Question How many girls is too many?

Due to the economy (ugh, I HATE using that excuse, especially hearing it) girls are working more shifts, and sometimes I feel that there's too many of us on at once. I'd say 15-20 Sun-Thu, and 25-28 on Fri and Sat. We only have one shift: Sun-Thu 7pm-2am and Fri & Sat 7pm-3am.

Our club is medium-sized...upscale...full-kitchen...2 bars...bottle service...upper and lower VIP. I've just been there 4 months, so I missed the "salad days" when everybody was making big $$...I was working for an agency that had a circuit of neighborhood-type places...now the agency is no longer.

Anyway, because of the state of things, more girls are working more shifts because we're not allowed to work anywhere else. It is a very nice place to work, and they treat us well (sometimes when things are rough for all they waive or discount the house fee...we get $17 for every $20 in funny money...and you can tip out what you can to mgmt and the DJ).

I know the club has to make money as well...admission is $10 with a 2 drink minimum (cocktails are about $10)...so I think they're not putting a cap on the amount of girls 'cuz it's more $$ for them in house fees.

When my co-workers and I are waiting for the custies to come in, we've been noticing that the dancer-to-custie ratio is way off...too many girls! And it seems like every shift, some girls throw in the towel and go home. But I refuse to go, and have stuck it out every time I've worked...most times I wonder why, but I'm not a quitter.

    My question to all is...

How many is too many on a shift?

That really depends. At my club, 15 seems to be the max that we can hold in the beginning of the week... 20 on the weekends.

A lot of girls have been coming in more.. .also because of the economy.

Having too few girls sucks too though... not only are you on stage every half hr but it also dissapoints the customers. Even if they are focused on you... they like to see a fair amount of girls there.

I think it's a ratio thing. You certainly don't want too few girls, because guys will get up and leave, but after a certain ratio (like 2 customers to every dancer or less) there's no hope.

At my club during "busy" shifts, such as weekend nights, we can have as many to 3 or 4 girls per guys, its ridiculous. Our club doesnt have schedules at all so girls just flood in when they think the money is easiest and at the very least we'll have 100+ girls working at one time. My club is a huge club, but the problem is that the place fills with cheap guys and college kids, leaving the good customers to be attacked by girl after girl

Usually there is about 35-40 girls on the weekend for my club. It's a lot considering the size of the club and the customer ratio but I don't let it effect my money. I can work with a lot of girls and still end up making bank so I don't see the issue with an abundance of girls.

Sometimes I don't even know how many are there--I'm busy making money not looking for girls

It depends on how the girls work with each other too. I've worked a mega-clubs with a hundred girls per shit who don't really get too bitchy over customers, even when it's kinda slow. I've also worked at a club with seven girls that would stab each other with their heels over customers.

If you think that there ar too many girls though, maybe you should try to work more of the "slower" days and see if that helps.

Yeah, I have been toying with my schedule, but I'm limited during the week because I have class until 8:30 or 9:15 in the PM, and they won't let me work...have to be there by 7!

I'm gonna book myself at a club 2 hours out of the city, one or two days a week, so I don't think that'll be a problem for the no-compete part of my contract. Plus, I'm not gonna say anything.

I've worked at this out of town place before and made good $...and I'll only be working with 4 or 5 others girls...and it'll be nice to go back to my 'dive bar roots'.

If all else fails, I've considered being a PSO...been doing research on it from this site. I worked peep shows years ago, so I definetely know what I'm in for. I wouldn't do it to take the place of dancing...just as extra income.

Thanks for the replies so far!

I've worked at dive bars and high end bars. At Sapphire, you'd get up to 300+ girls working a shift.... I get antsy now in my smaller club when there's about 35+ girls working. If I get there at 8, and I can't get a locker, then my mood gets a lil funky.... However, the bar capacity here is under 175 people.

I definately think it should be a proportion thing. It's good to have variety, but you don't want too many girls. It's also a bad thing to have too few girls, customers will leave because of an excess or lack of girls.

What really bugs me is when there aren't that many customers, and a girl sits and wastes time with a guy.... Especially if they aren't getting money from him, and basically just sitting and drinking for free. I've been this girl before, and now that I know better, I just want to get in there and get his money, because obviously there's something preventing her from getting it.

I've also found that if I get an earlier start, it doesn't phase me as much when there are more girls there - I've already got a head start on them, so it's up to them to catch up to me. Momentum is a beautiful thing!

When you consistently make less that $250 to $300 a night. That is when there are too many girls working.

Have you heard girl after girl after girl -- "I've been here 4-5 days in a row and I've only made $200-$300!"

Most girls are making more on their bad nights than they have all week.

I work at a fairly small club in upstate NY, really close to Saratoga, and at my club, 5-8 is normal on weeknights, and around 15-20 on the weekends--and usually 20 ends up being way too many. The past few weeks have been especially bad--we've had 13 or 14 girls show up for a Tuesday or Wednesday shift, when there were only 7 or 8 scheduled--and the club wouldn't really send anyone home. Part of that is due to the fact that because the manager is rarely at the club on any weeknight, it falls to the DJ to send girls home, and lots of the DJs are kind of wusses about it and are afraid the girl in question will get mad, so they let it go. Of course, I'm sure that the fact that the DJs are really the only ones who get the house fee contributes to their decision. They don't care how much we're making, because the more girls, the more they make.

The club is also consistently hiring more and more girls--girls who can't dance and don't have an attractive face OR body. A lot of the dancers are starting to get really up in arms about it--we already have too many girls, why are they hiring more?

