    Default Auditioning TONIGHT in NY

After MONTHS of waffling on the idea, I've decided I can't put my dreams on hold any longer and just go for it to make the money and have fun while doing it. This Memorial Day weekend, I'm going to audition for a big lap club in NYC (even though I live out of state)... a friend of a friend knows one of the people in charge there so hopefully I'll be looked out for a bit more if the people there aren't nice. I figure there will be a lot of tourists there during this holiday. I plan to dance 2 nights/wk to start.

I used to cocktail at a pole club a few years back, and would dance VIP room, but this is the first actual dance gig I'm doing. I'm not really nervous about the lap stuff, but a bit nervous about the stage since they don't have a pole to play around with. My friend encouraged me to go to this lap place because he says I'd make more than a pole club, and not have to "dance for dollars", or potentially get money stolen onstage by other dancers on with me, as I overheard they've done at Rick's by other dancers.

I've got a simple bag packed with only the essentials and a lock, as well as my indispensable Treasure chest shoes.

I really wish I were going with someone to buddy up with, but oh well! Some things we must do on our own. Will let you know how it goes!

    Thanks WD and K!

I went to my target club to audition last night, and ended up being sent to their sister club, which made me unsure of whether that was a good thing or not.

The original club I had set my sights on wasn't doing as well as they used to anymore, but their new sister club, however, was really beautiful and sparkling new; Basically, the latest place to be. My audition at the first club had me dancing on a side stage with a pole (both clubs have no poles on the main stage), and I just went for it as if I had been doing it for ages and not nervous at all. It was around 9:15p, and there were some navymen there due to Fleet Week, which was cute. I was wearing a glittery gold gown with cutouts on the sides and tummy, with crystal and gold hoop earrings and my white garter and 6" heels. I smiled and made my eye contact as advised, and danced with as much grace and creativity my racing mind would allow. When they signaled me to come down, they told me "Not for here, but for our other club. You can go there now.", and handed me a card with the manager's name to ask for. I graciously accepted it and got dressed again and was on my way, a bit confused, but already caught up in the momentum of the evening so off I went to the next place. I showed up at the 2nd club, met the manager who I sensed was pleased with me straightaway...either that or I was just emanating supreme confidence and friendliness after listening to The Secret while reading The Psychology of Winning on my train ride earlier.

Anyway, the 2nd place was dazzling. At that, moment, I understood. The new club was really the place to be. Blessing in disguise! I arrived at 9:40. I was introduced to some of the hosts and bouncers on the way upstairs to the dressing room, where I met the housemum (business-like but amiable enough), and the hairstyling guys and makeup lady. There were dancers there already changing, and writing their names on a dry erase board to get their hair fixed up, so I scanned the room and spotted an empty space for me to set down my black duffle and change. I had trouble with two broken lockers, which was quite funny and embarrassing as I tried to pry the door open to get my things out since they wouldn't shut correctly, but the housemum eventually noticed after I started banging on the 2nd locker and helped me! There were two other girls auditioning at the same time, so she had us sit around her desk and went over all the rules with us. She asked us our stage names and wrote them down. I already had mine in mind. Both girls were really nice. Then two of us were led downstairs together to audition for the manager, on a side pole VIP stage. The club wasn't exactly full, but wasn't exactly empty either. A friendly-looking middle-aged man walked up to me and asked me if I would dance for him, and the housemum had to shoo him away. It was funny. I went second in auditioning, and took off my dress within the 10 seconds they had instructed us to. It was barely for one song. My mind just blended itself into the feel of the environment, and it felt really great actually. Then the other girl and I went upstairs and the housemum told us we were hired and that we could start that same evening, which we did! As a matter of fact, while we were told we were being hired, one of the hosts came upstairs to tell the housemum that the manager was looking for me to come down for a lapdance for one of his best clients...the same guy that had stopped to talk to me right before going onstage for my audition! Wicked! It went so well with him, that he vowed to return on Saturday (tonight). He bought 2 dances, and almost went into the VIP room but by the time I had come downstairs to dance for him after getting hired, it was all he had time for. Hopefully, he will show up again and spend some good time in VIP with me.

