Mind Blowing She left her kids on the street!

This article made me sad. I understand getting angry, but this lady went too far.

Wow. Maybe they were more endangered by staying in the car.

My mother had a parenting book in the 1980's called "Tough Love" and recommended that parents do exactly what that lady did. It is hard to tell how equiped the kids were to handle being left 3 miles from home at that age. When I was 10 I would have been fine walking home 3 miles, but not all kids are okay with that.

I moved out when I was 13, so I may have been the exception. I agree that the kids may have been safer left at a busy retail district than being left with their mother.

I'm just considering all the family murder/suicides that have been happening lately, and maybe leaving the kids in a shopping center, isn't such a bad alternative.

Yeah, that used to be a common parenting technique, although you weren't supposed to actually leave them, you were supposed to drive around the corner and wait a couple of minutes because the purpose was to scare them.

If she was angry enough to hurt them, then this is better than what could have happened.

A better way to handle that would be to stop the car/pull into a parking lot, get out and get the kids out, and make them sit with on the ground on opposite sides of the car for 10 minutes, while sitting on their hands, and then when you get home, confine them to their rooms for the rest of the day.

My mother never did threaten my sister and I with getting tossed out of the car, but she did tell us if we didn't behave she would run away from home and never come back. After awhile we sort of wished she would. My father was the stable one in our household.

Funny thing is my sister and I to this day have never had a fight or a secret... we used to collaborate on our schemes!

Yes, I'm sure yelling at your kids drill sergeant style in a public place while forcing them to sit on their hands in an execution style pose wouldn't get a parent in any trouble.

I was also thinking that maybe the mother really meant to return to where her kids were dropped off, but in some busy areas, it can take up to half an hour just to get around the block during rush hour. Especially in a busy shopping district.

I'm sure it has everything to do with my background, but this really pisses me off. I hope she gets in huge trouble. What a traumatic thing for that ten year old to go through. You're supposed to be able to trust your parents to care for you. abandoning your kids on the street is not safe. If she thinks this is ok, she's probably neglectful in other ways as well.

Predators have a sixth sense for this kind of thing. What if the wrong person had noticed her situation and offered her a ride instead of the "good samaritan" than helped her?
I know someone who lost her 13 year old god daughter when she sent her to walk to the store by herself late at night. She never came back and they found her dead body in the woods a couple days later.

Who said anything about yelling or sitting execution style? Sitting on the ground on your hands on opposite sides of the car is uncomfortable and it also separates the siblings and calms them down. Then you follow up with the room banishment at home. Do it calmly and in a controlled fashion.

IA. She would have driven back to get the girl. She knows her kids well enough to know whether she could have taken this that far or not.

^^^How do you know that? Maybe she's just a shitty parent. The world has no shortage of them, you know.

I'm amazed at how tolerant people are about this.

If her choices are hitting her kids or abandoning her kids, then she's not fit to be a mother.

Someone please give this guy two screaming teenagers. I'd love to see you try and make this happen. For 10 minutes? Sitting on their hands? lol. Oh only if life was so easy...

We'll be here for you when she enters middle school. The middle school years make the terrible twos look like a cake walk. It is an easier thing to deal with a rabid dog than a 12 y.o. middle school girl experiencing her first crush, her first period and her first bought of social ostrization. Oh, and it'll be all your fault, just so you aren't surprised by these emotionally tumultuous times.

Oh wow, my lil sis went through the same thing, she was a total bitch. My mom kinda brought that on by spoiling the living shit outta her, but yeah she's still going through that phase, she's 13 now, but I don't see her acting in a normal fashion for years to come. GOOD LUCK, with that!!

Most people are shitty parents. Some admit they know nothing and try to learn to do better, some just ignorantly go forward reveling in their shitty-ness.

The fact that this article is gone from the internet and a search on google came up with nothing, tells me that it was probably blown out of proportion. Or maybe the judge spent a couple of hours with the girls and sided with the mother's decision.

What would YOU have done in that situation? I've said what I'd do...

Not to sound sexist, but this is also where fathers and mothers differ...fathers often have an easier time meting out punishment...

I will now sit back and wait to be roasted for that. Where's Jenny?

I know that can generally be the case, but in my house it was totally opposite! My father has never raised his voice to me, never grabbed me, spanked me, nothing. My sister and I totally respected him and listened to him better than my mother. We never took issue with obeying him.

My mother however is a shrew, who liked to slap us in the mouth and spank us.. No wonder we didn't listen to her.

I always say if it hadn't have been for my dad, my sister and I would be seriously fucked up. You don't have to use physical punishment or yelling to get our kids to listen to you.
