did I get your attention?

A recall has been issued for Zicam nasal gels. The FDA warns that the active ingredient, zinc gluconate, has been linked to temporary or permanant loss of smell. Over 130 reports of this happening are recorded by the FDA.
However.... I'm glad to say, this is limited to Zicam NASAL gels and swabs, which I am fiercely opposed to.... I had a bad reaction to it the first time I used it, and threw the bottle away. I'm personally a big fan of Zicam, in fact I am quite fond of suggesting it as a remedy for a cold. However, those are the quick dissolve tablets.
These 3 products make up for 40% of sales of Zicam (owned by Matrixx Initiatives). Although Matrixx advertises that they have never lost a court case on their website, they fail to mention the hundreds of lawsuits that they have settled out of court in connection to Zicam. The FDA has requested that Matrixx turn over copies of over 800 complaints linked to lost smell.
The 130 reports that were recieved by the FDA came entirely from physicians and patients, not the manufacturer.
So everyone, we all know being stuffed up sucks, but would you rather not be able to smell anything? Like my title says, be careful what you put up your nose!
