    Default weight loss!

A few years ago, I was prescribed a prescription that made me hungry and sedated all the time (thank you, dr dipshit). I ended up going from 125 to 163, and I'm very proud to announce that today I've nearly reached the 20 lb weight loss mark. After a medication change and a good hard look in the mirror, I've really turned things around.

I feel great, and I think I look great! I'm not tiny still, but I'm a healthy 144 lbs at 5'6, and I really think that being heavier has given me a great perspective on how I look and feel - I might feel bloated, but at least I'm not that big anymore!

I'm also very proud to say that I went at a very healthy rate with my weight loss. I really topped out in August of last year. I started working a new job in retail, and I had to get clothes - I ended up not fitting into most of them, which was very traumatic for me. I began working out and watching what I ate, and after 10 months I'm almost a full 20 lbs down.

My biggest issue I had to deal with was my diet. I've had to change it a LOT, and I also had to majorly cut down my drinking (not a bad thing, i really drank too much). I also had to become more active - even if I don't work out, I can't just sit at home being lazy as hell.

Have you lost a fair amount of weight? How did you lose it, and how long did it take? What was your biggest struggle?

I lost the first 30 lbs or so by simple cutting out most of the alcohol and any junkfood. Then I kind of got stuck at that weight so I stopped eating pretty much anything that isn't a fruit or veggie or fish or chicken. It's kind of hard because I loooove cheese and carbs, but if I were in Hollywood no one would think this was crazy. I also saw something on PBS (after I had started this) that this diet actually reduces inflammatory response in the body and can reduce wrinkling later in life.
I only drink water and maybe the occasional glass of juice. I've been working out about two hours a day and now I look a hell of a lot thinner but the scale isn't budging so quickly (probably because I' building muscle), I still need to lose about what it says on my ticker but I'll take a larger number on the scale and a smaller pants size any day!

ooooooooh eating late is a big one! that's a HUGE diet killer right there.

and i feel ya on the meds thing, the ones i'm on now have helped with that. in fact, my concerta has made me focus to the point that i'm not drinking as much at work, which helped speed the weight loss up.... plus it made the dj very happy, since i went from being a spaz to a very mellow chick.

Eating junk food after a late night of drinking was my problem. I gained 15 lbs, which wasn't too bad (it added 2 cup sizes, which I didn't mind!) - but the teensy pooch belly was my cue to clean up my diet.

First I stopped eating fried foods. Instead of deep fried potatoes with all the salt, I baked sliced sweet potatoes dusted with either cinnamon, pepper or vinegar. Way healthier!

Eating 5 small balanced meals & snacks throughout the day (about every 3 hrs), prevented that 'starving' feeling and pigging out on junk food later on.

Be sure to get adequate protein, fiber, fruits, veggies & whole grains. I took a calcium supplement and a multivitamin. Bananas w/almond butter, brown rice, steamed veggies w/lemon juice, lean protein sources & fresh fruit/vegetable juices spiked w/ginger were simple and easy to prepare.

I also set a time that I wouldn't eat past (8pm), drank TONS of green tea & sparkling mineral/plain water (adding lemon juice helps!) and significantly increased my cardio/strength training/core workouts. If I was craving something 'bad' (damn you chocolate cake!) I had a slice - but I forced myself to pay for it in the gym, which REALLY made me think twice about being bad again, lol

As for the alcohol, I cut back on the mixers (juice, soda, blender drinks) and filled up on sparkling mineral/plain water. Bye bye extra sugar and empty calories!

Everything in moderation. It took me 2 months to lose the weight & I've kept it off for a year. To reward myself, I went shopping as soon as I reached my goal. Some people tape skinny pics on the fridge for motivation... I had pictures of two-piece bikinis & Dolce bags!

Yes I lost a whole person. I went from 300 lbs(Cancer treatment and a 7 month bed rest pregnancy..egads) to dancing at christies downtown cleveland in 3 years. Slightly over 150 pound weight loss. With slow weight loss the skin has time to shrink, and thanks to good genetics, I had/have relatively few stretch marks.

jump rope for 5 minutes every morning, it burns 100 calories, bumps your metabolism for the whole day, and it helps prevent hip fractures lator in life.
My last weight loss I added pineapple to my diet. I would go through up to 5 pineapples a week, it really boosts your weight loss, and helps stabalize positive hormones in brain.
I focused in on negative calorie foods for my late night urges, cucomber slices, water mellon(great if your prone to bruises), celery strips, and lightly boiled carrots with 0 cal butter spray. Add a teaspoon of peanut butter, or a piece of cheese for protean to help keep yourself full. Most late night hungers are caused by lack of protean in the day.
I found the best way for myself to lose weight was to focus on slow movements throughout the whole day. I also stopped driving in the car to get to the stores in the area. If the grocery store is only a mile away, why do we drive? How much crap do we need in our homes? Get a book bag and foot it.
Walk away the pounds with lesly sansone was also really good for getting myself moving for an hour when I didn't want to think about moving.
The final thing for me was to get my tummy tight. I learned that it wasn't my tummy, but hip flexors that were out of shape. Toning my hip flexors got my tummy, and made the spot for the birdie to fly through between my thighs.
MY goodness, I can not wait to do it again...I hate being big..I'm a whale right now...The kid in me weighs over 7 pounds now.
Good job with the weight loss!

OMG man! the hell with me, congrats to you! 150 is a HUGE amount! you really touched on a bunch of pointers here, and i'm glad to say that I've done quite a few things you mentioned (i work a mile away from my day job, so i've been known to hoof it)

man, don't say you feel like a whale! you've lost 150 lbs! that's amazing! i'm really proud of you! i was proud of my lil' 20 lbs, but that really pales in comparison to you! it was really hard to lose 20 lbs, and I can only imagine how rough it was to hit that 150 mark. You really should be proud of yourself, man. You have my major props.

OK, update time! So I gained about 3 lbs back. Ooops! However, I really feel great! At my day job, I ended up going down a size when I got a new skirt.... I'm really proud of myself! I've also started toning more, and watching what I eat better. I'm also much, much, MUCH happier. My boyfriend is also happier as a result, lol....... My sex drive has gone up, and I love walking around in skimpier clothes. I also feel sooooooo much more confident at work. Even at my day job, people have noticed that I've lost weight.... I love it!

In all honesty, I'm glad I gained the weight. When I weighed 130, I still felt like I was fat. I realize now that I had an eating disorder. I really don't think i'd be as comfortable and happy with my body now if I hadn't gained all that weight. I view it as a blessing in disguise.

I have a ton of customers telling me now I don't need to lose weight, and I just laugh.... I tell them I lost 20 lbs, and they're shocked. In all honestly, I love how I look now. I'm naturally pear shaped, I will never hate my hips now - they're never going to go away, lol! I really think me gaining and losing weigh was the best thing that could have happened to me. I'm like a whole new person, and I love it.

I'm really glad to hear about all of your guys' successes! Good job! I'm proud of you too!
