    Default Playing with unemployment numbers

Some wonderful logic I ran across on the internet:

If you have 10 people and none of them have jobs, you have 100% unemployment. If you then bring in 90 people with jobs and keep the 10 people with no jobs, you have 100 people and only 10% unemployment.
See? Bringing in people and giving them jobs does help local unemployment.

    (H-1B and other guest workers)

Things are probably worse for citizens than one knows.

^^^ it's even easier than that. If you have 10 people and none of them have found jobs for 66 weeks (i.e. the point where state plus federal unemployment insurance finally expires), you have 0% 'official' unemployment.

aha, I found a 'rehash' of the link from last week which analyzed 'official' unemployment numbers in detail ...

(snip)"Last week, we saw Continuing Claims decrease — proof, said the green shooters, of the imminent economic recovery.

    Only, not so much:

Those of you (who can still afford the luxury of) a trusty Bloomberg will note the ‘exhaustion rate’ for jobless benefits - EXHTRATE – reveals that people are not leaving the pool of continuing unemployment claims because they are getting new jobs; Rather, they are leaving because they have exhausted their benefits.

They are now unemployed AND broke. That is hardly a green shoot . . ."(snip)

As I've explained, the U.S. Dept of Labor has numerous statistics, just one of which is the "Unemployment Rate" which just counts how many people are collecting unemployment benefits. There is also the "Household Survey" and "Employer Survey" which actually measure WORK; "new jobs created" and other indicia. None of the current stats are cause for optimism.
