    Default Wedding Speech -

My Daughter will be married to her high school BF this weekend, after being together nearly 8 years, they are taking the next big step. The wedding is all planned, all paid for, rooms taken care of, everyone will arrive Friday, but one thing remains...

I'm still working on what to say, a toast to her and her new husband.

I don't know why I'm having trouble coming up with what to say, how to prune it down to something not too long, but am trying to touch on so many things:

To say a few words welcoming everyone...

Talk about my daughter and just how wonderful she is, somethings about watching her grow up.

Talk some about meeting her BF, my tendency to be very protective and maybe an apology for not welcoming him sooner, but to see now what a great guy he is. To thank him for how well he has treated her, and welcome him as son-in-law into my life.

There are couple of stories from her past I am considering bringing up, special memories for me.

God I suck at public speeches being a natural born introvert.

    Ideas welcome please.

Wish them the best, and hope that their marriage will last at least half as long as their courtship. Heh. j/k

You obviously love your little girl and are proud of the woman she's grown up to be. Keep it short, keep it simple, speak from the heart and you'll be fine.

    Best of luck!

I agree with Verf. Try not to over-think things and keep it short and simple.

    Congratulations X.

I think your original ideas were in the right vein. Like the others said, keep it simple. From the heart.

Someone here told me that they were disappointed that their own father had made no effort to think of something to say. I know my own wife felt the same, that it was disappointing her father couldn't even take a few hours out to think about somethings to say. She obviously deserves that and I want to do that. Just not something I have any experience doing and I haven't attended many weddings.

Thanks for the thoughts.. i agree, heartfelt, not over planned, and shorter is better.

That is wonderful! I think the speeches at weddings are almost the best part.

So many people took the stage at our wedding that it started to resemble a political convention. No surprise, given my friends.

Acknowledge both of them and their promises and hopes. Yes, short and simple. And enjoy the wedding!

Everything went extremely well. Thanks to those who responded. She was very happy with the whole event.

My only remaining question is why did I just find a pair of women's panties stuffed into my carry-on size bag, size which is definitely not my S.Os.? Funny but also not (a good way to get a guy into deep shit trouble). Okay that weirdness aside, her guests (the majority friends of hers) were extremely well behaved, even with the open bar people got relaxed enough for much dancing but nobody got shit-faced drunk. Woohoo.
