    Skull Ear Infection

I guess I'm writing this just to see if anyone else suffers from ear infections, and if so how long you waited 'til you went back to the club. I have no clue why, but I didn't start getting them until I was older. Like maybe 19 or 20 years old. Which is totally ass backwards from what most people experience. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's because I was a smoker for so long, about 10 years.

This time it's the worst it's ever been. I've been out of work for more than a month because of how sick I've been. It sucks my freakin' will to live. I think the infection itself is gone because I went through a week of antibiotics that the doctor perscribed, but the stuffiness and hearing loss is still really bad. And it's been this way for two weeks.

I'm going back to the doctors soon to see if maybe my eardrum ruptured. I don't know. I'm also going to ask about work. I don't know if the second hand smoke and loud music might make it all worse? I almost don't wanna risk it but I HAVE TO GO to work or else obviously I can't pay the bills. I'm at a loss. It's the lowest I've been in a long time.

OMG. I feel your pain. Ear infections are MISERABLE.

Like you, I've had SO many bad ones--starting when I was 21! Like, we're talking going to bed and waking up and your pillow is covered with green puss that came out your ears. I do think the fact that I was smoking (among other unhealthy habits) made me more likely to get recurrent infections.

I had 8 infections in one year once. I have scar tissue on my eardrums because the infections were so bad.

You do need to see a doctor to figure out why the pain is persisting. Go to work, but take it easy--mellow stage sets, no drinking, a short shift if possible.

I hope you feel better soon!

I wonder why we didn't get them until we were in our 20s? That just boggles my mind. The only thing I can think is maybe because of smoking...

I forced myself to go to work and honestly I think it made my ear better. The dancing was the most physical I had been for the entire month and I think it helped that tube (eustachian tube or something?) open up because within the first hour of dancing my deaf ear started to pop. And now it keeps on popping, and I think that's the sign that that tube is finally opening up. So yay! It doesn't feel as stuffed and I think I've actually regained a bit of hearing. Hopefully within this week it will feel 100% again.

So did you ever figure out how to prevent these nasty things? I swear I'd rather give birth than go through an ear infection!

I'm 29 and have gotten multiple ear infections every year of my life. The doctor is always telling me I'll grow out of them. I hate doctors

There is an OTC ear drop made by Similisan you can find in Walmart and Walgreens that gives relief from the pain pretty quickly. I won't even take antibiotics anymore; I just get oil of oregano from the health food store. I swallow the pills and then pop a few open and warm them up a bit in microwave and put pour them in my ear. You can also take the pills to prevent them. The second I get even a little stuffy I swallow maybe 3 pills. Warning: they will give you a hot flash about 5 minutes after swallowing them. This is normal. I also eat something after taking them as the aftertaste can be horrible!

Having seen the ear/nose/throat docs they tell me that it has a lot to do with your tonsils if you start getting them as an adult as opposed to a kid. Unsure if a doc would remove the tonsils for you or not based on ear infections.

Interesting, thanks for the advice. Well my ear still has fluid in it and I'm still experiencing some hearing loss because of the fluid build up. Went to see the doc again this morning and he's reffering me to an ENT doctor. I'm not sure what to expect with the ENT doc but hopefully my ear resovles itself. This is the longest it's had fluid and I'm just worried about getting another infection. But I've heard people say it can takes months for the fluid to drain. ARG! I'll update once I see the ENT doc.

I hear sweet oil helps and once again, I'm going to say this

Olive leaf Extract. What it is - is an immune system kick starter. It's safe to take with regular antibiotics. Any sort of bug, virus or infection that you have it helps your own body fight.

Recurring infections are a sign of antibiotic failure. In other words, your body is getting use to it and it's not working as well as it should. So that means to make the antibiotic work as it should, you might need a higher milligram dosage. You see where I'm going with this?

    Ugggh..

OLE can be found at health food and at GNC.

    Hope you feel better soon!

What are you on? My doctor just gave me some hardcore antibiotics for my ear infection - I get mine from being stupid. When I shower water gets in my ear - I then use cotton swabs to "get the water out" which compacts the ear wax and keeps the water in the ear causing ear infections. Finally got reamed with that. Good to know the answer tho.

I was just put on . I've never seen a pill this big in my life. I'm actually scared to take them.

Break the pill in half and use a straw in your drink. I have a hard time taking pills myself. Big ones like that make me gag.

When you shower, use some sort of ear plug. You can get the el cheapo ones at sports stores. They are little foam things. Gun enthusiasts use them. I use to use them for my kids ears when they got baths .

I do the same thing...stupid of me but I don't learn. I have an ear infection right now. On Ciprodex and Levaquin. I've had probably 3-4 over the last 3 years.

^^ Bet you're gonna keep using the swabs too huh? My doc had an assistant clean out my ears this time and OMG - the guy was like this stuff is super compacted in there - it was gross - of course I had to look in the bowl when he was done!
