I do Jillian Michaels' workouts. I started with the 30 day shred, and when I got bored of that, I branched out to her other DVDs.

The best thing about them is--they are short, intense, and EFFECTIVE. They're mostly 25 minutes or less. And if you have netflix, you can stream a lot of them.

One of the reasons I think her workouts are ideal for strippers is because she incorporates a lot of moves that build upper body strength--planks, push-ups, etc--and that has really helped me on the pole. In fact, I was away from the clubs for awhile, and I only did Jillian Michaels' workouts. When I came back and started pole dancing again, I found I was actually BETTER because I had gained upper body strength.

Anyway, that's enough raving about her.

You may also try looking in Body Business for workout tips.

^^^ I was going to suggest planks too. They are really great for your core!

I make the students in my class do a lot of "transitions". Basically squatting like you do when you dance, rotate to one side, pull up with your bottom first and then with a straight back. You can see this at:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6KnUW9N3Zo
Skip to 1:09 and watch through 1:11.
I will have my students do this 50 times... and it will burn! They begin standing up, lean over with a straight back, run their hands down the legs, squat, open to the front, rotate to the opposite side, and then come up. It's a great exercise for the calves and buttocks.

Many of the stretching exercises I use come from ballet and lyrical training. You could probably take any class and learn most of them.

Also, pick up some 12 lb dumbbells and start working out with them.

Finally, I require all of my students to warm up their ankles, it's really imperative if you plan to dance in heels to warm the ankles and know how to actually walk in heels.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

^^ I agree. Both seem very shallow and egocentric, name wise.

On a workout note.... I do cardio, some weights (machines) and I also have some home work i do. I have an ab roller (love it!) and I do push ups off a balance ball. Never underestimate the power of planks, either. Always remember - the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn.

Squats, and running will defiently help. Go for a more realistic sounding name.

Body business has a lot. You could also start dancing at a lower end club which will get you in shape and give you your basic dancing and hustling skills. You said you need your stamina.... i find that when i excersise alone while not at work i also have poor stamina, but its amazing how much my stamina increases when i am getting paid .

For me, dancing at least 4 nights a week is enough to keep almost all of my body super toned. My only exception was my stomach.... i used to have a pooch. However, one of the girls taught me an awesome trick so i can take care of it on my way too and from work. Put your seat back when driving and hold yourself in regular driving position with your abs. it will burn the first few times you do it, but after a bit you wont even notice it. I wouldnt advise doing this during rush hour though until your abs are strong enough that you dont pay attention to it. After doing this for a bit, my abs look fantastic. And it doesnt take time or energy out of my busy schedule.

If you are looking to just burn calories, running is pretty much the highest you can go as far as calorie burning goes. here is a list of exercises and estimations of calories burned: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/SM00109
for whatever reason, all of the weights listed on here are fat (by dancer standards). However, i think the order would be roughly the same. Running is really high.
Rollerblading is too apparently.... maybe i should do that some time.

In general with fitness, you want to do at least 20 min of an aerobic activity to burn calories and fat and help you lose weight and do all the nice stuff aerobic activities do for your heart circulation etc. Then you want to lift weights to build muscle. More muscle increases your metabolism so therefore you burn more fat. Lifting weights probably wont help you lose pounds, but it will make you thinner if you are thick (assuming you are not going for a body building approach. You want to go for the more reps less weight approach) because muscle weighs more than fat.

If you are a member of a gym, ellipticals are nice and easy on the joints.

also, please dont choose Kouture. First off, its snobby. Second off, it doesnt even sound pretty. Third off, and most importantly, if you are going to choose a snobby name that means high fashioned, classy, and fancy by definition, at least spell it right for christs sake. Replacing the c with the k just makes it painfully tacky. I actually winced when i read that.

Hollywood is also pretentious. However, I could see it working in a few situations. 1. You were born near hollywood and are dancing in another part of the country 2. Your stage persona is the marilyn monroe old fashioned glamour type or 3. there is some special sentimental meaning or anecdote either real or invented for your stage persona. At least the word Hollywood itself sounds pretty. However, why dont you go with Holly instead? I think that would sound better.

    Good ol calestentics (sp?)

And ix-nay on both of those names - especially Hollywood. The actual part of LA that is hollywood is more like skid row with some stars on the ground. Also, continents (Asia) and countries (china) sound a lil corny too.

What about Shannon? That used to be my pso name.

Well- Hollywood blvd might be sketchy at times...but the rest of Hollywood is still a fantastic place full of well dressed people drinking in limos and going to dance clubs, rock shows and fancy restaurants. I live on the Sunset Strip and it's always kind of exciting, I see celebrities pretty often and almost everyone works in some part of the entertainment business. Theres just a cracklin' in the air

P.S. My girlfriend went by "Hollywood" for a summer but she was just doing it because I went by "California". She was blonde and had just got fake boobs and wanted to be an actress/pop star so it TOTALLY FIT. I knew a black girl named Hollywood too and she would match all of her accessories in one or two colors.

pick up heavy things and put them back down. for a real challenge, do this while wearing platform stripper heels.

build the strength and you will be pretty able to 'move to the music' and look 'toned'.

you will also be able to whip ass when needed, and it will always be needed eventually.

For workouts, running, stairmaster, elliptical, bouncing on my trampoline j/k. I switch it up, but always work hard, and do a MINIMUM of 45 min 6 days a week.

You also need to hit the weights hard. Weight training is VERY important. I tend to focus more on my upper body and core, because my choice of cardio really builds my lower body. That is just my body type, find what balances YOUR body best and stick with it.
