not sure if this belongs here. but:

so im just moving into my apartment tmrw. and i want a pole. but i dont have enough room on the tile to put it.
i feel like putting it on the carpet would be sketchy? anyone know if its okay to put a portable pole like the carmen electra pole on carpet?

You do NOT want the Carmen Electra pole. I had one, and it was such a piece of crap. You couldn't work on that thing for more than a minute before it would start to get loose and fall. It's tension mounted, so if you spun counterclockwise even a bit it would get wobbly.

Get the X-Pole. I've heard good things about them. And I think you're actually supposed to install those on carpet as opposed to tile or wood.

I second that...NO electra pole! It's a piece of shit and it's extremely unsafe and not meant to hold any weight despite what the ads claim. You can bolt it to your ceiling for more stability but the way the pole is threaded you will get scratched up really badly and the material the pole is made of isn't good for tricks.

I have an XPole and it's installed on carpeting and I have no problems with it. It's fantastic and I definitely recommend getting one, I've had no bad things to say about mine and it switches from spin to static which is my favorite feature. You can get one with free shipping from StudioVeena.com. That's where I ordered mine from and I got it in a few days. But if you have any questions about the XPole feel free to message me I had a girl come over tonight and play on mine who is thinking of buying one and she loved it.

I believe Alena Downs sells poles. She is on this site.

I would recommend staying away from the Carmen Electra pole. Either get yourself a pole with a stage (like Platinum Stages or the new X Pole) or get a decent pole like the Lil' Mynx with a non-slip grip for slick surfaces. I don't recommend dancing on carpet ever. If you go with the second option you can some slabs of presswood from the hardware store and cover it with a slick material that's easier to dance on. Home Depot carries these sheets/panels that you can cut in half and use both sides to make a square. My friends says it's called melamine but it could be masonite. It was near the bathroom section, it's thin though so you have to nail it down to heavier slabs of wood but it's cheap and works well on carpet. You just put the pole up on top of it.

Here's something that look similar to what I am referring to, but the surface is a bit reflective:

I have an X-pole on carpet. I have the same problem...no other place for it.

If at all possible, put some hard surface down. I fall right over trying to walk on carpet in my 8" platforms and dragging my bare feet across carpet makes my skin crawl.

Its okay if you're just practicing pole tricks...but dancing...forget about it.

I sell XPoles so if you have any questions feel free to ask or write me.

Xpoles can be easily used on any floor surface though I advise against ceramic tile as the pressure of the pole may crack the tile. Ceramic tile is just too fragile.

The X will stay up without slipping on any surface...laminate, wood, linoleum, concrete and carpet.

Obviously dancing on carpet isn't as easy but as the others said you can put some sort of firm/hard surface underneath the pole. The pole itself is so secure when put up correctly it would hold the flooring you put under it in place.

PS...as well as X, have a base cushion...which makes it completely safe for Carpet, hardwood, tile, etc!

My install video on the PS shows that I have carpet....it also gives tips on how to ensure the base is pressed into the carpet!

^^ thats what i did, i usually danced in a pair of boots that werent more then 5.5 inches high so i never had carpet issues, however i used the pole more for pole tricks then just plain dancing

I sell, dance on and teach on x-poles and I too have mine installed on carpeting, but only because my apartment is all carpet except the kitchen. It leaves a pretty depressed indentation in the carpet (I had it up for a few months, took it down for a party, put it back up in a different place, and two months and daily vacuumings later it's still pretty visible. But it's sturdy as all hell.) Then I got a 6' x 9' patch of woodish linoleum , threaded it over the pole and then nailed it through the carpet and into the floor to keep it in place. That way I still have a soft landing when I fall, but dancing in shoes and socks is SO much better than carpet burn on the feet and knees!!

Let me know if you want an x-pole instead, depending on your ceiling height I can get you a huge discount opposed to the x-pole website. DON"T get a carmen pole. A student of mine got one and as soon as she started trying to do inverts (she only weights 120lbs) it snapped. Her dad sauttered it back into place but now she's too afraid to use it anymore and her x-pole is on the way!

I don't like carpet. I think it's just a think from being professionally trained on wood sprung floors for so many years. Carpet drives me batty since you can't really move the same on it, there's always a bit of "drag" when pivoting and such.

I love my X-Pole. You don't have to install it on carpet, but I don't see why carpet would be a problem.

Get the titanium gold edition, though. It's nice and sticky like a brass pole.
