    Default Protein Bars

im looking for a tasty protein bar that isnt high calorie and wont bulk me up. anyone know of any good brand to try? not a meal replacer but more of a snack in between meals.

i dont wanna go out and try a bunch of different brands because the bars are expensive and i heard alot of them can be yucky.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

There's 2 I really like, one @ Trader Joe's, it's a nut/cherry bar for $1.49. Not overly filling, or too sweet. It also come in chocolate.
The other one I like is at vitaminshoppe.com (actually I get it at their regular store) it's by Jake, I can't think of his last name. Also, not too sweet, a little more filling then the one above, not overly so..I just can't stand gloopy, sweet bar, if I want those, I just get a regular candy bar.
My 3rd choice is SoyJoy, eh they're cheap, .47 @ Target.

I love Luna bars and Clif bars. And I'm pretty sure they're both made with organic ingredients, and they're incredibly yummy and dessert-like.

I think the best tasting ones are promax. They have different kinds of bars, so the calorie count on them varies. There's a coconut caramel one that tastes just like those girl scout cookies "samoas", it's sooo good.

They carry them at 24 hour fitness, and I also buy them at Albertson's, sometimes cheaper. There's also the apex protein cookies which are really good. The white chocolate macademia nut are incredible, especially if you've been dieting.

Luna bars are delicious and they are 100% all natural. Kashi makes some great tasting ones as well.

So, women shouldn't eat protein? Didn't you say you were a trainer and had worked with figure athletes? I guess you're just a fucking liar then, big surprise there...

lady, if saying "protien farts...don't do it ladies" doesn't ring a bell of sarcasm in you're head then I would take some classes on how to have a personality at the local community college. That, or I need to take a class on how to be funny.

The cliff bars and other female protien bars on the market take into account female "issues" and usually spike the calcium. But with an "energy" spike you are usually getting more sodium/sugar/fat and less protien.

The best protein product on the market right now is Pure Whey Protein. Less calories and fat, and it is the most effective. Fastest in protein regeneration and richest in essential amino-acids. For women looking to stay lean and tone, you want to be eating around .7-.8g of protein per pound of body weight a day. So around 100-150grams.

Seriously though, dont do it! The farts are stinky!

There are women on this board who think that eating nothing but maple syrup and lemon juice for an entire month is "healthy".

Know your audience. Many, many women on this board don't get anywhere near enough protein. If you think it's funny to make jokes that might make them get any less, then you are a shitty trainer and a shitty person.

I always thought being a shitty "master"-trainer(ahem ahem) and a shitty person were mutually exclusive.

Listen, this is the internet. Im here to dick around and have a few laughs for a couple minutes and then do something else. I didn't realize that some of you would take it literally. My bad if that is the case.

Protien is absolutely essential to sustain life. The amount of protien you need is catered to specific needs and specific fitness goals. Generally to maintain a healthy lifestyle you want to get your protiens from meats, lentals, eggs, and meal replacements.

Eggs have the highest concentration of "quality" protien. You should eat about 6-8 eggs a week.

i think ill try the muscle milk light bars and the luna bars that were suggested here first.the others sound alittle to sweet and high calorie.

ray the only problem with the powder is its not something i can make on the go. i needed something in bar form so i can put it in my bag.

    thanks for the suggestions ladies.

    Hi Katie,

Sounds like you are looking for a low calorie high protein supplement. Muscle milk will not serve your purpose. Just about any of those shakes and or bars that taste "good" are high in calories.

Then again, it depends on what your fitness goal is. The general rule of thumb is that your caloric intake needs to be the same as your output if you want to maintain a stagnant weight. A calorie is a unit of heat, or energy, and your body treats it as such. 1st law of thermodynamics says that energy can't be created or destroyed. Therefore, stastically and scientifically, 3100 calories equals 1 lb of STORED energy which is better known as fat.

Protein is a rebuilding and healing agent. It wont serve that much of a purpose if you have not coupled it with a goal-specific training regimen.

I've been trying to up my protein too and the best bars are the Zone bars. I eat one for breakfast with a glass of skim milk and it fills me up til lunch, no problem. And bonus, no "poots"! They are called Zone perfect and have 12 grams of protein. They taste great (especially the dark chocolate almond) and are under 200 calories.

i really like the adkins caramel/nougat/peanut ones. they're like a snickers, but tastier and with 20g protein, i believe. also, the chocolate south beach diet breakfast bars are good, so are the cinnamon raisin granola bars.

i try to keep my snacks around 200 calories, so you might want to keep that in mind as a guideline.

I like regular Powerbars, they have less than 250 cals, no frosted coating or anything that can melt, plus since they are chewy, they take longer to eat, you can't just wolf them down in 2 seconds! My fave flavors are Vanilla Crisp, Oatmeal Raisin, and Cookies & Cream!

I like the Dr. Atkins bars, but I only do a 1/2 bar at a time.

so i tryed a couple, pure protein which was majorly gross. will not buy those again! and snickers marathon which were good but i think they were filled with sugar or alittle too much like a candy bar.

i also got the 100 cal southbeach protein bars, havent tryed them yet but when i do ill review....i do know theyre not as much protein as the others.

I'm not a trainer or anything . . . but I really like the "think thin" brand of bars. They have 240 calories and 20g of protein. I eat one whenever I'm pulling a long-ass shift at the club. They're really filling: very dense, not breadlike or granolalike, so you can't snarf it super fast. The white chocolate ones taste just like powdered donuts, and the peanut butter ones all taste like recess chocolates!
