Angry What do you think about our tax money??!!!!!!

people that "service" in the senate.. get benifits after their term is over! I say BULLSHIT on that!!!!!!!! they already make wAYYYYYYYY to much.. It pisses me off SOOOO bad!!

I just heard on the news... that some government officails took a "business trip" complements to our TAX dollars and they were not doing a lot of business.. it was more like a vacation!

Ugh I am just so fed up with america and the way it is ran.. Dont get me wrong I love america, but the people that control the money are crazy!

Obama was in personal debt before he was president!! why didnt anyone think of this !!

I think it ought to be a law that you can not be in BAD debt to even run for president..
Yes there is good debt...IF you can afford it.. if you make 60k a year .. then you should be able to have a house and a car - but within your budget!!! ughh

and the medical insurance!!! is crazy.. I dont think we need to put everyone on medicaid but they should reform the insurance and dotors!!

there was a I.F about how other countries ran there medical stuff.. yes some were worst than others but A LOT were better than ours..
ever wonder why so many people come to america to be a doctor.. they make more money here because they can!!!

It should be a crime! the way some doctor charge people and insur. is so high because they get all the can from them!!

Docs. overseas only make about 60k-80k a year.. most of the doctor report making about 100k +++++++++

I had a problem recently and I needed My IUD taken out it was cause a lot of damage to my bladder, I had cyst so bad I could hardly work. and much more problems..

I call almost every doctor in the phone book.. some drs. wanted 200 for first time vistit.. and then 300 to take the IUD out.. for a procedure that only lasted 20MINUTES!!!

some wouldnt even give me a cash price because I didnt have insur.!!!

I finally found a dr that would do it all for 200 and he just though in an ultra-sound to make sure my last cyst was not a cancerous one..
we need more dr. that are here to help people not to be rich..

Yes they do save people and they do spend a lot of time in school but they could be reasonable!!

sorry its long but I needed to vent

^^^ in regard to politicians becoming obese at the 'public trough' ... yes this is undeniably true. And the anecdotal incidents go far beyond the retirement and health bennies that you describe. There are tons of cases of politicians putting family members on the public payroll, taking kickbacks / contributions from gov't contractors whom the politician helped to receive those lucrative contracts, and a long list of other outrages. But 90% of incumbent political office holders win re-election ... think about that fact !

As to the American medical system, this is an area which also requires deeper research in order to understand the true overall picture. One of the reasons that doctors / hospitals / insurance companies charge private patients so much is that they are being used to 'subsidize' costs created by public patients / mandatory 'charity' patients (i.e. illegal aliens who walk into US emergency rooms etc.) which are not 100% reimbursed by the gov't to the doctor / hospital. In countries with public health care, the gov't ultimately limits the types of treatments which patients will receive, limits the pay rates to doctors / nurses / hospital staff etc. and also makes sure that persons not covered by gov't health care (i.e. visiting foreigners) are charged through the teeth for medical care. There is also a huge difference in the American medical system's costs of 'liability' i.e. patients being able to sue doctors and hospitals, receiving huge jury awards, and creating astronomical medical malpractice insurance premiums which doctors and hospitals then must recover through higher bills to other patients. In public health care countries, in the vast majority of instances it is impossible for a patient who has been the 'victim' of medical malpractice to sue the doctor / hospital / government - which is great for controlling costs for gov't and taxpayers, but not so great for victims of malpractice.

The kind of health insurance that congress has is not unlike what most Americans had until the mid 1980's. If you had a high school diploma and worked at a manufacturing job or in retail, you got kick-ass health insurance. My dad was an auto mechanic in the 1970's (equivelent to an IT job today, there were lots of people doing it) and our family never had to pay a deductible or a co-pay.

How do I know? I remember how upset my parents were to discover that their insurance was going to demand a $5 co-pay per office visit and a $25 co-pay per hospital visit in 1984. How upset were they? My dad started looking for another job because he was convinced that his employer was ripping him off.

Isn't it interesting that "government insurance" is so good that every single member of congress has it and uses it? It also happens to be cheaper than any private insurance plan available in the US, that is why they haven't switched over to private providers.

I also wanted to note, that until very recently, employers would pay for insurance for it's retired employees for life, too. That is partly what has killed the US auto industry, the cost of insurance not just for current employees, but providing coverage for all their past employees that put in 20 years or more.

not wanting to lean overly far toward the political, but for a fact over 40% of the Americans that file tax returns don't actually pay any income taxes. Thanks to the 'earned income tax credit' many so called taxpayers actually receive a tax payout from the gov't. Additionally, another 8-10-12% of Americans don't have to file an income tax return at all, since the source of their 'incomes' is social welfare benefit checks, under the table earnings etc. Put these together, and you have a 'moral hazard' situation where an arguable majority of registered voters face essentially zero negative personal financial consequences as a result of increasing income taxes. In fact, some of those Americans who are net beneficiaries of gov't 'generosity' have a personal stake in seeing income tax rates increased, since this would supposedly provide a larger pool of tax revenues with which the gov't could fund even more 'generous' benefit levels. This is not a scenario that is likely to precipitate the 'real change' you seek.

^^I've always found it interesting how no one ever calls the earned income tax credit "welfare" but that is exactly what it is, welfare. Basically the government is saying "you are too poor to live in this country, so here's some money cause we feel like crap that you can't afford the basics."

