I think they tend to do less pole work.

when i worked at a dive i used the booty shake a lot. This is very out of place at a gown club. Occasional 'ass clapping' move is about it.

There is less pole work. However, if you do your pole work very sensually and gracefully, you can stand out in a good way. I have a few moves that i do perfectly, and i keep it as slow and sensual as the rest of my dance and it helps me make money. However, there is one girl who does a crazy amount of pole tricks but doesnt bother to add finesse to them and it is out of place and kind of scares the customers. They are impressed by it, but they kind of gawk at her like she is a circus freak as opposed to finding it sexy and wanting her to dance for them.

    That's very well put Athena.

In my experience the gown clubs prefer that the girls do not do nude pole work or floorwork and tend to frown upon pole-ympic stlye tricks but a graceful twirling type of trick would be more than ok!

    ^^^ yes, +1 for Athena.

High end clubs the entertainers tend to actually dance less, the moves are based a lot more on posing for a few seconds at a time. Often the entertainers at the high end clubs are selling the ability to "hang out" with them in the VIP or CR rather than doing lap dances. I actually started at a Cheers like GC/SJ and the booty shake was very popular. Now however, I wouldn't be caught dead doing it other than teaching it to students who want to know.

I was lost when I went to a gown club. My solution was take burlesque lessons for a month or so. I learned more pose/dance moves and learned to really rock it. I also got a lot of tips for 'finishing' ie hand placement, head tilt, etc. I really pissed off several girls who had been there for a long while and made super good money. As a bonus I can rock the tassels too which is a great party trick.
