google wont return anything useful... when i was considering working at a new club i googled the hell out of this with no success. I finally concluded that if i ever work at a nude club i will take extra care to keep my vag from the pole.

one girl at my old club was certain she caught gonorrea thru lap dancing nude. i guess she was grinding on the guy and felt a wet spot, he said it was precum and a bit later she was diagnosed with gonnorrea. she said she hadnt had sex for months before that. I am not sure how accurate this story was, but i guess if a guy came and it seeped thru his pants and hse was grinding her vag on it it is possible.

Im gonna say it probably is possible to get stds from the pole. In lesbian sex it is not reccomended to share dildos unless other partner is tested etc. cuz stuff can be passed on. I have no idea if windex would kill herpes and other such stuff. If you keep the lady bits away from it you should be fine though.

Is it possible? Yes, but not very probable.

The HPV2 virus needs the right environment to survive, and does not last long outside the body.

Basically to have a significant chance of catching it, somone with open sores would have to leave a signficant amount of the virus on the pole, and then you would have to rub the pole agressively with your genetiles, anus or open sore.

Of course nothing is certain, so if you have a question make an appointment with your doctor and find out for sure.

Agreed. It's sorta like catching stuff from a toilet seat. Unlikely, but not impossible.

A lot of people who have herpes live symptom free for years. If in fact you do have it, you could have had it for a long period of time, and just not noticed/had symptoms. When was your last check?

this wouldn't really matter too much. the herpes virus can remain dormant for many years....so many people have it for long periods of time without even knowing it. sadly, it is one of the few STDs that can be transmitted WITH the use of protection because outbreaks can happen on areas of the skin not covered by condoms. the virus can also be spread when the infected partner isn't having an outbreak. so quite often people become infected while using protection, and don't even know it till waaaaay later. but yes....GO SEE A DOC. there is treatment out there, i don't remember what the medication is called, but they used to have a ton of herpes commercials on tv.

    good luck. *crosses fingers*

lol i know, right?? actually there are a few things that can be spread WITH protection. like crabs! but you can get rid of those...you should read up on common STDs and how they are spread. search for pictures too. makes you look at casual sex a lot differently! ugg...scary

lots of information...did you see this?

"Results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection. Over the past decade, the percent of Americans with genital herpes infection in the U.S. has decreased.
Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of eight). This may be due to male-to-female transmission being more likely than female-to-male transmission."

that's crazy...1 out of 4 women are infected...and 1 out of 8 men are. that's a LOT!! but i believe it. because like it says, most people don't know because they don't show sypmtoms.

Exactly... one reason I look at guys like they have just grown two heads when they ask me for extras at work.

^ ^ ^ You would think they would know, right? Morons!

I was paranoid about this exact same thing when I worked in San Fran at the clinic while dancing. I know for a fact that a few of the girls I danced with had different stuff, including herpes. Honestly, just clean the pole EVERY time you use it and don't sit or grind on customers laps nude and you'll be fine. The chances of catching something through non-sexual contact is extremely small, but not impossible.

    http://www.herpes.org/faqs/topten.shtml#7

As for pre-cum, when I worked at the clinic one of the things we were supposed to let clients know is that pre-cum can actually carry a higher infection rate than the cum itself - although both are infectious. So yes, you can catch STDs from pre-cum.

Keep yourself clean, and wash your hands regularly, and try not to itch or scratch your genitals, open woulds, or eyes when you aren't clean. I have a friend who contracted herpes. He had a very public job that involved touching people - shaking hands and such. He must have come in contact with someone that hadn't washed, got the virus on his hands and scratched at his eye. Now he has herpes in his eyes and has to take medication every day. So keep yourself clean and be aware!
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

somebody sounds a little judgmental. first off, why would someone be a moron because they weren't AWARE that they were infected. if you did your research, or even read my above post, you would know that many people werent aware they had it because it can remain dormant in your system for years...meaning there are no symptoms. and doctors don't usually do a herpes screening during regular STD checks unless it's requested.

number two, i HIGHLY doubt your friend got herpes of the eye from touching people then touching his eye. it's just not spread that way. if it were that easy, we'd all be running around with herpes of the eye. the fact that he had a "fery public job that involved touching people" doesn't make any difference. i have a job that involves touching people as well. all the germs that are spread during regular activities is crazy in itself...you're not going to contract the disease from touching someone's arm or leg, then touching your eye. if his job involved touching VAGINAS and WEE-WEES, then that would be more likely.

you said you worked at a clinic?

^^i think when kylea said morons, she was referring to the guys who request extras. They should know that getting extras in a strip club is a huge risk for stds and if they dont, they are morons. And the fact that they are looking for extras in a strip club is another indication that they are dumb lowlifes. These guys deserve whatever they get IMO.

it would be possible for herpes to get spread to the eye like that. unlikely, but possible. If the virus somehow ended up on his finger then he scratched his eye hard enough, the virus could enter and cause problems. Improbable but not impossible.

    Ok, the ocular herpes thing:

Aside from during outbreaks, herpes is most contagious during a period called virus shedding.
"Both are most contagious during active outbreaks, but are often spread through viral shedding when there are no recognizable symptoms. According to Spruance, people with recurrent oral HSV-1 shed virus in their saliva about 5% of the time even when they show no symptoms. In the first year of infection, people with genital HSV-2 shed virus from the genital area about 6-10% of days when they show no symptoms, and less often over time. (Both of these figures reflect shedding as detected by viral culture.)"

It is very, very unlikely, but, IF the man who was infected had scratched his crotch during an outbreak or virus shedding period (thus gotten the virus likely under his fingernails) very shortly before shaking hands with the man who did not have herpes, and the man who didn't have it immediately touched is eye, there is a remote possibility. My favourite saying: unlikely, but entirely impossible.

The herpes virus only survives outside the body for about four hours. So all of this would have to happen extremely quickly. Herpes virus loves warm, moist environments: hence mouth, genitals, and eyeballs.

However, I think it would be entirely more likely to get ocular herpes from overly zealous oral sex during a virus shedding or outbreak.

Just my opinion. But then again, I am no expert (yet).

Ocular herpes is pretty brutal though. I would flip my shit if I got it.

It's called Valtrex and there is a generic brand called Valacyclovir that works just as well and it's more affordable if you don't have insurance.

"It appears that the herpes simplex virus can’t enter the body easily through intact skin. Areas where the skin is damaged or broken can more easily be infected."

"The could theoretically survive on the glass or cutlery for a short period, but the risk of transmission is low because typically the glass or cutlery would not be firmly rubbed on to the second person’s lips."

    Seems like it's fairly unlikely.

Yeah, it's kind of like toilet seats. The virus can live outside the body for a short period of time, but you'd really have to work to get it.
