... none - because they can't give you feedback. Having feedback and a spotter is a huge key to safe learning.

I'm self taught. It's the best way to go before you take any classes or buy any videos. I know my strengths and limitations. There were some tricks that came easier than others, but I was surprised what I could learn safely & quickly on my own.

I have a handful of pole dvds at home, but seriously save your money and search on youtube. I found youtube to be a great (free) resource.

^^^ Youtube has a ton of videos of people doing tricks in ways that aren't safe. Seriously, wrist injuries and rotator cuff injuries (the two most common) are worth avoiding by learning from an experienced instructor.

If you can't find a live class, Studioveena.com is really helpful. It's a pole forum and she does have lessons you can purchase but signing up and joining the forums is free!

I really can't recommend a single video. Imo, you must learn by doing.

For a B-day gift, my man bought me a series of 3 months worth of pole classes from Evolve dance studio. My instructor is the spokesmodel for X-Pole and an ex-gymnest. I have also worked with another instructor who won the Polympics in 2008.

Both are great with different styles: one more graceful the other more athletic. I saw this one woman completely transform over a period of 6 weeks. She's not an exotic dancer, but damn, her gracefulness and her fluidity and daringness on the pole is something I have not yet seen in a strip club! And she's not young.

I am self taught, but have been doing the same tricks for years. I've learned better techniques and a whole lot of new tricks. I'm cleaning up sloppy habits and working on trying to kick my 'spinning dyslexia'.

I've learned off of vids on youtube in the past. It's not a bad thing, but now I know how to NOT hurt myself.

But I agree, that I think it's advantageous to have some experience before investing in classes.
