Default An Opinion of Age 18 or 21 to Dance?

Well I read this article in AJC Atlanta paper today that just pissed me off to know end written by a conservative from Sandy Springs. Needless to say he is very anti-dancer.

Read my blog, listed below about my response to his wonderful article/opinion. I have also attahced the link to his article here so you can respond to him directly.

...a 20 yr old SW pinkie should show up as a strippergram while his radio show is on the air.

That guy is a loser and trying for that "shock jock" angle. I just found out that you also need to be 21 to dance in one of (or both of?) the Carolinas. While I was 20 when I started dancing and admittedly was a tad immature, I think an 18 year olds should be able to dance. I have also known gals that were 18 seniors in HS and dancing (which I don't like) but shit, some 18 yr olds I knew had 2 kids already!!!!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a big fan of teeny boppers in the club, as long as she isn't drinking what is the big deal??

Personally, I don't think all 18 year old can handle the consequences of dancing at that age. Some can, but many others can't. I know I wouldn't have been able to handle it at the age of 18. I remember how I was at 18 and I was very immature. I wasn't alone either. I started dancing at 21 and by then I had some maturity. When I hired dancers I made sure all were 21. Off topic, but I think other things need to ages raised, such as military, and possibly driving.

I started dancing at 18. IMO, it's all a maturity thing.

i think we can all agree that stripping isn't for everyone. i know some girls who are close to 25 and just can't handle the pressure that dancing puts on someone. you can't put an age limit on people, because everyone matures at a different rate.

it drives me crazy that girls younger than 13 are allowed to keep their babies, yet i'm being told to GTFO of the club because i'm not old enough to drink, and therefore am not yet a "grown ass woman"

18 year old men are considered old enough to handle the consequences of being drafted and sent off to war.

As far as here in NC, I believe it is 18. SC does have some really different laws, including the fact that (unless it's changed in the last couple years) you can drink while working legally (you are not supposed to here in NC). That's probably why they won't hire under 21 there. And that's also, in a flip side, why it's actually political gold for NC to allow under 21's to be hired - now the local ALE (alcohol law enforcement) can raid and fine a club and dancers for underage drinking. It gives lawmakers/politicians a good excuse to close down clubs or regulate them into oblivion. Of course, they also check to see if regular of-age dancers have been drinking. It's a bitch sometimes.

I really, personally think it should be 21 just to make it easier across the board for everyone, but that's just MHO. I started about 5 1/2 months shy of my 21st; it would not have been the end of the world for me to wait. But my experience is just my experience.

18 yr olds are legally adults, and i believe they should (legally) be allowed to strip. However, I also believe they should be allowed to drink etc...

Is it a good idea? Thats debatable. I started dancing at 20. I am trying to think of what i would be like now if i started dancing at 18. I was a fairly stable 18 yr old and certainly not naive... I had moved out of my parents house right after i turned 17 so i was fairly mature for an 18 yr old . However, im not sure if the results would have been pretty. Dancing was a real eye opener for me as to how fucked up people really are. I matured a lot between the ages of 18 and 20... when i was 18 i felt like i needed to be in a relationship and was not very secure being on my own. By the time i started dancing i was over this... I think that anyone who feels like they need a relationship to be happy and secure is a bad candidate for dancing. To be honest, i think i would have been likely to try to find a boyfriend in the club if i started at 18, whihc probably would have been BAD. So for me im glad i waited. Also, it seems like a fair amount of dancers i know who started right after they turned 18 ended up with mental complexes. The cause? maybe dancing, maybe other stuff too. Im no shrink.

There is something that doesnt sit well with me about girls still in high school dancing. I feel like old guys groping at high school girls is fucked up. My club wont hire girls still in high school and i think this is a good thing.

But I dont doubt that some girls are ok to dance at 18. Some might have to for financial reasons and even if its not the best option mentally, if they are an 18 yr old single mom the financial benifits of dancing likely outweigh the negative effects. Therefore, i think the option for 18 yr olds to dance should be open legally.

Actually, I don't support that either. I don't support drafts to begin with, nor do I support the military recruiting at 17. The fact is many 18 year olds (and to be fair even older) can't handle the military let alone war.

