Good luck!
what new orleans isn't french enough for you? : )
The french foreign legion is certainly what i would call a new direction, yikes.
So you dislike soap and love shitty cigarettes? Just kidding! I liked the FFL guys 1000% more than the regular french army.

La Légion étrangère is not what it used to be. They do background checks and convicted felons can no longer join. They are getting guys with college degrees and even French nationals.
France no longer has a draft so the all volunteer army is doing much of what La Légion étrangère once did. The French peacekeeping force that was sent to Lebanon had 2000 men; only 700 were from La Légion étrangère.
You can apply for French citizenship after three years but you have to do it under your own name. When you join you have to take another name for at least one year. Everyone has to do this so those that want to don’t standout. If you are wounded in action you can apply for citizenship with less than three years service;“Français par le sang versé”.
Now Im sad that I won't get to meet you if I come down.(ok Im done with my selfish moment)
That's very exciting for you though! I hope it all works out.![]()

Best of luck to you!
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

While I'm not the military type, I can certainly sympathize with your desire to obtain an alternate citizenship ! I'm actually pursuing something similar, but it involves a 'foreign country' business investment rather than military service.
I have dual citizenship and love it. If I could make a permanent move I absolutely would. Not that I don't love the USA.![]()
