    Default Going on a "Stripabout"

    Hey girls-

I have been feeling this itch to get the hell out of my city (San Diego) for a while now. I have danced at the same club for 3 years and I feel like I am just too comfortable here. Comfortable meaning I am friends with all of the girls and spend most of my time saying hi, chatting blah blah blah. I cant help it. So i feel like i should get out of here where i wont know anybody so that it will keep me focused on making$$. Also, my girlfriend (yes im les) is in Iraq until September so I don't have any major obligations to be here. So what do you girls think about doing a sort of walkabout stripper-style ALONE? I kinda feel like exploring and fingding out more about myself, etc. Also, I do have a small dog and he will be coming with me I guess im looking for advice on where to go (preferably clubs/cities that don't require a LICENSE) Any advice/experiences on doing a major cross-country trip alone??

Oh you will have a blast! I took a hiatus from my day job and danced across the country and back a few years ago. It was awesome.

AAA and a reliable car are an absolute must. I also sent my mom an email with each travel day's plan and another when I reached my destination each day. I found that many smaller clubs would let me work a week or so with a license from my home state. I also did lots of amateur nights. I always looked for an older friendly dancer when I worked and asked her questions about the area. You can usually find at least one in an average club during day shift. I found lots of gold mine clubs this way and I learned a lot about what looks were money makers for the area.

Stores that cater to dancers are another great source of info. I would go in check out their stuff and strike up conversations. You will find that most people can't shut up once they start talking.

I had a nest egg so money I made on the road was nice but I would have been able to pay my way without it. I would say be careful of getting stuck somewhere where its do or die. I also stayed with friends off and on but I had a self imposed limit of 2 days with anyone.

That's some great info, GI Barbie!

My area, New Orleans, doesn't require a license. Just bring your driver's license and SS card (and honestly, I've worked at clubs that didn't even ask to see ANYTHING). New Orleans is a fun place to visit, too, but just be warned that the money making potential is at its lowest in the summer months.

Have fun. I'm itching to take a strip trip myself, so I look forward to living vicariously through yours.

Even if certain states require you to have a license, it's probably worth it if the license is under $100, especially if you go to somewhere like Vegas.

I was planning on touring the country but I'm not sure if I wanted to put that many miles on my car. I'd also call ahead and see what each club requires and if they'd be able to fit you into their schedule.

I've personally done this many times, most recently this last Feburary-April. I started in Florida and danced my way across the country to, well, San Diego, and then finally to LA, where I am now. I intended to continue up to San Fran, Portland, Seattle, but my job here in LA is so good that I kinda don't want to leave it. I DO intend on going up to those cities soon to try them out, but not the way I did things on my tour (i.e. I maintain homebase in LA).

As for advice, I've always gone alone, so I totally feel you on this. Always make sure people, like your friends and family, know where you are and always call them daily to check in, that way, if something DOES happen and you don't call, they will know something is up. Also, carry pepper spray as defense and just be careful leaving the clubs late at night and getting into your hotel later on. I personally try to stay away from hotels, because unless they are nicer ones (which I'm too cheap to stay in), they can be really really shady. Motel Six's are the goddamn worst! I've had so many bad things happen to me in them....at this point, I'd take a hostel over a Motel Six anyday! And honestly, I usually DO stay in hostels, or at friends houses. I'm blessed enough to know a lot of people in different cities, so usually I have a friend to stay with for free when I'm on the road, which is THE BEST way to do things since they can be accountable for you and call the cops if you don't show up when you're supposed to AND they can help you figure out which club to work at (well my friends at least go to strip clubs and can reccommend good local ones). If I don't have a friend in any given city, I try to then use Couchsurfing.com and find someone to stay with for free there, mostly because I'm SUPER thrifty and because I just like staying WITH someone. That way, I can ask them questions that only locals would know and again, I have someone to make sure I'm safe.

If I plan on staying for a longer peroid of time, I usually put an ad on craigslist and look for a room to rent for a month without a down payment or a security deposit. I've found some really badass places online that have been super cheap this way. I've even ended up living WITH dancers, lol.

As for finding clubs, check out the forum here that talks about clubs in different cities, and also, just go around and check the places out. Ask the management if you will need a permit or not, but most cities don't require this. If they do, (which I'm sure you're used to being in San Diego), mostly the mangement will help point you in the direction of getting one. Usually getting hired isn't hard at all, but if you tell them you are only going to be working for a little while, some places won't want you to work there. On all my stripper tours, I never really said anything to anyone who hired me about how long I intended to work. I just let them hire me and I worked for however long I wanted then left. I figured that if I ever wanted to come back, they'd just understand or I'd talk my way back into the schedule. Plus, oftentimes mangement changes and ownership of the club changes and they don't really remember you and you can get rehired easily.

You will find that being the perpetual "new girl" while on the road can be a bit disheartening. Some club's girls are SUPER MEAN to any new girl, and I've found this is especially so in smaller towns and in Texas (they hate Californians). You gotta have some thick skin and just know that since you're the new girl, people will hate on you. Always ALWAYS ALWAYS keep all your money on you and don't EVER leave anything of value in the dressing room even if it's in a locker. Girls will cut locks off and steal anything, from ipods to phones to cameras to MEDICINE! Keep it all with you out on the floor. And look out for managers trying to take advantage of the "new girl" or "out of towner". Make sure the rent and tip out they are charging you is the same as everyone else and if they count dances, make SURE you do too and make sure their figures match up with yours. Don't let them rip you off! Also, etiquette changes around the country in terms of what's acceptable amongst dancers, so watch how the other girls act and ask questions if you need to. Try to be respectful of the house girls regulars but at the same time, don't be afraid to just jump on in.

Be sure you know the rules regarding contact at any given club and what is expected of you in areas such as VIP. San Diego is a very safe, non-contact town, but most other places are NOT like that. Be prepared to give topless lapdances WITH contact, and topless dances WITH grinding, and also be prepared to deal with some dirty clubs, especially in cities where you don't really know which clubs are good or bad. Also, ask what sort of dress code the club wants from you before you go out on the floor--some clubs won't let you wear thongs on the floor, others don't care. Just ask as many questions as possible before you start your shift so that you won't feel so clueless and you can focus in more on making money rather than worrying if you're doing something wrong.

Other than that, HAVE FUN! I love roadtrips that I pay for by dancing, lol. I've seen so many cool things in clubs and along the way--I just love experiencing dancing in different states and all the people and customers you'll meet is really exciting! Keep a journal for sure! Write reviews.

    hey girls
thanks for all the good replies. So i've done some thinking. Since I'm in San Diego and love the coast. I am planning on driving up the coast all the way up to seattle and back. I dont have a drefinate time frame of when I will be back but I know this is the "path" that I'm going to take. I've read a little bit about clubs in portland/ seattle and didnt really hear any good review. Anyone have a good experience up there? I'm wondering how the contact/dances are. haha i think the reason why I want to go up to the Pacific Northwest was because I jus saw the movie Twilight lol AWESOME movie btw. Haha guess thats where I'm going!! yay

Spearmint Rhino in Santa Barbara is open only at night, I think 6 or 630pm until 3 or 4am. They dont require licensing.

Before you get to SB, you could always stop in LA at the Torrance Rhino which is bikini with alcohol, topless onstage only, not during dances. No license needed there either and no set schedule, just pay house fee and tip out at your discretion at the end of your shift. You just have to stay for 4 hrs once you get there unless you are ill or have an emergency during your shift.
