1. Is it possible to buy your own jewelry and just pay for the piercing itself?
2. Can I REALLY not wear a dangle piercing right off the bat?

^ Well technically you may as well pay for whatever they give you, because you'll have to buy something anyway. And usually they'll give you a super hypoallergenic piece that is sure to irritate the piercing the least.
Also, I wouldn't wear something dangly. It could catch on something and cause an infection. Plus, dangly things often care less about the quality of the material they're made out of, and more about the mere appearance of the piercing. Which is cool, but only after you're healed.
I have my bellybutton and nape done, and I've heard it recommended that you take B vitamins while you're healing to speed up the process. I was already taking a lot of B vitamins when I got mine done, and I've never had any problems with either piercing (despite the fact that the nape has an enormously high rejection rate).
Also, take a few ibuprofen an hour or so before you go and get it done. It'll help you with pain and whatnot (though I hardly even felt my bellybutton or nape piercings)...

The piercer, if s/he is any good, will not let you bring your own jewelry to be pierced with bc they will not consider it to be sterile.
In terms of jewelry you can wear, each piercer is different. Some prefer to pierce with a barbell, some prefer to pierce with a ring. There is a debate as to which heals faster. Some say the barbell bc there is less surface area that comes into contact with germs thus allowing the wound to heal better, and some say the ring bc it can spin and all sides can be cleaned. Regardless, whatever you're pierced with you will not be allowed to change the jewelry for 6 wks. so for that time you will have the standard ring or barbell, after you can wear whatever you want. You still might want to be careful with the dangle jewelry bc it can get caught on things and the last thing you want is to rip your new piercing.

Like I said, if the piercer is any good they will insist on their jewelry for several reasons. There are requirements to be met in terms of what the jewelry is made of as well as the sterilization of the environment.

I second JayATee. Some piercers however will let you pick your belly ring from there selection and it is sterile and up to code. I have had my titanium one with a rhinetone on the top and bottom. It is also internally threaded, which I heard is better for your piercing because they do not tear it up. I have honestly not found a ring that fit my belly better then the one they pierced it with.
Yep, these ladies covered pretty much everything I can think of.
One question though: do any of you have the bottom half of your belly button pierced? I had mine done for a few months, but it ended up getting horribly irritated from getting bumped all the time (I guess my belly sticks out a lil, lol). I reeeally wanna get it done now that my stomach isn't as pudgy, do you have any tricks to keep it from getting bumped?

I wanted to get it done, but at the time they said I didn't have enough of a shelf. I was super skinny then though from swimming. I think you could probally google it or talk to your piercer. When I go in a couple weeks I will let you know what they say.
thanks, everyone!

Make sure the piercer is gauntlet certified. I would not let anyone else touch me.
