    Default Laser Hair Removal...

    Hey y'all.

I've been doing a lot of research on LHR (I'm considering getting my pubic area done), and I'm trying to figure out why more people don't get it.

I realize we have past threads about this, but none of them are current.

    So.

Have you had it done (or has someone you know had it done)? Did it work for you/them? Horror stories? Success stories? Words of warning? I'm looking for any information...especially 'downsides.'

I feel like if it were a near-perfect procedure, everyone would get it and just be done with it all, but I'm having problems finding anecdotal information.

    Thanks!!

I had it done. Schedule your first three treatments when you will NOT be working...your skin will look mutilated for like 3 days or so after the treatment. Also, buy the numbing creme cause it will hurt-not awful, but enough that I wanted the creme and bought it. I had 6 treatments done. Its been two years or so since, and I have some regrowth-sparse, but still there. So, I am thinking of getting a few more treatments to get rid of entirely.

My dog had his nuts removed through laser surgery. He was released the next day from the hospital and was running around healthy. I do not know how useful this piece of information can be to you but the treatment certainly cannot be that dangerous unless something horribly goes wrong during the procedure. Keep in mind concentrated laser is a dangerous thing but I am sure these treatments were carefully planned by the professionals. Sorry, I could not be of any further help. I hope everything goes smoothly for you if you decide to go with the treatment.

    ^^ HuH??!?!

Anyway, Charlie... I had this done to my WHOLE body. 7 treatments over 1 year.

I did use numbing creme on my bikini area, which they provided every time.. everywhere else it was okay. Painful but you can handle it (ok I can lol). I didnt have any redness or bumps after. The only downside for me personally was that I wasn't able to tan. They want your skin to be as light as possible and so I was completely pale for a whole year. You cant even use self-tanner because the laser catches pigments/color of your skin instead of the hair and it hurts more. The lighter you are the less painful it is. Also, you're a better candidate if you have really dark hair.

You're absolutely right about it being less than perfect. I thought I would lose at least 80% of the hair and would shave like once a week. Unfortuntely that didnt happen and I still have to shave every 2 days. I will definitely resume treatments again... when I'm ready to be pale again lol

    I hope this helps!

Hmm...so it sounds like getting the "unlimited" treatment option would be my best bet? I think places like American Laser offer a deal where you get 6 treatments, and then any further treatments you need are 'on them.'

Yes, I am going to American Laser now...and have been for almost two years. I do not know how I feel about them, because I've definitely had at least 10 treatments and the hair is not gone (it's prob 60% still there) and I'm getting my underarms, extended brazilian, and lip done. Also know if you go there, they say it's a brazilian, however when you go in for treatments, they all of a sudden say that cannot do the inside part of your labia. Ok, so I am paying for a brazilian and now you say you can't treat that hair? anyways, if you dont mind getting treatments for 3 years (because that's probably how long it will take) then go with them. But also, I would research reviews on them before you go. If you actually want laser hair removal that works, go to a doctors office or reputable clinic. But if you want to save money...go to american laser.

May I inquire as to your skin color/hair color? I've heard that can seriously affect the effectiveness of LHR...

I had pretty light untanned skin and black hair when I got it done. It did a great job, but I wasn't very hairy to begin with. I believe the place I went to was able to do the inside of my labia? Cuz I don't have any hair there...

I guess you'd call it a medi-spa, this little place in Massachusetts, only it was called Viva Skincare then: http://iloveabeautifulyou.com/laser-hair-removal.php

I got my whole bikini area done except I kept a little landing strip. Three years later I just have a few little hairs here and there that I can easily and pretty much painlessly tweeze or quickly shave off in the shower. Most are so tiny and blond that I can't even see them without looking really hard and craning my neck down there lol.

The laser treatment was part of a bikini/underarm package, but my bikini area was all I really cared about. My armpit hair (ew that sounds gross) was coarser, and I still have some, but it's probably like 1/2 or 1/3 of what it was before. I still shave, but I could probably skip it for a week or more and no one would ever notice, it's so light.

Also, I've heard that if you get pregnant or your hormones otherwise change, you may get more regrowth.

    Good luck!

Add: I dont't think I had any numbing cream, though they spread on some gel before they lasered...I don't remember if it numbed at all though. It hurt, kind of like a rubber band snapping on your skin as the laser fried each hair, but it was over quickly and wasn't that bad anyway.

I read that they're more careful w/the cream these days, after some lady applied some at home to her legs before driving to her laser appointment and uh, died.

