I struggled with the nude lip thing forever, and looked ridiculous. It looked like I just had foundation-colored lips.
Then a friend of mine who does makeup for a living told me that for many skin tones, a true "nude" will never flatter the face. Instead, she recommended a try a nude shade that has a pink base.
My lips are also very red naturally, so she also said to look for a nude pink with a hint of gray.
She actually said I should look at cheapy brands until I found a shade that looked good, then take it to MAC or Clinique and have them match it.
So I tried Rimmel's "Airy Fairy", a very matte nude pink with just a touch of gray to it.
I know it looks very pink, but it doesn't go on that way. It just looks nude and gorgeous, especially with a smokey eye. And I've tried it on all different skin tones on my friends, and it just flatters a whole range of complexions.
