My vote goes for Dancing at the Blue Iguana
My vote goes for Dancing at the Blue Iguana

Probably none of you were around or old enough when this came out, but my first and all time favorite strip scene was in "Anyone Can Play" aka "Le Dolci Signore". I saw it in 1968, when I was 17. I was never the same afterwards.
Unfortunately, the film was never made into DVD. You can see a couple of pictures here:
http://marisa-mell.blogspot.com/2008...den-girls.html
You have to scroll down about 1/3 of the way.
I also liked Britt Ekland's performance in "The Night They Raided Minski's", also from 1968.
Both movies had more tease than nudity, but sometimes the journey is more exciting than the destination. ;-)

If you can't win. Make the fellow in front of you break the record.

^^LOL

...the monster and the stripper (1966). If only dancers would bring back that kind of entertainment, ......sigh.
...Bitch Slap.. Bitches, Brunettes, Boobs and Bombs, .....hell yea!
"Peter, did you take Stewie to a strip-club? He smells like sweat and fear." - Lois and Stewie (Family Guy) ... "Through early morning fog I see, Visions of the things to be, The pains that are withheld for me, I realize and I can see..."

sorry, but i hate when people do that!
who the frick wants to use the search function on an opinionated fluff topic???
Plus SW is always getting new members...do you think it could be freakin possible that we want to read something new from someone new every once in a while?!?!?!?....even if its a topic that has been discussed before.
doing that was just anal....

^^exactly.

"Showgirls" was the movie that had me working at Cheetah's when I was 19. I'm being sarcastic but "showgirls" is one of my favorite movies.
comanderadama .. "she". LOL
Ms. Mia, you are of course entitled to your opinion. Although please consider that I did not make any comments such as "learn how to use search", nor did I discourage people to add additional feedback.
All I did was post some links to previous threads discussing the same or a similar topic, which I personally feel can be helpful for several reasons.
- I've already made posts in several of these old threads, and would prefer to not have to repeat those remarks. With the threads linked, others who have already posted would also be able to choose whether to post again, or simply let their last post(s) speak for themselves. Not everyone likes to repeat themselves again and again.
- As you know this site is no longer as active as it once was, and there is a lot of great feedback available in past threads from those who are no longer active.
- Other people who trip across this thread in the future by simply looking back at threads cronologically could use it as a roadmap to find similar info.
- Some new members may not have yet had the chance to read what has been posted previously, and may find something of interest (at least one previous thread I linked has been refreshed in the Lounge).
Hope that makes sense.
(Apologies for the threadjack.)

The movie I liked the best was The Center of the Universe. To me it was more true to life.
The worst in my opinion is Dancing at the Blue Iguana. Yes true to life but I lost a lot of respect for Daryl Hanna and think the movie is painful to watch and annoying.
^^^^
Thanks I'll check that out.

I hated Dancing at the Blue Iguana because it portrayed dancers as pathetic and neurotic, representing the worst stereotype about them. (The only good thing about the movie was the dancing scenes.)
I liked Closer with Natalie Portman.

The Players Club and Showgirls
Actually the dancer was the only character who wasn't neurotic. Alice (aka Jane) was the only character who didn't cheat on the person she was with or scheme to break up another relationship. Her only fault may have been to stay with Dan after she heard him proposition Anna while she was using the "loo".

I agree... The movie was full of irony... All the "respectable" people were scum... The little stripper with the scandalous past was the only honest and decent person in the movie... but, she was trampled by the "respectable" scum...
In the VIP room, she is asked: "What does your cunt taste like?"
She replies with a laugh: "Heaven."
She is asked: "Alice, tell me one thing that is the truth?"
She replies with a smile: "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off," ..., "but it's better if you do."
^^^ My favorite exchanges are when they Alice and Dan are riding the bus ...
PORTMAN: How did you end up writing obituaries?
DAN: Well, I had dreams of being a writer, but I had no voice. What am I saying? I had no talent. So I ended up in obituaries, which is the Siberia of journalism.
PORTMAN: Tell me what you do. I want to imagine you in Siberia.
(She says this in such a way that when you later learn she is a dancer, you can imagine her using this as line at work: "Tell me what you do. I want to imagine you _______." When Dan later says her euphamisim would be that she is disarming, I feel like this is partly what he's referring to.)
.
.
.
DAN: What were you doing in New York?
PORTMAN: You know.
DAN: Well, no I don't. What were you, studying?
PORTMAN: Stripping. Look at your little eyes.
(She turns and says "stripping" in such a cold matter of fact mannor. As if to say, "Here it is and I don't care what you think of it." Then before he can finish thinking of a response, she comments about his little eyes. The irony that she is completely honest about her dancing yet chooses to give him a false name, "Alice", almost seems backwards but very fitting for the movie.)
If you can't win. Make the fellow in front of you break the record.

The only time she uses her real name (which you only learn at the end when she passes through the immigration checkpoint on her way back into the U.S.) - is when she is in the SC. In the SC, Larry asks her for her name, to which she replies, "Jane Jones" (her real name). He asks her again, to which she replies, again, "Jane Jones" (her real name). Larry thinks she's lying because he's met her before under her fake name, Alice. He demands: "Alice, tell me one thing that is the truth." She replies: "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off," ..., "but it's better if you do."
Portman is so hot in that SC scene, even though their is no nudity.
