I am having terrible luck with clubs as of late. After getting hit with the kitchen sink in Florida, my recent excursion in Kentucky had me shakin' my head yet again, but not because of a dancer ... rather how the club treats it's customers ....
Arrived with a friend who is a VIP at this particular club. Apparently he can't bring a guest for free. They made me pay a cover charge ... on a Tuesday ... Of course I would have tipped the door girl the amount of the cover charge, so she lost out.
Opened a tab with my Credit Card. They asked for ID. No problem. They brought back a full letter sized page with my card imprinted, my ID copied on it and wanted my signature AND a fingerprint. This wasn't the bill, just some sort of form. I asked what happened to the form and was told it was sent to the home office. Great, they are going to mail all my personal information and my credit card someplace, don't know where ... thanks but no, I said I would just pay cash. It took a bartender, bouncer and the manager of the club to decide to let me pay cash ... after every one of them tried to explain that this was all 'to protect me in case someone had stolen my card'. Sure it was .... Of course the fact that the picture on my ID looked exactly like me had no bearing on the situation ...
Every dancer in the place charged something different for a dance, which of course wasn't mentioned until after the second girl danced for me. First girl was $20 per song. And yes, I asked the first girl for the 'lay of the land' before I got my first dance. Second girl got pissed when I paid her the same amount ... claiming she was $25 per song. Found out later the girls could set their own prices.
Needed to hit the ATM later in the evening. I know, not the best thing to do, but I'm OK with paying a higher fee than my friendly neighborhood bank on those rare ocassions when situations warrant. ATM fee was $5 ... not bad. Oh wait, you can only take out $60 each time you use it. I've seen limits, but never that low. Again, the manager explained it was for 'my protection' to which I replied, 'then why does it allow me to do it multiple times?' Blank stare ...
I finally told the girl that I spent the most time with that the club had cost her at least $300 that night because of the ATM and having to pay cash for our rather large bar tab. She said she heard that all the time from customers, but every time they mention it management blows them off.
Don't get me wrong, I know some of these things are common at some clubs, but to nickel and dime customers and make them jump through hoops just to spend money ... especially in this economy ... is plain stupid. I go to this city a lot for business, but needless to say I won't be going back to that club anytime soon.
Rant over ...![]()
