    Question What's Your Motivation/Inspiration?

When it comes to exercise and eating right I'm probably the least motivated. I don't wanna say I HATE exercise but it takes A LOT to get me going. I think my biggest problem is getting the feeling of being *stuck* in my poor habits. I need some new ideas! What do you do to get motivated about exercise? What inspires you to change your lifestyle? I know it doesn't happen over night, but I just can't seem to find the right motivation or inspiration to keep me going through the rough spots.

    I think motivation is overrated.

You just do it. You force yourself to. Reward yourself with a new piece of clothing or something once you get to one of your goals.

I think most people spend their time waiting for the 'motivation' to kick in and just ignore the fact that they can go out and do it right now

So go exercise! Get into the habit! Then you won't need to think about motivation.

I motivate myself by finding a picture of my ideal body or a picture of something I really want to look stellar in, and I make sure I see that picture allll the time. Recently I was sliding a little on my diet and excersize plan and went shopping with my mom. She bought me a swimsuit that looks good on me, but when I'm done toning and slimming it will look killer! So right now that swimsuit is my inspiration.

I want a boston terrior so bad! They are the funniest dogs Lexi's advice is the best! I'm always trying to over-analyze things, I think. Although I am genuinely interested in others' answers.

I did more exercise today than I have in forever, too. But I also ate a ton of bad food for the familys mother's day celebration. Uhg, damn you cupcakes! I made the mistake of exercising right when I got home.. maybe a half hour after a huge meal. Blooog, I feel like ralf

I'm hoping to wake up before the baby tomorrow so I can get some biking in!

I watch shows on E like top 50 bikini bodies. I know prob not the best motivation, but for some reason seeing these hot chicks looking sexy and toned makes me more motivated to set down the beer/shit food and get off my ass.

    I disagree.

Finding a purpose is essential until it becomes systematic. Even then, having motive will help you pass platues.

I use a simple fundamental motivation for everything I do in life: I live once. Why not live doing what makes me feel good.

I went for a 20 min jog/walk (15 seconds jog/45 seconds brisk walk) with my incredibly lazy pound puppy, Jade, (only took her 2 blocks to stop looking for trees to lay under and get into it with me). Then, I came home and did 15 minutes on our elliptical. I finalized it with 5 minutes of Ab work and 5 minutes of good stretching/yoga poses. I'm telling ya...I feel better already, even though doing Ab work with a Ninja Kisser Boston terrier (Walter) is comedy. Laughter counts as Ab work right?

Badonka Tatonka no more! Captain Good Booty is gonna be on her way back!

I get bored easily with working out, so I find that doing lots of different things helps keep my work outs fresh, like: Lap Swimming (My fave), Yoga, Pilates, Weight lifting, lots and lots of lunges and squats, jogging, etc. The best advice a swimmer gave me once was to never do ONE thing more than thirty minutes at a time. Keeps your body and mind challenged and less likely to become bored.

Have you tried kick-boxing or boxing?

there are some GREAT gyms in vegas. Xtreme couture comes to mind. As does Cobra-kai among many others.

You can make work-outs fun. And kick-boxing or other sports is definitely one of them.

I want to feel that from the inside, and everytime I work out or eat healthily, I get a little bit closer to contentment.
wow, I don't know if you recognize how fundamentally true and raw your post was. Beautiful.

I think you've hit the nail on the head in terms human discontentment. At the end of the day, we all want to feel wanted and loved. We all want some sort of reassurance from our immediate society that what we are doing is "good" or even "Ok". This is because our surroundings and what we've come to learn is exaclty what we emote onto the world.

Self-realization and self-gratification is essential. Your mother, father, sister, brother, child, lover etc. are all a part of your life, but they are far from who you identify as yourself. Understanding that you are the beginning and ending of your consciousness is essential. You create your subconscious, and that further manifests into your conscious. This means that you are the ABSOLUTE CONTROLLER OF YOUR IMMEDIATE UNIVERSE.

how fucking crazy is that shit?

if u want...you can manipulate yourself to start seeing things right now...this second. How hard can it be to manipulate yourself into good health, and self-satisfaction?

Well they have a purpose, and that's to look and feel better. Motivation is different. Motivation is, supposedly, that push that drives you to do it daily.

I think we're talking of motivation differently.

When most women talk about wanting motivation to exercise, we're saying we want the driving force to exercise. We want something to encourage us and make us and to always feel a drive to do it, and THAT is overrated because it's not something long term. Motivation, in that regard, comes and goes in spurts.

Basically, we hope that motivation will be like a personal trainer - it will make us exercise even when we don't want to, and it will drag our ass from bed and get us on the treadmill and will make sure our diets are good and healthy.

At least I know that's what I always hoped motivation would be like. Instead I just had to suck it up and force myself, day in and day out. Some days it's easier, other days it's harder. Some days I screw up, other days I'm great.

And yes, I over analyze things way too much. My boyfriend is the one that's trying to teach me that sometimes life just doesn't have to be so complicated.

Hopefully this made sense as I'm running on very little sleep.

There are two issues with working out: 1) Getting started and 2) maintaining your regimen.

For me, I'm goal setter... so having a firm and fixed goal in mind motivates me to action.
Most times its maybe a vacation on the beach, or a marathon I want to run... either way I'll try to have a timeline and a goal in mind so that I can not only be motivated to start, but also motivated to keep up the workout plan.

Well, pardon my french, but your bf is a fucking retard. Keep over-analyzing, but learn to understand that you are special and different, and most people will not understand how you think.

Your post was probably one of maybe 4 or 5 posts ive read here that actually has some substance.

I think your post was very logical.

Yeah, Ray, you have some issues with people.

That being said, I agree with the second half of your post, and most of Lexi_Girls post.

I am in the middle of a fat loss/muscle gain regimen, and there is absolutely no magic wand to make it just happen. You have to control how you approach every work out session, you have to decide how/what you eat at every meal, and every time if you want to continue performing to gain the associated benefits. As for motivation, that is all the motivation there is; knowing that changes are happening because of the choices you make.

As much BS as Ray spouts (and I know most of it is kidding), all of his training advice seems to be great.

Exactly my point. This isn't just about exercise but about everything that requires energy. For instance, starting a business. Most people get so stuck on the DETAILS of starting a business that it takes time away from what they need to do to actually DO.

I procrastinated for about 2 months before auditioning at the stripclub because I was hoping for some motivation. In the end, I just had to suck it up and go in.

It's nice to debate minutiae, but sometimes it's really important to not get stuck in the details and just do what /needs/ to be done.

^That balance between planning and just doing is sometimes hard to find. I think a PLAN is a good thing, but, as you guys say, you have to just go at some point.

And I understand about the fear of success. Don't know WHY, but I have the same issues.

    Good luck with the business.
