    Default Re-piercing my own ear?

It appears that one of my ear piercings has partially closed up. It looks like there's just a thin layer of skin behind the ear lobe that's closed up.

Originally, I was going to go to a piercing studio in town to have it redone. I found the two in town with the best reviews- but after visiting both, I'm pretty frustrated and would rather just do the damn thing myself than pay these people. The first one I went to told me my only options for ear jewelry were hoops or studs in ugly, bulbous, black titanium. The small hoops would cost $40, the less noticeable studs, $75. Regardless of the price, both options were so ugly I didn't want to be stuck with them for weeks. I went to the other shop- they told me they were completely out of any ear studs. I went to a piercing place at the mall and bought some sterilized piercing studs, still sealed in the package.

So I called the first place asked if I could use my own jewelry. They said no, I'd have to buy theirs. I told them I didn't like the two options I was shown, and was told they have "lots of different types of jewelry" (why I was told I had no other options just two days before, I don't know). I called the second place, and asked if I could use my own jewelry. They said no. I reminded them they didn't have any studs. They said I'd have to just wait till they got them in. They also seemed unclear as to whether they could re-pierce the ear, and said they'd probably just have to do a whole new piercing next to it (which would make my piercings uneven, and would look odd).

SO...I'm frustrated now, and just want to open up the damn piercing by myself. Any advice?

do it yourself- i did 3 of my own ear piercing - the ear doesn't hurt that bad - just disinfect it beforehand-(rubbing alcohol)
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

You will need a friend, a cork, ice and a sterile needle. Put ice on the lobe to numb it. Clean it with antiseptic. Place the cork behind the lobe and have your friend pierce the lobe in the same place as the old piercing with the sterile needle.

I do this all the time. I'll go for a long time with no earrings then decide to wear them again. No biggie just keep it all clean and treat it like a new piercing for a few days.

    I agree:
I did my own, kept them clean, and they were totally fine. I was able to score two sterile needles because I worked at a hospital; you want something nice and sharp like that if you can get it. Good luck!

I have been known to shove a piercing through a partially healed hole.... I would definately suggest sterilization first. If it's partially healed, then be prepared for a lil bit of hurting.... However, ear piercings tend to heal slowly.

How long did you have the original piercing?

    Where exactly is it?

These are two important questions to reply to, then we can help you more.

Callista, good point! I totally assumed it was just your average lower ear lobe. If there is any cartilage involved I would definitely go to a professional!
