    Default bruises...look if you dare!!!

I auditioned to work at the Roaring 20's in SF and was hired
I worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday
These are my battle scars haha
I look like I have a strange skin disease
Is there any way to cover up bruises?
Or better yet, is there any way to remove these bruises and prevent new ones from forming?
Thanks so much for your in put!

Oh my gosh! The ones on your back are terrible! Are you anemic by any chance?

I don't think there's really anything you can do for them (I could be wrong I'm sure some other SWebber will have a miracle cure!) I would take a muti-vitamin with high iron count of I were you.

Ah, you're like me. Super fair and tender.

Arnica is always good, I used to swear by it. I tried iron but I am not anemic so it didn't work for me and my Dr said it was unnecessary. Sally Hansen airbursh legs works well at covering them up.

I have been doing this almost seven years and I still get beat up if I do a lot of pole, or floor work. Avoiding those moves that beat you up may be your best option.

Damn! I have nothing useful to add but you MUST have been working it to end up with all those bruises.

I'm in recovery for anorexia, so I suppose that I'm still not eating enough
I am anemic, as a negative consequence to anorexia
I already take a multi vitamin
So I'm not too sure how I'm going to get more nutrients in
There is NO WAY that I'm going to start eating more
    I've already gained enough weight

Arnica gel is my lifesaver. You can get it at almost any health food store. Put it on before and after your shifts, and then during the day as well.

I am about to try Topricin, I've heard amazing things about it. Someone I know was in an attempted carjacking and got beaten pretty badly and used this all over and the bruising was gone within a day or so. You can get it at www.topricin.com

Good luck!! I remember looking like that when I started and soon you'll learn what moves give you that bruising and how to avoid them.

My knees and back are so bruised up its not even funny. I take a multivitamin and eat an egg every morning, somewhere I heard that is supposed to help. Its never hurt my money though, everyone seems to realize its because I do a very energetic stage set.

I look the same. Arnica, extra iron, a multi-vitamin, red meat (if you eat it), and pineapple juice. It won't make them stop completely, but they all will at least reduce the duration so you will stop looking as though someone beat you. You have my sympathy. I totally know how obnoxious and painful that is.

Welcome to the club, darlin! I always get bruised up. Go have a steak, the iron will help. Also realize that when you start dancing, your body is going to have to go through an adjustment period in which it learns how to deal with all those impacts (floor work, pole work, etc)

After 5 years, I still get banged up a bit. Make sure you're being fluid when you move, and don't bang yourself around. I can also see you have a fair skin tone..... It's much easier to camoflage bruises when you have some color to you. If you don't feel like tanning, I'd suggest using Jergins self tanner lotion - those dark bruises don't look nearly so bad with some color, and some of the lighter ones blend in more.

I'd also suggest drinking more water. This can help flush your system and keep you hydrated - in theory, it can also help break up the bruise and rinse it out. I've found that water is my best beauty secret.

    Good luck, hon!

Those Ensure drinks are supposed to help add protein and iron to your diet. They really helped with my bruising.
There are also ways to cushion parts of your back and legs by using your arms to balance.

The first week that I started dancing I'd get a lot of bruises in the same places as do most new dancers. Eventually your body will get use to them and they will stop appearing, at least they did for me. I occasionally get some on my hips but they are never a big deal to have to cover them up. Most of the time it's too dark in the club to even see them.

I'd eat more and try to get more iron in your system like everyone stated.

I have anemia also and am supposed to take an over the counter iron supplement. If I were you I would go to the pharmacist and ask their advice (you can tell them you got the bruises from playing flag football or something if you are embarrased). If they recommend an iron supplement, the store brand is really cheap.

The really bad ones will benefit from an ice pack! Next time you get in from work and you can feel one brewing, whack some ice on it for up to 20 mins. It will reduce the amount it comes up by the next day. (sometimes you may need to repeat!)

^tanning has helped me a lot

my bruises are about the same as yours, all over my knees, thighs, hips, and arms. i cover up my legs with stockings and leg warmers so you cant really see them, and the leg warmes help a lot with decreasing the bruising. . i've tried icing them every night and it hasnt done anything but tanning does help cover them up.

i'm vegan and so anemic so im hoping arnica and iron supplement will help...

I used to be optimistic and think that one day my body would get used to it and I would stop bruising. Not so!! I've become much more careful, but when I get a real doozy I use Dermablend. I wouldn't recommend putting it in places that come in contact with the pole on a regular basis- like behind your knee etc depending on what you do--but I've never had a problem with it rubbing off. First I put on the make-up, then I Aquanet it followed by regular face powder over the top to blend it.

    OR.

I once developed a really dark bruise on the top of my butt cheek that looked like a heart, and there was no way in hell I could cover this thing adequately...so I drew over it with black waterproof liquid eyeliner to accentuate the shape and told everyone I got a new tattoo. AND THEY BELIEVED ME!!! muahaha

I occasionally do this with face pimples. A heavy dose of concelear and a light dab of eyeliner. Viola! Cindy Crawford!

"Traumeel" works wonders, both oral drops and topical gel. Avoid banging up the same spots while it heals, and learn to modify your movement so you are not directly on your knees. IMO. Dermablend is great cover up, doesn't wear off quickly.

I second this! Both are awesome, I use them regularly.

Also, when you first get home you can wrap the bruises in a poultice of loose tobacco and water. Mash up the tobacco with water until you get a sort of 'paste'. Then apply to the area and wrap in a clean cloth. It works better the sooner you apply it. Done correctly the bruises will not even form. Downside is you smell like tobacco and because it is loose it can leak out leaving a mess in your bed. But zero soreness or weird looking skin

Fortunately I don't bruise as much anymore. I had them worse than you believe it or not. To the point where I was being accused by people of it being from something else. For as bad as they looked they really didn't hurt that bad. I didn't understand why I was bruising so bad until I had an OMG DUH moment. About 3 months before I started pole dancing I had had a serious hemorrhage and blood transfusion. I just didn't even think about it because I had had good iron levels right before and just forgot that I probably lost major iron.

Arnica, Tanning, and Dermablend for the win.
