As soon as my ankle is fully healed I am back to running! I agree that it really can be addicting.

i'm so glad it's working for you! i want to run, but i'm concerned as i have chronic knee problems.... however, i do make pouty faces anytime i see those shoes you mention!
and let's face it.... running isn't a bad addiction. it keeps you in shape, raises all those fab feel good chemicals (like dopamine), and serves as a great outlet for stress. in fact, working out is a great addiction to have!
anyone notice how it's ironic how if it's bad, it's an addiction.... if it's good, it's a habit?
yes, running is the best addiction ever! I've got it too. It's also cheap therapy, much better than any therapist I've ever seen.

I agree with jenna. In fact, I wouldn't limit it to running.... Cardio is funny for me. The first 20 minutes I hate it, after that the euphoria kicks in and I just lay back and enjoy the results.... Of course, I'm still expending effort.
Man, I really gotta get back into the habit of working out a bunch. Been lazy lately. Ideally, I'd like to run, but my knees are kind of jacked up, so I'll have to be careful and get good shoes, knee support, arch support, blah blah blah.
I'm just so bored of the damn elliptical!
Oh, and I would like to say.... My therapist has actually recommended that I work out more, due to the extra chemical boost. I'm on a few meds for a few issues I have, and she told me that if I started having issues with side effects, I should work out - amazingly, it balances it out beautifully; especially helping with any insomnia or weight gain (go figure, right? not an issue, but just in case). Best dr I've had, she's also recommended going to the beach to relax with the dog anytime I get seasonal depression lol

^Off topic but referring to the previous post, a light box is the most amazing thing for seasonal depression.

Hmm...any tips on reducing stress on knees?
I think running is good but I dont think everyday.. you probably wont like this opinion but I dont think putting that much pressure on your legs/knees will be good when youre older especially stripping which already puts enough pressure on them.

Harlequin - You're absolutely right. In fact, I've had a therapist recommend tanning to me for seasonal depression. I currently live in southern California, and let me tell you.... When it gets cloudy during may and june, i'm in the tanning bed. Otherwise, I'll get my vitamin d by the ocean, lol
And Juliana - there are a few things you can do. I personally have knee problems as well; part of the issue is the fact that i have EXTREMELY flat feet. So I would suggest trying getting some supportive inserts to your shoes first off. You can also try cardio that will be lower impact on your knees, such as using the elliptical machine or biking. I'd suggest avoiding weights that put strain on your knees. However, if you're set on running, there is a brace available that holds your kneecap in place and prevents pain from occurring. I cannot remember what it's called, but it just looks like a black band that you strap on right below your knee. I've heard it helps a lot, however i do not know this for sure personally.
edit: it's a patellar tendon strap, and it basically puts pressure on your patellar tendon (which is part of your knee). This reduces inflammation and keeps your knee from giving out, i'm guessing by providing support.
All I know is I've heard good things about them from users, and a LOT of people aren't afraid to wear them here.

I just got a treadmill, and started walking 5 miles a day. At first I was super bored... but then I put a tv in front of it (mind you I RARELY watch tv) and now I LOVE it! Best of all, I can do it barefoot... which is a huge bonus for me since I hate flat shoes and prefer being in either high heels or shoeless.
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

I just went for my first run since spraining my ankle-it was fantastic! I only ran half my normal distance, walked the other b/c my ankle started to get sore, but I will def. keep it up now that I can run again!
