Default Info about clubs in Portland.

Hi, I've danced in Seattle for a couple of years and I'm looking for a change of scenery. I'm considering working in Portland, and I'm looking for information about clubs there. I'm particularly interested in Dolphin, Dolphin II, Exotica, Mary's, Stars Cabaret, and Union Jacks.

Are any of you currently working at any of these, or have in the past? What do you like about them? What don't you like about them? How are the house fees? How hard is it to get on the schedule? What are the dances like? What is the money like? What other clubs, if any, would you recommend? What are they like?

Sorry for asking so many questions, and thanks in advance for your answers!

Definitely call before making the trip down to PDX. A lot of the Portland clubs aren't hiring right now, and have way too many girls. Portland has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, so a lot of girls are coming out of retirement to dance again.

All the clubs you mentioned are decent in that they follow the law and there aren't any extras. But competition is stiff atm.

Seattle is super close to Portland. I recommend taking a 2 day trip down here as a field trip before you decide apon the club that you like. Mary's is the hardest of the clubs as they only schedule just a few girls per night and is mainly a stage club. Dolphin and Stars clubs are fairly large but you may want to come down for during your field trip and audition since they are fairly picky. Union Jacks is pretty good but once again you need to do the field trip. Table, lap dances for the clubs above are mainly "air dances," except for the dolphin clubs they have semi-contact dances which are not lap dances but kind of a clothed cuddling experience which alot of customers in Portland really like since its somewhat intimate. Exotica from what I understand does have a bit more contact dances, but all of the clubs above allow no touching from the customers. Alot of Seattle based dancers go to Jiggles and Cabaret so check those out too. House fees in Portland are low from what you probly have experienced in Portland. Extras(illegal stuff does not happen in our clubs here) Money here is not so good right now unless you are a super hot super hustler. If you are not a super hot super hustler you really should consider another town at the moment.

It's definitely slow up here in Seattle at the moment, and a couple girls I talked to have said the same about Las Vegas. I'm not sure about anywhere else, though. What other cities would you recommend I look into?

ive worked at quite a few of those clubs. marys is my main gig and honsetly, its a pain in the ass to get on the schedule aand you dont get anyting rad unless youve been there at least a year. its alot of stage and not for everyone, so if youre traveling i wouldnt recommend it.
the dolphin clubs or cabaret are more likely to put you on the schedule right away, they take alot of travelers. union jacks , ive bartended there and danced both, the stage fees are pretty damn high so i stopped working there. its a cool club however last i remember it was pretty slow.
its been picking up here, ive had two good weeks in a row and some of my girlfriends out there also have been having better nights and weeks.
why dont you try going to guam, or australia?? i made a good amount of money in australia and i hear some good stories about guam....

I've done working vacations to PDX before. The most recently time I was there (a month ago, for pleasure not business) I asked around at quite a few places (some of which I had worked before) about dancing and they just plain weren't hiring---full of girls, etc.

Hey Kyla don't mean to offput Portland for you its just not a money town considering we have so many damn clubs. It doesn't mean you won't make money here really. I think you should consider it but don't get your hopes up. If you are looking for another town besides Portland, don't go to Las Vegas its not the best time but of course that does not mean you won't make money there either. It is possible you have your hustle on and are hot but there are thousands of girls like that there too. I recommend Alaska. Alot of Stripper Webbers do not recommend Alaska but I did well there a few years ago and now is the time. If you are over 21 I recommend the Bush Company, if you are under 21 give Sinn Rock a call. The money there is not what it used to be but there is money there this time of year. Its expensive to stay there this time of year and you have to look around for a reasonable place. I had no problem getting a month to month apartment for around $600. The hotels will rob you blind. Also, I tried Montana a few years ago and my experience was lucrative. I tried Dallas also and was amazed at the amount of money alot of the girls were making but I did not do so well because I was not used to the contact level that was allowed(customer touching heavy grinding) so I had to go since that kind of contact hustle was not was I was used to. Good Luck!

I second that. I quit dancing in Portland almost a year ago and when I tried to take it back up several months ago, no one was hiring. I would avoid Diablos...I think that's the name. Whatever the so called vegan strip joint is. Dude had me do a one song audition which he didn't even watch. He left to go play CHESS!! Chess in a titty bar??? This is after a 15.00 cab fare just to get there. Much as I love it keep clear of Magic Garden. Near impossible to get a good shift and I can't really tell you what the criteria are for getting one. Just depends on whether or not the boss lady likes you. Beyond that the place is chock full of drama, drama, drama all the damn time. I've auditioned at mary's and passed the audition but never got put on the schedule. Cabaret is a touch on the sketchy side. Big house fee and they like to shuffle the girls between Downtown and Cabaret II which is in gresham. I tried out downtown but got sent to II. Then I took out my extentions and they put me back downtown, so who knows really. Can't comment on the "big clubs" apart from safari. you might give it a go but be forewarned that their booking guy is a first class slimeball!

I agree that you should look elsewhere. Oregon's economy is in the toilet: super-high unemployment! Probably even more so than the rest of the country. Couple that with an industry that relies on the disposable income of it's clientele. Not a good combination. I'm a native oregonian who's worked allover town and I'm fixing to relocate to new york to look for greener pastures. Generally speaking that is, not just with stripping.

Ugh. I have to agree that Portland is in a really tight time period for stripping. I also work at Mary's- and luckily after several years off and on there, I get a couple of good shifts- but finding a second club to work at has been next to impossible. I've been looking for the last couple weeks, and every club I used to work at is overwhelmed by dancers trying to get on the schedule, and a lot of clubs have started charging girls ALL of their house fees TWO WEEKS ahead of time for their whole schedule. So... in order to work at Acropolis or Exotica, you have to plunk down hundreds of dollars in fees before you even do yr shifts. Crazy! In Portland? We don't even have that kind of money, period. I wish I could travel to work somewhere else- I have worked in Texas, NYC, and SF and anywhere is better than Portland.

the only club worth dancing at in Portland IMO is club 205. No dance hustle, all stage tips, cap on the number of girls because it's scheduled, super clean, awesome DJ and bouncers, really fun girls. Average there was 330, very consistent money too.

You have to audition for rockstar first and then if they like you, they'll put you on schedule.

The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

I want to add that I just started at Dolphin I and it's not bad- a nice, upscale (for Portland!) club with easygoing management and money potential if you can hustle a bit. The fees range for $5 day to $20 at night, and during my first week I walked with about $150 days and $350 nights. I was hired SAME-DAY and given as many shifts as I wanted. Mary's is still my main and favorite club, but if you're looking for something right away with lots of shifts, come hang with me at Dolphin!
