Default Personal Trainers give a hoot hoot!

Anyone here also work as a personal trainer or have insight on personal training? I'm technically a dance major. But I love to work out, I understand the mechanics of it, I want to study how to train people and help them achieve their goals. I can be tough but loving, and a creative problem solver. I know one personal trainer who said it'd be a great fit for my "lifestyle" and I think I agree but I'm just curious who else out there knows...

I've been seriously considering becoming a trainer for about 6 months. The things stopping me are I don't really have a lot of time right now, most of them don't make much money especially just starting out, and I take the whole issue too seriously. I don't think I could handle someone giving me bullshit excuses as to why they won't follow a program and take responsibility for themselves and their actions. I think it would wear on me.

Good for you if you do it though. I think it's a noble pursuit for the trainers who actually really care about their clients. I also think we need more of the good ones.

I resonate with the former poster, good for you, honestly though I kinda have a girl crush on my dance instructor she is so awesome. I thought about doing this for a while, but I don't know I might get a bit nervous in front of group lessons. LOL. I dance too, well obviously, but I mean I've danced since I was 3, ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap, modern, currently latin and hip hop as well as 10 years of gymanastics. I'm so not into running though. And I can do pilates (great for abs you'll never do a crunch again) but without music I think too much and it becomes too much of a chore, emotionally LOL.

I just ordered the manuals for an ACE certification and I'm thinking of people I know who might like some "free training" while I get experience with this. Yay!!

I been thinking about trying it out. I have a few people that wish I was a trainer.

i'm a qualified trainer and yoga teacher and have worked in the industry on and off for several years. going in you don't get a lot of cash but once you are experienced and getting your own clients you can make a lot of money. hours can be long but if it's doing something you love it doesn't feel like work per se.

i'd suggest getting the BEST education. i did my first round of certificates in the US and honestly they were shit. find a few key things that really interest you (for me its yoga and functional training) and study them as well. that will give you a draw card that other trainers don't have and you will also avoid more 'generic' training sessions which can bore you senseless!

for me its about helping people get the most out of their life - and in my eyes if you don't have health and fitness you have no foundation! some people go into it for money, for freedom of work hours, to help people 'lose weight' ... all fine reasons but its amazing when you find trainers with a bit more depth and are really driven to help people on more than just a superficial level.

if you're feeling the pull i'd say go ahead :-)
