    Default what my nutritionist said...

So I told my history with food, exercise, my inability to lose weight, and my ED.

She said I have severly screwed up my body, and my metabolism has gone haywire. She compared it to an old clunker car barely chugging along at 20mph, while all the other cars are moving along at a steady smooth 60mph.

So she put me on a special diet, created for people with ED's who are at or above a normal weight, but who's relationship with food is screwed up. It's supposed to reset my body, but it will take a while (trying to repair 10 years of damage).

But, I have gained two pounds in the last week! I called her and she said that is normal since my body doesnt know when I will next starve it or purge, and it is not used to being fed normal portions consistently.

Should I trust her? I am having a hard time believing her...

She's right. It's a difficult process but if you can get through it you will be so much happier, and maintaining your weight will be much much easier.

I screwed my metabolism up pretty bad years ago and I was at the point where I had to eat 1200 calories a day or I'd put on weight. In order to lose weight, I had to eat 1000 or less. It was hell.

I ended up gradually raising my daily calories making sure that those calories came from healthy food sources and one year later, I now eat 2000 to 2500 calories a day for maintenance. I'm 5'4" 125 and 17% body fat. Life is so much easier now. I can actually eat like a person.

One thing though, did she up your calories considerably? I went up 200 calories at a time and would maintain it for a few weeks to let my body adjust before upping them again. Raising the calories really high right away will cause some weight gain. I think mentally it's a lot easier to do it slowly so that you don't start putting on weight and feeling lousy about it.

^^God that sounds nice...maintain at 2000cal/day. Right now I am where you were...eating 1200/day just to maintain...it sucks.

She told me not to count calories b/c of my ED. So I am not eating any junk food whatsoever, and ordering out as healthy as possible. She is having me watch Portion Sizes instead.