BonsoirBella, don't freak out at the news. Learn how to read through the vast amounts of propaganda that is coming over the airwaves and through the internet at break-neck speed every day. The news doesn't even try to hide it anymore. Most news sources even advertise that they propagandize for your enjoyment (liberal/ conservative veiwpoints are the usual propaganda).

It is designed to emotionally manipulate you. Strip out all the crap and just look at the factual evidence in the news stories, and you'll see that frequently, there isn't ANY! When watching or reading the news just keep asking yourself: who, what, where, when, how, and why. That's it. If all all 6 questions aren't answered in the news story, it is propaganda. The fewer questions answered, the bigger the propaganda.

We don't even call it propaganda anymore. Now it's called editorializing or editorial content. Same diff. Someone wants you to think about a situation a particular way, and is using propaganda tools to manipulate you.

This page has a pretty good break down of the types of propaganda used most commonly. There are other kinds, of course, but these are what you will see most often in the news media. I like to play a game to see how often and what types are being used in a particular news article or broadcast. (Keith Olbermann is kind of obvious at it, Rush Limbaugh is not subtle at all etc. Hillary and Bill Clinton are amazingly good at it) It's kind of cool, that once you see it, you can see through all the crap that people are spewing at you to manipulate your behavior.

some people dont have the oppertunity or are just not capable of being rich..If you are in born in proverty, and you end up getting a job at 15 to help with the bills, your grades could suffer.. you get suck with most your familys bills, you dont get to go to college..ect...

So yes I think that the earn income tax credit is good.. I wouldnt raise it but yes it helps a lot of people.

oviously we pay enough taxes if they can go on outrages vacations and benifits AFTER you have finished your term!

a few years ago that 3rd party guy ran for president, he got like 3% and He said on the news.. Well I was at least hoping for 5 or 15 % I cant remember which but so he could get so much money..

the president also get a lot of money each year. a house, maids, chefs, assistants, ect, ect, ect!
Yes I realise that he need security, and all that.. but why does he need to be paid so much when EVERY SINGLE THING is given to him!!!! ????!?!?!?

Yes, they both are. However, the Repubs have been the lesser of the two evils (doesn't mean they get my vote).

Zealotry is bad concerning anything. Look at Pelosi, if she were 'religious', she would have already been attacked. Since her extreme leftist socialist views goes hand in hand with the media, she doesn't.

I have yet to hear about a politician that doesn't cite God as an inspiration for political values/beliefs/basis of societal regulation or tries to push their religious beliefs into a political forums, regardless of political affiliation. God's a great scapegoat. The ultimate wash of accountability. I'd like my politicians Athiest, actually. And motivated by science and fact, rather than mysticism and the need for an imaginary friend.

But do you think Clinton meant it, Bush? IMO the right is more devout while someone like Clinton just says it. I agree about the pushing religion, but pushing other beliefs (atheism) is just as bad.

There are all sorts of influence on people, religion happens to be one. One does not need to check it in at the door just because they are political, just as they shouldn't check in Bastiat.

Religion, science and fact are not exclusive. You can believe in them all with no conflict. For all the theories of evolution, science itself can shoot them down. So why would why believe in it.

We are, partly, a socialist nation - been that way for a loooong time. That includes some Republican and some Democrat backed policies. I'm not a socialist, but I do not see fault at being of service to your country - community building activities - however, not POLICIES. I DO see fault in regulating everything to death, yet on the flip, when the greedy bastards get out of control, they need to be reigned in. If nobody's doing it right, then any suggestions?

ohhhh, yes, yes, yes. But no one should be forced into being 'at service for your country'.

I could become dictator of america, maybe.

I'm not Rep or Demo, nor am I Libertarian. I think all politicians are self serving in the guise of public service and completely out of touch with their constituents. They are (mostly) all, YES, you got it - PHUCKERS.

Yes, they are all phuckers, just some bigger phuckers then others. lol

WHile I would never be a Democrat, I am not a Repub. Right wing conservative libertarian.

why would that be a joke?

    http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=23

    says that
    As of January 2009President$400,000Vice President$227,300Speaker of the House$223,500House Majority & Minority Leaders$193,400House/Senate Members & Delegates$174,000Chief Justice, Supreme Court$217,400Associate Justices, Supreme Court$208,100

    also ...

The President receives free room and board.

The White House is comprised of a movie theater, over 30 bathrooms, about 130 rooms, bowling alley and a vast number of other features. What would the norm have to dish out to live in these conditions? A whole lot if you ask me.
The president also has access to private Jets, Camp David and many other amenities. Are these costs also figured into the equation? What about the $50,000 non-taxable expense account that he has full access to, the $100,000 non-taxable travel account, and the $19,000 office entertainment account?
Once the President has served his term and no longer sits in the Oval Office, he stands to make a lot more money. President Clinton alone will make approximately $161,000 a year for doing nothing.
If you consider just the money the he is entitled to free spend, it comes up to $569,000. $569,000 is a lot of money and we having even considered food and housing.
What about the mortgage, or rent, on a place in which the President is living? I couldn't fathom the cost of that, electricity, heat, cleaning supplies, and staff to wait on his every whim. What about the cost of a private retreat? That definitely has a value.
Though one could argue that he doesn't get to keep these things and therefore it shouldn't be considered as salary. But he does get to use these. Any of us who would want to use things like these would, in fact, have to pay a hefty price tag.
If one would do the math, my estimate is that his gross earnings would be over $2 Million a year. That's $2 Million of our money. We spent this money well, didn't we?

If anyone really think he should get 2 MILLION a year, that is just fuck plain crazy.. sorry.
