I posted this under the Obama health care thread, but where dancers are concerned it probably warrants a separate thread. Yup indeed a 10% surtax on all cosmetic procedures is being contemplated to help pay for national health insurance. This will add $500 - $1000 to the cost of future US 'boob jobs' ... and in the process prompt lots of girls to travel out of the country for less expensive cosmetic surgery (ex Thailand) ... which in turn will force US plastic surgeons to increase their fees ( to spread the cost of malpractice insurance etc. over a smaller number of patients ) ... which in turn will prompt even more girls to travel out of the country for less expensive cosmetic surgery.
The 'dynamic' of this proposed new tax is much the same as any other US tax which is not 'echoed' by foreign competitors.

How is Hollywood reacting to this? Since most Actors and Actresses rely on cosmetic to extend their careers and overwhelming vote Deomcrat? Feeling betrayed no doubt.

Well, if certain celebrities like David Letterman are any example, they are 'earning' far more money via their large investments in green energy ventures yielding huge 'production tax credits' than the extra 10% in cosmetic surgery tax will cost them. Unfortunately for the rest of us, the typical 'minimum buy-in' for such investments ( private partnerships ) is in the million dollar range. Letterman's huge investments in Iowa ethanol corn farms and nearby ethanol refineries ( which yield both farm subsidies PLUS ethanol production tax credits ) had to have run into the tens of millions. And even without such tax favored investments, if a celebrity is earning 10 million plus per year an extra $1000 in cosmetic surgery tax is pocket change.Since most Actors and Actresses rely on cosmetic to extend their careers and overwhelming vote Deomcrat? Feeling betrayed no doubt
However, I suspect that most dancers would 'feel some pain' soon having to come up with an extra $1000 to get the boob job they have been saving up for over the last year !

Most actors don't earn that much and would like to continue earning a living by acting. Using a PS for touchups is pretty common, especially for women actors, who seem to age faster than men. Besides if they keep at it, maybe that big part will come to them.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.
NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

^^^ I wouldn't worry too much ... after all the Obama stimulus package had a line item subsidy specifically targeted for Hollywood !

I am speechless. This is so absurd. If the Democrats follow through with something this petty and invasive into personal privacy, they've lost me for good.

^^^ yes but in the opinion of some, since someone contemplating plastic surgery can afford to spend many thousands of dollars on a 'luxury', those persons can also afford to spend 10% more on a 'luxury' tax ... to be restributed by the gov't to others who are less 'well off' financially.
Arguably, this same theme offers the potential for the imposition / increasing of all sorts of 'sales' taxes on all sorts of 'non-essential' items.