Last week, I worked Tuesday and Wednesday night. Made less than $100 each night. On Tuesday, we had a total of 13 girls show up. The shift is 8-2. There were two girls who were there by 7:45 but didn't actually get ready and come downstairs till 10:30. Two girls, who are consistently late but are supposed to be in by 9:00, came strolling in at 10:30. There were maybe 15 customers that came in the whole night. If that. Finally, one of the head girls there, the one who is usually assigned as shift supervisor on the weekend, came in and sent people packing. And everyone who wasn't scheduled or came in late pitched a fit about being sent home.

It really gets on my nerves. Those two girls that always come walking in at like 10:30 will freak if they get sent home. They don't call if they're going to be late. They just show up, and when they get sent home, they freak about how they're always late because they have kids and the club doesn't respect that, etc. Seriously, wtf? If they had a regular job, that sure as hell wouldn't fly. They'd get fired within a few days if they were consistently coming in to work several hours late, and getting pissy about it and bringing up the kid card.

I mean, some people should count their blessings. This is a phenomenal job. Even on the bad nights, you're still probably making more than most places pay hourly. At my club, we're all off the books, so there's no taxes taken out. We have the freedom to create our own schedule, and if we can't come in or don't want to come in, all we have to do is call and say we won't be there, and it's no problem. Maybe that's just my club, but that sounds like a pretty fucking good deal.

Didn't work tonight (Tue), but talked to a co-worker...she walked with a little over $200...only due to the fact that the owner hooked her up with a custie who got an hourly--$250 in dance dollars. Before that (four hours into the shift) she only had $20.

Unfortunately, our club has no pole, and we can only have one knee down on the stage, so 99% of our $ comes from dances or hourlies.

I tell ya, it's all about being in the right place at the right time.

See, I average around 300 a night in good economic times, so I have to disagree.

I'm not the best hustler, so this could explain it...... However, for me a bad day is leaving with under $100 after tipout. When I lived in Detroit, my tipout was $140, and there were many days that I left with less than 100 take home.....

A good night nowadays for me is around $300 take home.

I also agree, if you have girls working that are complaining about only making $2-300 in 4 or 5 days, wow. That, i think, means it's time for you to find a new job or club.

It all comes down to sales. If you're good at it, or even get that one guy... It makes all the difference.

based on observing customer reactions in hundreds of clubs, with all sorts of different 'business models', I have to at least partially agree with callista. For dancers who have 'outstanding' physical attributes ( which allows them to stand out / draw attention no matter how crowded the club is) and for dancers that have 'outstanding' sales skills, having 10 or 20 or 50 or 100 other dancers in the club really isn't a factor.

However, for most dancers in most clubs, when the ratio of dancers working versus hourly club customer turnover rises above 0.5 ( = 2 new customers per dancer per hour) dancer earnings begin to suffer in a major way. Once that ratio rises above 1.0 ( = 1 new customer per dancer per hour) dancer earings turn disastrously bad - anxiety can be felt by customers etc.

I hate to say it, but when its really slow, sometimes its necessary to talk to the customer for a long time. The customer takes note that it is slow and the sense of urgency is gone, so often it takes a few more songs to warm them up to the idea of spending money than if they saw that you were busy. I guess if a girl makes her money or fails at making the sale and then proceeds to just take up space in the seat, then that is no good. But sometimes the girls sitting for a long time might be putting in that time to try to sell a room. If its a slow night and i put in 20-30 min talking to one customer and it results in him buying an hour VIP room, then it was well worth the time as well as fair game IMO.

Usually if its too many girls i approach the guys a lot sooner than normal. Normally you want to give the guy time to chill. However, when the ratio is not in my favor, I wait for him to order his drink then approach him. Often at this time if you dont make a good first impression they will tell you they need more time. Therefore, I walk up to the customer with something interesting to say to him in my head before I even say hi. Then i greet him with my biggest friendliest smile, say hi, and begin the interesting conversation then ask to sit down. By the time I ask to sit down the conversation feels natural and he doesnt feel like he is being jumped on as soon as he walks in the door, even if in reality he really is. It took some practice before i could pull this off, but im pretty good at it now. This skill can help you make a lot more money on days when there are more dancers than customers.

I absolutely agree; I'm the same way. I tend to talk to custys for too long. However, I'm referring to a girl that sits there for two, three hours without getting a dime, only drinks. That's what makes me mad, especially when I know I could at least try to make money off him.

I agree on the slow talking to customers. If it's busy you can get up and go talk to another customer if they're giving you the "maybe.... maybe later... hmmm" bullshit and then they see they do have to pay for your time. There's nothing lamer than leaving to go sit by yourself because theres no one else to talk to! haha. I think guys also see they have a bit of the upper hand because they know all the girls are hoping to get a dance from them.

That said, it pisses me off when girls dont leave the customer when theres like 2 and 10 girls and a special is called. Obviously sometimes you have to hang around for a bit longer than just asking, but I see some girls just sit through the whole period the special is being called and not even bring it up because theyre hoping for single dances or a VIP soon.

I can't give you a number that indicates how many is too many but I've always felt that there are too many girls when they outnumber the customers.

im used to the number of girls outnumbering the guys. however it seems like lately for every one guy there is 5 or 6 girls. and thats when it picks up, during the slow part of the shift its more like 15 girls to a guy. and it seems that the less the girls make becuase of too many girls, the more days they work, keeping the problem going.
