Do you find it necessary to work out regularly or is the dancing enough to maintain your figure? Do the dancers like to hire personal trainers to work out with or do they like to work out on their own?

I have a pretty high metabolism so hitting the gym isn't really a necessity in my case. Dancing is enough for me but it also depends on the style of dancing you do. Wiggling your hips isn't enough, lol

I have hypothyroidism, do dancing is not nearly enough for me. I take a pill every morning for it. I work out 1-2 hours a day (cardio and weight training) 5-6 days/week. I have a trainer about 5-6 months out of the year. I train with him once or twice a week.

I hate the gym...I occupy myself with sports and lots of em..I consider that my *work out*

Also a very high metobolism here. I tend to have a lot of energy and fidget quite a bit. Some say it makes me look nervous, but it's just me needing to be moving, at least a little. My body has changed metabolism-wise a little in the last year or so (I am 32 years old) and now I watch a little closer how much saturated fat I eat. No diet really, just eating less saturated fat because I'm now paying attention to it.
Currently I work one night a week and go out line dancing (and know about 17 or 18 of the dances) one night a week, sometimes two. Very aerobic, line dancing can be.
I've never ever worked out in a gym. But most people don't believe me anyway. *sigh*

This might be a mean sounding question, but it is just out of curiosity.
I have been to a few clubs and the range of body types can vary widely. I have seen the ultimate in hard body all the way to somewhat fat. Obviously being able to project sexiness contributes to the financial reward for a girl, but how much does body type contribute or does a girl with a less appealing body able to make up for it with personality?

There's a market for everything, and I do mean everything. Men prefer all different body types which is why you've seen such a wide array. Much of being a dancer is interacting with people, but since opinions vary so much on what is attractive to have a club with only one type of girl would not be as profitable.
There is no "standard" of beauty. It'll sound cheesy, but I think all women are beautiful, regardless.

I did better when I was, by my own standards, a little fat. I think I fit the whole soccer mom gone bad image really, really well, and I ran with it. Now, it seems like since I've firmed up I'm directly competing with more girls than I used to be which makes it more difficult to stand out.
I think the percentage of dancers who are into fitness is about the same as that of the general population. I'm a complete and utter gym rat and have been pretty hardcore for about a year now. I don't meet very many other dancers like that. Many of them who do watch their weight seem to do it through diet.
