Default Going for it. . . this time!

Couple of weeks ago I chickened out of doing an amateur contest to get a waitress job at a club. Since then I have decided to quite my current job as a casino cocktail waitress. Largely because it has been just so slow and I am not making any money. Plus I have decided to go back to college and finish my degree. A friend of mine I was working with got a job there as a dancer and she claims that she makes 4-6 hundred a night.

I think I will quite my current job and do the contest in like 2-3 weeks or so. Workout heavily and work on my tan before I go. She said she could get me the job but I have to do the contest; I guess that is how they screen the girls. Also I need to work on my confidence and nerves. I did some dance and gymnastic stuff during high school but that was a while ago.

I am still not sure about getting a job as a dancer, I have been pushing my resume out now for like 8 months for any type of office job; which is why I am going back to college. I just don't see a better option at this point.

It sounds like you feel ambivalent about becoming a dancer. Don't quit your waitressing job until you are sure that 1. Dancing is something you enjoy and 2. You're making enough money dancing to cover your expenses.

And also, don't set your expectations too high. You said casinos are slow lately--well, so are strip clubs. $400-$600 a night is awesome, but I haven't been doing that well, and neither have a lot of other girls.

I'd agree--right now isn't a good time to be starting as a dancer unless you're extremely enthusiastic or desperate for every cent you might earn. I'm seeing newbies leave with $75 a night right now. It depends on your club to some extent, but no one is doing that well these days (or very few, anyway). I'm still doing well, but only because I had 2 years of experience prior to the recession's impact.

Tons and tons of girls like you are crowding the market currently. We have sooo many new girls....it isn't even funny. More girls are working, fewer customers are coming....

But hey...if you think you might be able to make some money off of it, and if it's worth your time, I suppose you may as well go for it! Just don't set your expectations too high. (Sorry if this is a downer post...I would be much more encouraging if it seemed you had your heart set on this job.)

I guess the smart thing would be to stick with my current job for the mean time. I am just so tired of the place, I could complain about the uniforms but if I am thinking of moving into dancing would not be right; if I am going to show off that much cleavage I may as well be topless. I just want something new and exciting and if I am going to be a stripper sometime in my life its now.

My friend said the club is doing some big amateur contest next weekend for the fourth I think I will try that. If anything I will find out if I can get up in front of a lot of people and strip. Any advise I can do to prepare or get comfortable for that situation short of having a few drinks before hand. I took the next week from work off anyways. Had some vacation to use thought this would be a good time with it being the holiday week.

I know tons of strippers who are trying to get jobs as casino cocktail waitresses!
Can you do both? Why not start stripping before you quit to see if you like it....$400-600 in the summertime is what a seasoned dancer will bring in consistently with regular customers, but don't expect to make that right away.

Definitely keep your casino job for now, if anything you could use it as advisement. You said it yourself you show off a lot of cleavage, if you see guy looking at you tell them they can see more of you at he club, its what I would do. Also you would not still be thinking about if you did not want to strip so just do it already and find out if its for you. Don't worry if your not that good dancing at first no one is. Just work on your confidence, I am sure you can think of several things that could help. For me there is nothing better then lounging at my apartments pool while wearing a barely exceptable string bikini to boost my confidence, plus I hate tan line.
