling at all).

I knew that they were removable, but I'm not sure about the ceiling height of my future/soon to be appartment...So that's what I meant about a more permanent living situation...I don't want to have to buy the pole extender pieces, move and then not need them...

Thanks for posting. I'm actually quite interested. I may wind up buying from you once I get the money. =)

I have that, and it is fucking amazing.

As for slowing down, I'd say listen to different music and dance to stuff that makes you feel relaxed, not jumpy and energetic. I'm a very high-energy dancer, but there are some songs that make me dance in a way that is slow but hints at control and potential energy (like a loaded spring).
