    Default LICE! Help!

So, my crazy psycho roommate got lice, and didn't tell me, and continued to use my brushes/irons/etc.

Well, i noticed little white clumps around my hairline, that just wouldn't go away no matter how much I combed and used anti-dandruff crap.

So, I realize that I probably have nits at the least, and lice at the worst.

I ran out and got the RID kit. I applied the shampoo as directed, then the combing gel and combed it as best I could.

Anything I have come into the contact I have soaked in boiling water. Anything I couldn't wash I bundled into plastic bags.

I washed in hot water (twice) and ran the dryer on its hottest heat setting, all of my bed linens, but I'm paranoid, so I'm wrapping my head in saran wrap.

24 hours later, I still see some white clumps around the hairline, and no matter ho wmuch I comb with the nit comb, I just cant seem to get rid of them.

Will these eggs hatch, and I'll have to start all over again?

Everything I read online says something different. Some say no, one treatment is plenty, others say multiple are necessary, and some say that I'll never get rid of them unless I pick out every eggs. I have long and thick hair, I don't think I'll ever manage to get them all.

    Help!

    How do I end this?!

I am so freakin grossed out.

You actually need to pick them out. The eggs should not be in your hair, just your scalp. They should be dead tho. I don't fully remember though, its been about 20yrs since I had to deal with any of that.

BLEACH your bed linens. BLEACH your towels and hairbrushes..

ANYTHING your head has come into contact with, car seat head rests, the sofa arms spray it with that RIDX SPRAY. Let the sunlight in, that helps.

Use the little comb that comes with the RID kit. That will get the eggs out and keep washing your head.

And personally I'd beat the crap out of your roomie. Gawd.

I had them on vacation in elementary school. I discovered them on my own and was scared to tell my mom, but swimming in a chlorinated pool every day for a week seemed to have done the trick...lol

I had lice the summer before ninth grade- I kept asking my mom to check my head but she swore nothing was there. I only found out because one came off when I was washing my face. I had very long hair, and it took forever (at least three hours) for me to comb through it all the first time. I cried the whole time, lol. I think whether or not one treatment is enough depends on how bad you have them, but I'm paranoid and did it several times just to make sure. Also got some sort of stuff to put in the laundry that's supposed to kill them as well. I checked my hair repeatedly for weeks after, but everything worked pretty well for me. The first combing was the worst.

Having them made me feel gross, I'd be pissed at your roomie!

I had lice a few times as a kid. You need to comb out all of the eggs. It takes a while and is best performed by somebody else. Good luck! Sucks

I found rubbing alcohol to be the best thing to do after the RID kit. It dries out the eggs thus killing them to immediately. It also made it a little easier to see the eggs so that I could comb them out because they had dried out (or that may have been just because I have uber light hair). You'll just have to moisturize the hell out of your hair afterward if you do this.

Just a couple months ago my daughter went to a sleepover and came home with lice which quickly spread through the house (crazy how contagious those nasty things are), even I got it!
I found the Nix product to not work- lice are becoming resistent to the pesticide. LiceMD was great! It really like suffocated them or something, cause when I combed them out, they were DEAD, unlike with the Nix as I was combing them out, some were still kicking.
It's really hard to comb out ALL the nits- you really need to use your fingernails to sorta scrape them off the hair shaft. Some salons will do it- not sure where you're located but it wouldn't hurt to call around- I know it may seem embarrassing to ask, but its so much easier to have someone else do it. Hell, make your roommate do it!
As for your clothes and stuff- it's good to wash everything but you dont have to go crazy. They are a human parasite that NEED the blood from your scalp to survive. If they are off the scalp, they die in 24-72 hours. A nit can hatch in around 10 days, but most wont survive without the heat from your head. So could a nit fall off your head, land on the couch, then 2 weeks later hatch and reinfest you? Extremely rare.
I know its frustrating, trust me- having just gone through it- and having 3 daughters to treat, ugh, what a pain in the ass- but there is a light at the end of the tunnel- you'll get rid of them!

id kick your roommate out after she got all of it out of my hair lol, but mines super super long so it would really be a bitch, i had it once when i was little, my hair was past my butt and my mom didnt want to cut it, her wrist still hurts from all the combing she had to do. you can put all your stuff that can that could hold the eggs/lice into a plastic bag and just leave it in there for , uh dont remember how long. might be better than washing over and over though

There is also an electric lice comb that zaps them. I got it last year when my stepsons got lice. It is also reusable which is great since it takes a couple of weeks to completely annilate the little creepies.

When I was little my mum used the electric comb and within a week they were gone. I know if I ever got them again its what I would use along with the shampoo, even though it smells AWFUL.

The eggs are what don't like to take in the chemicals so much; they're resilient little fuckers. Wash your hair with hot and cold water. Temperature shock! And use a hairdryer to fry the shit outta those eggs. They're as good as dead. Do an other treatment 2 weeks later (w/ chemical shit).

Garlic! And someone mentioned tea tree oil. Garlic won't make em go away, but less likely to come back.

Dealing with lice as a poor college student pre-dancing= using vodka, hot+cold showers, and a nit comb. Not the best idea but it worked.
Lead me not into temptation. I can find it myself.
