    Default Brazilian Blowout anyone?

Ever heard of a Brazilian Blowout? It's not a fancy term for a wax/sexual act but it's a new type of hair treatment. It involves a process of coating hair in the ~ special formula ~ and straightening it so it removes frizz, straightens, adds shine, and LASTS for months. It reduces blow dry time by 2/3 and makes hair look great no matter what. And unlike other conditioning treatments, its effects last a very long time and don't just wash out. It's been compared to Japanese Straightening, except it is actually good for your hair and not damaging at all. The original formula for the Brazilian Blowout contained formalydehyde, but the newer solutions do not (thank god).

Soooo I had a consultation and made an appointment at a reputable salon for next week. I have thick, bulky, somewhat straight/somewhat wavy hair. My gripe is that my hair's texture is so inconsistant. It will feel soft as baby hair sometimes, and then other times it will be very coarse. I don't like to spend too much time on heat/styling. I want to amp up the shine in my hair. Other conditioning treatments don't really "do it" for me. The cost? 250 dollars, including a special shampoo/conditioner/weekly mask to maintain the results.

I'm hoping it'll be worth it! Anyone else have experience with the Brazilian Blowouts?

I work with some Brazillian girls who get this done, It looks good, I wouldnt know thesse girls had really curly hair unless I saw it just before treatments redue, they say it conditions there hair too, it lasts for ages , I was shocked the first time I saw 1 girl with really curly hair after months of silky straight hair.

    Here's the site:
    http://www.brazilianblowout.com/index.htm

It seems "brazilian blowout" is the name of a particular product , what you get is a keratin treatment, of which there are several different methods and brands.
    Here's another one:

    http://www.globalkeratin.com/

On makeupalley it's called BKT (brazilian keratin treatment). Good place to see real reviews.

I think Nicole Richie does that. But the Japanese straightening is BARELY in my city right now (one guy I've found that sounds like he knows what he's doing) so I definitely wouldn't venture into that around here. But I'd look into it if I was in a bigger metro.

Hmm... I have ridiculously curly big wild hair. I used a relaxer at one time. This looks promising. I have heard about it, but I don't think they have it in Michigan yet. Maybe Toronto? Hmm.

I saw this in a magazine yesterday! It said Nicole Richie and Halle Berry get it done, but that it only lasts for like 3 months. It's also supposed to be gentle on the hair. I'm thinking about getting it done! The magazine said it costs between $300-600, of course they'd freakin charge me $600 since my hair's long as hell, but it definitely seems worth it!

If any of you get it done, let us know how you like it and also how much it costs!!

I have an appointment to do it in one week. I want new extensions too, but I'm not sure whether or not to install before or after....

Ok, change of plans, going for a consultation Friday morning. She says right now, that I have to choose one or the other, extensions or BKT. I will know all my options as well as all the exact details of the procedure on Friday. I'm deciding whether or not to go to the hairdresser that uses formaldehyde free formula, or the hairdresser that uses the standard one. I heard the FF one isn't as good. They are both reputable brand names though.

JD if your hair is long I'd say get the keratin treatment. There are a lot of "Dominican Salons" where I live (which basically means they are experienced in "textured" hair but not a "hood salon" that does helicopter weaves!) I've seen girls with Kinky are very dry tight curls (Shakira) get it done and there hair looks REALLY good. If you donm't really have course hair it can look a bit greasy though.

Ok, so I did it today. I ordered it online and did it myself, saved a few hundred dollars My hair is crazy shiny, it looks like a mirror. In four days, I can wash it, so I'll let you guys know more then.

I ordered QOD Gold in a 1-2 use kit. I think I used half the product. If you're interested, you can email the girl I ordered from. She knows pretty much everything about this treatment. Her email: [email protected] I even called and spoke to her for a good forty five min. before I made a decision whether to order and do it myself, or pay a ridiculous markup to go have it done. I'm glad I did it myself, if you are already good at styling your hair, save the money and do it yourself. It is really simple, there's not much technique involved. 100$ for the pre shampoo, QOD Gold keratin, after care shampoo and conditioner, dry shampoo for the four days you have to wait. Also, I went ahead and bought a salon quality flat iron (you have to use a flat iron capable of 450 degrees, and the CHI doesn't tell you how hot it gets) which was 75$ So, the whole kit, which I think I can get one more treatment out of it, plus a nice new flat iron for 175$. The salon wanted 400$. Channy is really helpful and is familiar with all the different brands. This one is considered Formaldehyde Free, even though it has trace amounts.

She includes a face mask, which I wore about half the time. The product doesn't smell bad, it smells like bananas. It goes like this: Shampoo your hair, blow dry completely. Put on gloves, apply keratin, comb through. Blow dry completely again. Flat iron in sections, going over each section 7-10 times. Don't get your hair wet for four days. Pretty simple, right? The only freaky thing is, your hair will be smoking when you flat iron it. I was scared I was singeing my hair off (I've done this before) but I wasn't, it was the keratin "fusing" into my hair shaft or something.... I even sat on a white towel in front of the mirror and checked it for breakage, there was none. Sometimes in the bathroom when I blow dry my hair upset down, there will be little broken black hairs all over the ground. This didn't do that at all, so that's good. I will report back in a few days with an update. Here's a picture of how shiny my hair is...

Your hair looks great! Can you use the salon quality flat iron after you use it to do this? And does Channy have a website?

    Thanks!

Yes, its called the Versati flat iron. Although, they say after this treatment, you really don't need to put heat on your hair so much. Channy owns a hair salon in Hawaii, but she's from California. Her number: 808-388-2794. I can't find a website, but she emailed me some pictures if that's what you need.

I tried it and was not super impressed. I honestly don't think I will bother again. I have had people compliment that my hair looks healthier, but I think I could have achieved that with some good conditioning. It doesn't really stay all that straight. I ordered same product as JD. Agreed, didn't really blow me away either.
