Hey everyone,
So I began dancing for the first time on Monday, and I've been doing really well, even on slow nights. I've been pulling in over $200 every night and feel really confident that I'm beginning to learn how things work and am developing my hustle. Last night, though, I got some of the wind taken out of my sails when the owner of the club I work at introduced me to the hair/makeup artist. He only works on friday and saturday and for $20ish you can get your hair and makeup done.
Now, I'm not the best with makeup, and generally just wear foundation, eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. My hair is chin length, very dark and naturally curly (I'm mixed), so I just let it curl up around my head of it's own free will. It's not messy or anything, but can fluctuate from "neat and tidy" to "sex hair" throughout the night (I keep an eye on it). I actually like my hair because most of the girls who work there are blond or have light brown straight hair (it is a primarily caucasian area). But, when I'm talking to this guy last night he started going on and on about how I should go buy a hair extension to make my hair longer and how I need a more dramatic look and should wear more makeup.
He is a pretty good artist with definate skill at doing makeup, etc, but I like a more playful naieve look, rather than a dramatic stage-esque appearance that he likes to create. One of the girls at work got hers done and told me that she didn't really like how spiky he made it (she tends to go for a softer look, and the one he gave her was very sharp and dramatic). He was also kinda boastful about how all the girls he "fixes" are constantly in the back rooms with customers rather than out on the floor dancing and if I bring him a hair extension and let him do my makeup he can guarantee that I'll be making $200 or more every night consistantly... but I'm doing that anyway...without hair extensions... or tons of makeup... hmmm
I know he's a "professional" and all, and getting dancers to let him decorate them is his job, but should I really take his advice and pay him to do my makeup/hair or just keep going the way I'm going? It was the first time since starting that I doubted my own sex appeal, and I had to pep-talk myself later that night to keep my spirits up enough to keep going until close. The customers I've met all say I'm beautiful and have a cute personality, so should I trust them more? Thanks ladies! I always appreciate your advice!