We worked approximately from 10p-4a. I will confess that by the third time I was on the main stage, I was lowering myself into a squat, and I wanted nothing more than to lay down there on the center of the floor and veg out!! I miraculously made it through that last set without doing that, ha. My first time on main stage, I actually went all out and did some light floor work, which I wasn't even sure we were allowed to do (and discovered it was ok). The second time on main, I was starting to feel a little tired from trying to become accustomed to the unfamiliar slipperiness of the floor and had one or two slightly wobbly ankles. I really slowed down my dance, somewhat posing, to have a bit more of a breather, which helped me regain enough might to power through the rest of the second song. The third time on main stage, I felt the most achey and tired, but I put extra effort into appearing stable on my feet and stylish in dance, in fear of looking boring. There was one guy I spotted during my first side stage dance, who I never imagined was interested in me since he was so poker-faced throughout my dance in front of him, but about 15 minutes later while I walked around, I was stopped by one of the massage ladies informing me he wanted a dance from me! He was so nice; It was just that he was also so drunk, ha. I did 5 lap dances, missed out on 2 because I was on stage rotation. Not bad for a first night, on a holiday, with slow business. The DJ was a bit annoyed with me because I didn't know the rule about being forbidden to step out of rotation for a lap dance, which I lost anyway when a host tapped me on the shoulder to go to the next stage. Oops. Ha. The DJ and I made nice later on though, which was good, because despite his seemingly uptightness, he seemed like a cool fellow. I lost both earrings at several, seperate times during the night due to weak earring posts, but somehow they both made their way to the housemum's desk! I will find new backings for them. There was one customer I spent time with drinking juice and talking to on and off throughout the last part of the night, and although I pretty much knew he wasn't going to buy a dance because he was obviously so sleepy and mentioned he doesn't usually come to these clubs, he still said he enjoyed talking to me and would really like to come back to see me. We shall see!

I locked up my new locker and got dressed into my pink top and jeans, with my godsend flip-flops!! My feet did not suffer nearly as much as my legs, but the heel did feel harder as the hours went by. I was so glad to be in flats. I zipped up my windbreaker over everything (for late-night modesty purposes), tipped out the housemum, DJ, hair and makeup people ($60 flat total) and gingerly made my way downstairs to the exit. One of the hosts standing outside as I was leaving, turned around and saw me, and asked if I needed a cab. When I nodded, he walked with me to the corner and found me one. Very sweet! He asked if I was working the next day, and I said I'd be there. Got to keep it going!

To be continued... My legs are so achey, and because I live out of state, I had to wait in the lobby for the trains to start running again so I could go home. It is about an hour and a half trip during those hours. I napped on the train, but thankfully awoke at my stop. I actually mustered the willpower to pick up my mail at the postoffice, then go home, shower, and crash into bed, which by then was around 10 a.m.! I am slender and fit, but I guess not that kind of fit, ha. I was so anxious to get to my bed and rest, that I practically had to force myself to shower before I did. I did not get up until 5p this afternoon, and I have to go back to the club in a couple of hours. Oh my...I don't know how I'm going to get used to this. Their minimum schedule is 3 days per week... Will be more motivating once we start rolling even more money. It is short-dress weekend, so I'm going to stop into the club's boutique to pick one out for the night before starting my shift. Hopefully they have a lavender one.

Got to go for now! Good luck to you also with everything!!

Thank you! The late hours are total madness, but as long as the boys come out to play, I'm golden... I enjoyed a very relaxing, and very much needed two days off I would have liked to work those as well, but I didn't want to push it after three consecutive evenings in the beginning. Need to adjust gradually or I'll burn out too quickly.

Hope things are going really well for you!