I have considered laser too, but please keep this in mind:
Laser hair removal is only for hair reduction. The only thing for permenant hair removal is electrolysis. Electrolysis is much more time consuming and expensive. I want to go for lhr on my legs pubic and brazilian regions lol! A reduction for me would do me well. Hoping ot get lhr done soon, using the old "will help me reduce my carbon footprint" as an excuse since I wont have to use plastic razors and shave as much. I have tried sugaring which I prefer over waxing, but getting the mixture you make at home a perfect consistency is trial and error. For now I sugar my brazilian area lol and shave the rest.

Ok. I used to be a really hirsute girl. I've tried waxing, electrolysis, shaving, those home electrolysis machines (save your money) and the ONLY thing that worked for me was laser hair removal.

I've had it done on my armpits, bikini line, abdomen, and around my nipples. It is the best thing to have ever happened to my body hair.

It's been about 5 years since my last treatment, and i would say my body hair is probably 90 percent gone. Like, with my bikini line, I would say I need to shave it every few days or so. But the hair is so sparse and fine (ESPECIALLY compared to before) that it isn't a big deal.

I have been incredibly satisfied with the results. I am also an ideal candidate for the procedure--I have pale white skin and dark, coarse hair. I have gone to various laser clinics around New Orleans. None of them were chains. I went to like, esthiology places or salon/spas that had lasers.

The pain varied in intensity depending on where they were zapping. With my armpits, I literally cried. Bikini line was no big deal. And I did not look all gory afterwards. I just had some redness, like a sunburn, that subsided quickly. And then you can see all the little dead, fried hairs popping out, these little black specks, which isn't too cute.

The price wasn't cheap, but it wasn't super expensive either. I want to say I got discounted packages because I bought a lot of treatments at once, but I don't remember what I paid--it has been too long.

Also, make sure you are not doing it right before your period. It really does make a difference in terms of your pain threshold.

I would list some downsides, but for me, there haven't been any. I can wholeheartedly recommend this procedure.

Hello, just saw this thread again...

I am light skinned with dark hair. I'm of german/Irish descent...and got the Irish side of the skin tone. I'm hairy, but not worse than most people I've seen. My head hair is thick/frizzy but my pubes were straight. odd? If you want a picture just PM me your email and I can email you one. I kind of suck at editing/cropping photos so it would probably be a big file to post on here.

On the same laser note...I would love to get my legs done. I hate body hair! unfortunately I can't afford it at the moment. I will most likely go to a med-spa or dermatologists office to get my legs done and will let you know how that goes (I'm looking to start treatments for that in the winter).

One good thing with American laser (in Atlanta and Richmond- I can't speak for the other cities they are in) is that I have never been burned by the laser. I have a friend who went to a different company in florida and she was burned by the laser.

Oh, and there is no numbing cream there. I usually just take Ibuprofen 30 minutes before I go.

...there have been recent advances made in hair removal...many skin clinics still use the old way, dont go there.

-Go to a dermatologists office. The Cutera laser is what you need to do. Its permanent hair removal, you have 4 treatments spaced minimum 6weeks apart and thats it.

I've been going to Ideal Image in South Florida for glabella (sp? area between eyebrows), underarms, and full brazilian. Cost $2200 and well worth it already!

I've been to 5 or 6 treatments, each about 10 weeks apart. There is zero regrowth on my underarms and eyebrow... My bikini is a bit harder to get rid of. There is no more thick hair (sorry if TMI!) but instead a few little patches of sparse hair that u can feel but barely see. Easy to shave off... But will hopefully be gone in my next few treatments!!

Hurts like hell- I almost babied out twice. For me, if I go when I'm on my period or ovulating it's intolerable. Something you might want to be aware of!

The worst part for me, is what it looks like right after treatment. The first 4 times it was red like a sunburn... But the last two times it looked BUMPY (not little bumps from irritated skin, like BIG red bumps that I thought were going to blister!) but miraculously went away and looked like completely normal skin in about an hour...

    I say go for it!

If you decide to do it, be careful with the numbing cream. There have been deaths associated with it.

I am in the process of getting a brazilian extended. I am not far into it, going for treatment #2on Monday. So far I am impressed after one treatment... The hair is no where near gone but it has become more sparse and soft. We are doing at least six treatments, one every 4 weeks. She said by the time we are done I should be at least 80% hair free, I should only have a few "renegade" hairs here and there. I paid $700 for my 6 treatments and any "touch up" treatments I may need for the next year.
