    Default Cooking question!

So, I'm leaving for Austin on the 1st and cooking dinner for R on Sunday night. I have two menus planned. Which one do you like better? Remember I am a vegetarian, so I made them easily convertible.

    One:
    Tofu and vegetable curry
    Palak paneer
    Jasmine rice
    Homemade naan
    Homemade mango sorbet for dessert

    Two:
Wild mushroom mezzaluna pasta with mushroom ragout
    Homemade caesar salad
Olive, spiced tomato and mozzarella "bruschetta"
    Berries and zabaglione for dessert

Second part of the question: Anyone here ever made homemade pasta and how did it go? If I go with option two I am debating buying premade pasta sheets so I can just cut them and slam them into whatever shape I want and fill them myself.

I am also cooking this in just an apron! Stripper Martha Stewart anyone?

I say #2 if he is not a veg. as Tofu is a bit of an acquired taste. I have never home made pasta but my Sis ex bf is a (almost famous- LOL) chef and he did it all the time, it's fairly easy but time consuming.

Or would you do number one and make a bit of grilled chicken breast or shrimp for his portion in leui of tofu?

^^ He's a chef. He eats nearly everything. If he doesn't dig tofu I would totally throw some sauteed chicken in his portion.

Thanks for the pasta bit too. It does seem time consuming but I'm good at figuring stuff like that out. On the other hand, if I spent forever trying to make it and then it sucked, I'd hit the fucking moon.

^Sorry, the Indian just sounds good to me right now. Not completely objective.

Oh yeah, duh! You said he was a chef. I think the Indian sounds good but maybe have some of that thin cut (for Scallopini or however you spell it) on stand by.

I really like the second, but I am a huge fan of Mushrooms. Plus, then you don't really have to worry about adding chicken or whatever.

OMG! You mean we can only just pick one and not both? Too tough of a decision, sorry. Both sound absolutely delightful!

#2, but I'm a vegetarian and a HUGE pasta and even bigger mushroom fan. (Instead of meat in a dish, I eat Port Caps 90% of the time.)

Oh, I'm a decent cook and I've tried homemade pasta and it didn't go so well. Quite a bit of work and the refridgerated stuff was just as good, imo.

#2 but I am Italian. Homemade pasta isn't real hard but a lot of work. Fresh refrigerated in stores is almost as good. Try to find a little Italian deli-store that makes it fresh. Some clams or mussels in the sauce really sets it off too if you eat that.

Do you have a pasts press? If so, it's not that hard. Although if it is not something your used to, why not just have a pack of redi-made fresh pasta as backup. Then if you're not happy with the results you won't be left with nothing.

    Best of luck!

I cannot stand Italian food. So, I would suggest go with the Indian food; which tribe though?

You know, I'm not sure if he has one or not. I would imagine so. Though I am leaning towards Indian at the moment. I love making sorbet.

I am kinda of worried he's going to eat it and be like PSH AMATEUR. Haha. I'm hoping the naked thing will offset anything that isn't up to par.

Crap now I'm hungry but I have to get showered for work.

^^^ Yeah, here's guessing that no matter how things turn out, it will be the thought that counts. Besides, no matter what desert is likely to be outstanding.

^^^ Heh, bringing along a sioux chef might be kind of a buzz kill, especially if the apron only policy is for the entire kitchen staff.

#1 for sure, esp. with the homemade naan (and hopefully homemade paneer too!) Oh, and instead of Jasmine rice, why not Basmati? You can even add a teaspoon of cumin seeds to the rice while it cooks for a more aromatic effect!

I have a weakness for Indian cooking, and it's a good thing you aren't making Ras Malai... otherwise your dessert would definitely be compromised! Yummers!
