Default A Question to those who have another job

I apologize if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn't find anything.

What is your "day job" and has dancing affected it in any way?

I ask because I am a real estate agent and things are so slow for me now and I have been wanting to dance anyway, I'm just wondering what kind of effect dancing could have on my other career.

I have a VERY unique situation (I work in IT and Networking) and am fortunate to have become dubbed the original "IT Stripper". The people I work for LOVE that I'm a stripper.

As soon as I move to full-time with them, I've made it clear I'm not going to quit dancing. They're cool with that as long as I fulfill my daily obligations with them. lol

I don't see how it would affect you negatively, unless someone found out or you live in a very conservative area. *shrugs* You're maintaining a day job, so you'll have something to stick on your resume, which is usually the big concern. I'm fairly sure we have a thread on this already... I'll try to find it.

what you may want to consider is dancing FAR away from your biz area. You never know when you will run into a client or even a potential client that later on walks into your office to buy a home and suddenly things get awkward when he recognizes you!

I feel it is a good idea to keep your personal and professional lives completely separate from dancing because of the stigma the exotic dance world holds. Having to answer questions or make anyone uncomfortable takes up multiple hours in the day!

My day job is teaching. I've been fortunate so far in that nobody I works with knows that I strip (at least to my knowledge). Since the end of last year, though, I've been stripping full-time. I just started a summer teaching gig, and I plan to strip occasionally, when I feel like it, or if I need the money.

There is always a risk of being "outed" as a stripper, but if you exercise discretion, wear a wig, use a stage name, dance in a different city, you can minimize that risk. I believe quite a few dancers do real estate--including caseydancer. This is her blog, which you might find relevant: http://caseydancer.livejournal.com/

I've had a few sales jobs, they came after dancing. Super easy transition LOL!

i work in a different city than i dance in, but both my jobs merge a lot. during the day i work at a friends aesthetics buisness. i have the certification to do waxing and nothing else. i started cause she was in a jam and needed someone, i was on board since then i get all primped for work for free. but because of that a lot of my clientelle are girls i work with, or know from other clubs. so i hid stripping on the side for oh, about an hour lol... but it also gave me a huge boost at my day job, since luckily i guess im nice enough at work that ive been reccommended a lot. so, both places know about my employment at the other, but for me it worked out really well. ive even had a couple of customers find out what i do and then come into the club to see me.... ca ching....

I work in a coffee shop and have only seen a few of my customers from there at my club. Both times it was just wink wink and we'd leave each other alone to do our thing. My coffee shop boss knows and loves me and even if her bosses found out they'd have no grounds to fire me because I'm awesome at this job. But neither job is a career; if I actually had a career I think it would be a different story.
