Question noob hairdresser wants to strip

Hello! I don't believe I have formally said hello to all the men and women here on SW. I have been reading for months now and posting for a short time, AMAZING SITE, WONDERFUL PEOPLE, GREAT ADVICE. That sums it up ha.

I am a very new hairdresser, as in I get my first chair next tuesday, and I have been desperately wanting to start dancing. I read about it here, in dancers' auto biographies and so forth. I would be able to balance my new salon schedule with dancing. One thing that shot my spirits down was my boss. He's a workaholic, obsessed with the salon he's started, and frowns and belittles us if we show exhaustion or the need to have a life outside of our profession! When he and I talked about my new schedule I told him I was probably going to get a second job (dancing) and he was like "you're a hairdresser, why do you need another job?" He wants me fully committed to it but I have student loans, car, insurance blah blah and dancing would help! I've already got my sights set on 3 clubs in my area and the only thing stopping me is ME. But...

Is my boss right? How many of you know ppl, or are one, that balance a career as well as stripping? I'm sure the answer is alot, but I'm just looking for more advice.I would be able to handle the two jobs, I'm an extremely hard worker.

    Input please!

U r right. Unless hes giving 1001 dollar bonuses he had no right to tell you what to do because he is miserable.
    What if u had kids.

I did the multiple job thing for years and it gets exhausting. Eventually I realized that I loved dancing and teaching dance more than any other job I've ever had and finally gave up the 9 to 5. I'm so much happier now!

No one can understand your personal and financial situation more than you. If a second job is what you want, then go for it.

But, as Kylea2 said a second job can get exhausting. i worked full time at a bank call center and danced part time, it was hard but it was worth it financially. I always told myself that the 9-5 job came first, it had more stability and benefits that I could not get from dancing, if it got to be too much, the dancing would have to go.

My salon hours are outrageous.I'm only off sunday and monday.but wednesdays and fridays I leave early, at 6pm. The club I wanna work at has no house fee available if you're there before the shift so before 7. I think those would be ideal.

Oh i see well If where you work is in the vacinity of your home maybe you could pull off the 5 minute shower, and 10 minutes to get ready and be to the club by 6:45..
depening on where you want to work. Sundays may be good money days...Some get good money on just two niights a week..
Do you have a baby sitter?....
Maybe you should go for just the Sun n monday shifts and see how that goes..
Hopefully you can pull it off
then if its works out you could probably do the friday shift
'Tell me how it works out
    Did you audition yet?
What club do you want to work at if you dont mind me asking?

I did hair and makeup in salons/day spas for yrs while dancing at night. Salon manager sounds like just about every other one anywhere. They all want newbies to be there 101% of the time.

The thing that worries me is your time crunch. I mean very few ever leave the salon RIGHT at time off. Someone who walks in at 5:45 and wants a cut will have to be seen. There will be many times as the newbie you will expected to stay for multiple reasons. If you don't you may very well find yourself out of a job. Then you still have to get stripperfied. Some salons will let you do you your own hair and makeup at your chair some won't. Regardless, if you leave the salon looking like you are heading somewhere more important to you....well be prepared for a lot of crap to be thrown your way.

You should also be aware that fashion and dancing are female heavy industries. That means a LOT of judgment and attitude. As a newbie in both fields with 3 kiddos that's a lot a flak from all sides, every day!

Also remember that salons will require you to take continuing education classes which happen on Mondays and dance clubs may require mtgs as well during weekdays. Both are mandatory.

Please don't think I'm trying to discourage you or make you not want to do anything; I've done both and I know the snags that come.

^great points thanks so much! Unfortunately the first club I tried(the one with no house fee available) said they weren't hiring.VERY surprising as I see every week in the papers that they are hiring!!I went in looking good hair and makeup done, but the doorgirl had me fill out a weird application and told me to come back at 7.I did and the manager looked all of 20 years old and said that he had too many girls and wasn't hiring.WTF!I thanked him and smiled he said I could call back to see if they are hiring again.I went to another club and was handed the same strange application and was told hiring managers are there tuesdays from 7-2 so I am going tomorrow! I decided I could do a nightshift on sundays and mondays.it would work out.wish me luck!

If you want to do it, do it, who cares what he thinks? No he isn't right, because there is no set right or wrong for everyone. Personally, if I'm going to strip, I want that to be my only job. It's wayyyyyy too tiring and no kind of life for me to be working two jobs, let alone stripping which is emotionally and physically tiring enough on it's own +something else. But if you want to do it, go for it. Everyone is different and has different priorities and why they need to work.

i have studied and done full time jobs, i read your other post and i think you have great determination from the way you handled being rejeted, in the uk most strippers are students or have full time jobs, there are several girls at my club with new born babies, or more than 3 kids and full time jobs, i think you already know you want to do it, its a shame the clubs operate the way they do in the states with hiring practices it seems like alot of heartbreak and rejection but you will get hired and let us know how you get on x
