A part of all you earn is yours to keep. It should be not less than a tenth no matter how little you earn. It can be as much more as you can afford. - Richest Man in Babylon

It's tough out there. Everyone's just got to do the best they can.

I'm really not surprised by any of what was in the article though. I'll tell you something though.
I have a friend who is a "beauty doctor". The prices for his services are pretty much set due to the cost of his staff, insurance rates, and equipment lease costs... which haven't dropped. His business is down and now he's working 6 days a week instead of 5 because the clients that are coming in are coming in for the lower priced procedures... some of which still take a long time. So to make up for what he's losing from the lack of higher priced procedures he opened the office one more day a week and has been slammed with customers. He's still not happy though because it's more work.
By contrast I know a girl that is/was a prostitute/high end call girl. She hadn't really been making much money for the last year. She could barely get one client per day. Then she suddenly decided to switch to doing sensual body rubs, which cost less. She has been amazingly busy because her rates are now cheaper. When I say busy I mean she is bringing in like $500 per day for only a few appointments but she has more requests for work than she wants. The guys simply don't have enough money for the higher priced options like full service, but they are still willing to spend.
I guess what I am saying is that customers only have a certain amount of money to spend, and you have to figure out how to earn what you are happy with. Do you want to keep your prices the same and just extend how much time you put into working, or do you want to change your services to match the budget of the buyer.
I think both of the people above are doing the right thing by not changing the price of their services, because if you do that you cheapen the service in the long run, so once the recession is over people won't want to go back to paying the full price.
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.
