Default Opening A Nail Salon ? Is this crazy ?

I am having a crazy idea to open a small business!!

I would appreciate your opinion on this scenario:

There is a city of about 200,000 and there is only 2 nails salons that do acrylic and gel there.

I heard about the possible location through my work, it's a former hair salon, just 800 square feet, former occupant just went bankrupt and they want to rent it for $600 per month. The space itself is really cute and done in nice fixtures has a sink and nice wallpaper. Willing to do a 6 month lease or 2 year.

I only have $15,000 to work with. It wouldn't ruin me, but I don't want to loose the money I also do not have a lot of time for this project, like 3 hours per day. I would need to hire a manager.

What do you think? Any idea how much it would cost to equip a nail salon? None of the competition has those electric massage chairs so I don't think I would need those.

    A. there's probably a reason that the former nail salon went bankrupt !

    B. wait 3 months and offer them $400 a month ! Right now Commercial Real Estate is suffering badly, and you'd be amazed how quickly landlords can figure out that 'something' is better than 'nothing' ( with property taxes and utility bills still having to be paid ).

This is just anecdotal but a friend of mine went to get her eye brows done and the two closest places were closed out of business. In this economy people are cutting back on non essentials; the people that used to work at these closed places are probably doing it on the side.

You have to do your homework and get a business plan. I don't think 3 hours a day is enough time for a new start up business.

The last business was a hair salon but your point is well taken. The owner is very distressed and he might cut back on the price you're right. I don't know if 15k is enough anyway... the other salons are charging rediculous prices, $80 for a set of gels. Which was what made me think it might be lucrative. I dunno.

try it out of your home at first. See if you are cut out for it and if there are customers out there.

Um my condo is kinda small... I don't think that would work.

I know this is kinda crazy. Maybe I should forget it. But window shopping for salon furniture is fun fun fun

I personally think it's a great idea! If you can do the gel nails cheaper than the other salons (but still make a profit) and advertise that I think it would go great! I know I ALWAYS go to the cheaper places for my nails.

I imagine some of the small-business issues these people faced will be things you'll have to consider too. Hope this helps.

My boyfriend runs his own business. He works constantly.

I don't think that you can honestly run a business with only 3 hrs a day - not a business like you're talking about.

I do think it's a good concept you have. However.... wait it out, investigate more, and it'll all come together at the right time.

And commercial real estate is about to take a HUGE hit, wait for a while. You might be able to get a steal.

You are correct; there are two Go-G0 bars for sale close to me and there are not that many. One is on a lake with 60 boat slips, the building along with the liquor license has an asking price of 1.5 million.

The OP has 15 thousand she should make an offer.

    consider these three words:

    nail
    fungus
    lawsuit
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
