    Default sciatica

i have been in agony for 12 days. I had terrrible low back pain, did nothing about it, danced all night with it, and woke up that morning in agony. the pain shooting all the way down my leg, into my foot was like being electircuted. It would happen every few hours. I could not find comfort sitting standing, laying down. I went to chiro, I think she was making it worse. Went to ortho for muscle relaxers. Then I went to a massage therapist who incorporates alot of stretching, and does this EFT, It was positive affirmations, she told me that someone really has been getting on my nerves. So we talked about it, and she did tapping under my eyes and on top of my head to release the pain and bad feelings, as I repeated the positive affirmations. We did alot of deep breathing and stretching. I am feeling better. Her sessions were excellent, but expensive. I haven't worked in almost 2 weeks, so today, I am going to get a massage from a neighbor who happens to be a massage therapist, who is excellent in a different way, she doesn't do all those stretches and stuff, but she does a good firm massage. Anyway, I am feeling alot better, my foot is still very numb. She told me to walk around in sneakers all the time now, and to even sleep with a sneaker on that foot to keep it from flopping. It is very interesting how she said that someone has been getting on my nerves, I have not been happy at my club the past couple of months. There is alot of new bitches there adding to the drama that we already had. Alot of negative energy, gossip bullshit. So according to her, I couldn't take it anymore, but kept going in anyway but my body gave out keeping me out of there. THat is very interesting stuff. For now I am concentrating on healing. At least trying to, I think about these two bitches in particular who are probably so happy that I am not there making money. But I need to get them off my mind in order to heal and get back there, boyfriend and I broke up, so money is tight.

Im not trying to be mean or anything but I dont think its anything to do with those girls..she could say 'someone is getting on your nerves' to alot of the population and they'd be like yeah they are lol its life. I think you have hurt yourself from dancing/your heels? You could try accupunture thats meant to be really good.

Although the fact your foot has gone numb now sounds like it could be a trapped nerve. Be carfull getting a massage of someone who isnt medically trained as the massages you can get from a person who just does massage for like tension relief is quite a different thing, you sound like something is actually wrong.

Sciatica is most commonly caused by a herniated disk in your lower back. In other words, the disk pops out and compresses your sciatic nerve (major nerve which runs from your lower back down to to your leg) I've never heard of stress causing sciatica, it usually happens from incorrect heavy lifting, consistent bad posture and weak core muscles.

I know this because I suffer from it. It's fucking horrible, sometimes during a particularly bad episode, I will be unable to walk for days, have terrible pins and needles and feel like my leg is a dead weight that I'm dragging around.

Pilates is one of the best things you can do for sciatica, and most reputable doctors and physios will tell you this. By strengthening your core muscles, they act like a corset that hold your disks in place and don't let them pop out. It also helps correct the bad posture habits which often cause it in the first place.

+1 on getting massages from non-medical people. Massages are great and as a relaxation thing you don't need a medical person to do them, but for an injury like sciatica I would recommend that you only go to a physio, osteopath etc. just because the wrong movements can aggravate it. The sciatic nerve is one of the biggest nerves in your body, you don't want anyone screwing with it unless they know what they're doing!

I got sciatica about 2 years ago and I feel you about the pain! It was unbearbale and hard to describe to other people. It happened to me when I started wearing those impossibly high 7 and a half inchers and coming down really hard from pole tricks so, while stress might be partly responsible (stress of ANY kind- emotional, lack of sleep, hormonal, environmental, etc) throws your hormones and thus your homeostatic balance out of whack; there probably is also a physical component as well. My co worker (office job he was a guy of about 50) also had it and ate a lot of pineapple to help with the inflamation (fresh- canned won't really help), since you seems to be more into holistic stuff you way wanna buy some next time at the store!

u pinched a nerve, that's what sciatica is. I had it in my hips thigh calf a ankle when i was preggo which really sucked cause I couldn't take any thing. and I still get bouts of it if i sleep funny or twist wrong. it sucks . I don't know of anything that can really reverse it, but over time that nerve will get use to it new position and the pain will stop. stay off of it for a few days and take it easy. hope u feel better

thanks everyone, I have been seeing my neighbor who is a NYS licsensed massage therapist, she has been doing alot of stretching with me. I don't know when I will get back to the club. I am aiming for next weekend. This has been hell. I have alot of numbness and tingling in the foot still. I am going for an MRI, the chiropractor really wants me to. I don't know what the hell I am going to do, the chiro thinks I should kiss dancing goodbye forever.

    Sorry to hear.
I had it about ten years ago so bad that I could not get off the floor for 10 weeks. Only thing that cured it was surgery.
    Horrible pain.
    Best of luck

I go to an osteopath every 6 weeks or so for maintenance. Playing hockey twice a week, year round as I do, I get injured occasionally. My dude fixes me up in one visit every time. If I need to see him quick, I'll get on the cancellation calling list.

eta: Like you, I've tried every kind of healthcare service you can imagine....this works. They are bone and soft tissue specialists and they know what to do to fix the problem.