The reason the drinking age was dropped from 21 to 18 in many states was because of the fact men that age were getting drafted and dying. Not letting them drink seemed petty at the time. Of course times have changed along with the drinking age.

im 18 and i recently started dancing. before i graduated. i had alot of problems with people in school finding out, and being ridiculously awful to me. i agree that is all about maturity, and not taking it personally.

i think legal age for hiring dancers should be 18. it just makes sense that way. 18 is a legal adult. its the law.

but i wish it was 21. of course maturity is an issue. but you know damn well that out of every 1 mature 18 year old that walks in, about 10 more immature ones are right behind her.

i started dancing when i was 18-19... i look back now and can say i was more mature then, than most grown women. i'm 22 now and even though i was mature at 18, i'm noticing and wishing now i didnt start so young. it changed me for the worse. at 18 i was this excited bright eyed money making machine that loved my job. and now i feel like the world is such a dirty and ugly place and feel that i ruined a lot of my hope and outlook on life and have become a dirty used up rag. =/ emo much? lol

Thank You. And just because we send them over there does not mean they are really ready. Some 18 yr. olds are wise beyond their years, some 28 year olds act 12. But no club is going to enact a maturity test before you get hired, it's all about looks and everybody knows that/ I have seen underage girls in clubs a few times.

All men when they become 18, in high school or not, must register for the draft to this very day.

Not totally legal, in the US of A they can not purchase alcohol; in New Jersey they can not purchase tobacco.

If I were an 18 year old man I would sue because I was required to register for war but denied the rights of an adult.

I am just pointing out the fickle nature of what the powers that be consider an adult. One is an adult when 18 for most things like marriage and entering into a contract but a child in others like purchasing alcohol or tobacco. In New Jersey a person is a child until 24 for child support if they are in school.

The human brain does not reach full maturity until the age of 25; auto insurance companies know this. Should we all be considered children until we reach the age of 25?

That most definitely was not the case for at least some time after the last draft ended. I walked down to the town hall when I turned 18 back in 1975 to do my civic duty by registering to vote and for the draft. The clerk told me that I no longer had to register for the draft so I registered to vote and left. I know that registration is mandatory now and has been for many years but it was not always the case regardless of what ask.com and a few other sites on the internet have to say about it.

Regardless there is really no comparison to a woman walking into a strip club of her own free will and applying for a job to dance naked and an 18 year old boy getting his draft notice. One is voluntary, the other is not.

Irregardless of splitting hairs over draft or degree of being voluntary, a lot of 18-20 year olds voluntarily joined, and currently serve in the military. Personnel < 21 are entrusted/ tasked with a lot, be it a plane captain/crew chief who "owns" a multimillion $$ aircraft, a helmsman steering a $1B, 100,000 ton aircraft carrier, etc. Those figures don't account for many be called upon to make the sacrifice of laying ones life on the line for their country. Thus, I agree with some prior posters that its hypocritical to ask one to put their life on the line for their country, yet not legally serve them an alcoholic drink. I don't kid myself into thinking that a lot of 18 year olds don't have some maturity development still left to go, but there are some adults that have problems handling alcohol. Then, consider that an 18 yr. old can be required to serve on a jury. He/she just might be the one to make the call on ones guilt, or innocence.

I don't really have an opinion on changing the law, because there are so many factors at play and personally sociology bores me to tears. However, I think anyone who actually thinks most 18 year olds are mature adults is off their rocker.

Maturity is a slow process that doesn't even begin to level off until your mid 20's in my experience (& according to what I hear from my friends).

***Before I get jumped on, although most people considered me very mature for my age, I didn't think of myself as a mature adult at that age. I have yet to meet an 18 year old that I consider to be even somewhat mature & responsible.

It's hard to tell with all those arrows who's post you are commenting on but just for the record eighteen year old recruits don't get to be crew chiefs or take the helm of an aircraft carrier. Skill positions are no different in the armed forces than they are in the civvie world. A certain level of experience and training is required. An 18 year old kid doesn't get the keys to a nuclear powered war ship...
