Dizzy Can't get a dance job because of recession

I quit dancing for a while to have my baby. She is 2 now - I am back in shape and look even better because I now have some hips and a booty! I have been wanting to go back and auditioning and every club so far ( i went to 3) tells me the same things- they have too many girls and not enough guys and to try back in a few weeks/ a month ( this is in Los Angeles west side)...
It is frustrating because I feel like the manager is going to forget who I am ( despite my striking look)the more weeks pass and I feel like a d- bag calling every other day asking if things have gotten better. I am trying not get all caught up in the negative" Recessionitis- you'll never get a job ever again mentality" but what else could it be when a good looking girl and trained dancer can't get a job taking her clothes off?? I've never expeeinced this in this industry. I need a flexible good paying night job until my daughter hits school age or else I would probably say it and look for a striaght day gig.
Any body having the same problem- any advice?

I did go to a club the other day that had a stack of "applications" at the front door. Filled one out and handed to the barback who said he was going to get the manager. I sat down. They had a handful of girls, some of whom were bigger than me and some who had busted bodies so I was pretty confident I'd get hired, but I'm waiting and waiting waiting for the manager. A dancer told me I was a cutie. Two customers came over to talk to me. About 30 minutes have gone by and I'm still waiting. In walks this 19 year old who was skinny but def. not traditionally hot and hands the app to the barback. ALL OF THE SUDDEN POOF! manager appears. I was really pissed, the bar was kind of too divey for me any way plus really far.

I'm so worried about this! When I called the club I'm looking to get hired at and asked if they were hiring they said I had to come to amatuer night. I asked if they were hiring and they said they couldn't tell me. What the hell?
I'm thinking I might have to work at another club that is known for having a lot of "extras".
This sucks! We're all attractive ladies here! I'm sure if we persist eventually the club will realize we're hot stuff.

Unfortunately, these rotten economic times have prompted all sorts of girls to consider 'stripping'. Thus the clubowners know that new dancers are a 'dime a dozen' ... meaning they are free to pick and choose based on whatever sort of criteria seems to strike their fancy. Something like this happened after the dot-com bust and 9/11, although today's economic conditions are arguably worse.

For some clubowners this means choosing girls who are likely to provide maximum income for the club ... which from the clubowner's standpoint means that the new girl will draw in new customers, keep customers coming back, and sell lots of VIPs from which the club gets a cut. Unfortunately, one of the obvious ways for a new dancer to do this is to offer extras.

For some clubowners this means indulging their own ... 'preferences'. In some cases this might mean that the club winds up hiring new dancers who are all tall and skinny, or all have good sized breast implants, or all have some other attribute that matches up with the clubowner's personal vision of the 'ideal woman'. While this may be somewhat stupid from a customer point of view, customers aren't doing the hiring clubowners are.

And for a few clubowners / managers, this means an opportunity to indulge their own ... 'depravities'. In this situation, the 'pole skills' that the clubowner / manager is interested in evaluating during an audition may have nothing to do with the pole on stage !

Unfortunately, while a dancer being stunningly beautiful, or a dancer having amazing skills on stage, or a dancer having a magnetic personality etc. may mean a lot to the dancer herself in terms of self-esteem and dancer income, those attributes don't necessarily translate into more money for the CLUB or more 'fringe benefits' for the clubowner / manager.

Weird..... a lot of clubs tend to hire any broad that walks in the door all in order to collect yet another house fee. This is, of course designed to offset the lack of room/drink/door profits and to put the burden of paying the club bills on the girls backs... peachy!

I am shocked to see that LA clubs are (in a sense) doing right by their current dancers. That being said, I am sorry that you are having a hard time. Just keep coming back till they hire you or expand your search and look elsewhere. It's only a matter of time till you get that job.

    Good luck.

wow maybe your "look" isn't what they are looking for at those particular clubs. All the clubs I ever heard of are always looking for girls.

I thought it was just me and my age and MY color. I stopped dancing and returned. I am older but most people cant tell my age. I on the other hand had a great deal of trouble with my color. But hearing this from you guys makes me beleie it isnt just me or my color. Thanks.

the clubs are oversaturated where i am as well. lots of new 18 year olds coming in, lots of 50-somethings not retiring, and all the people who keep reading stories on cnn about how the porn industry is thriving despite the recession.

i am trying to find a state where the clubs aren't so dense with dancers.

It's no so much as the state. you Gotta find a college town where there isn't shit else to do but go to the strip club. I live in st. louis, but go to small towns with strip clubs, and I bank.

i think i watched at least 5 maybe 6 different girls get turned down tonight whereas 1 new girl was starting. i remember when she auditioned a few days ago she had a certain attitude my manager liked. i know that's what got me hired, besides looking hot that night, i told him i wanted to have a drink and look around before auditioning at arguably the best club in manhattan. he liked that.. and my turtleneck sweater that cuts off below my boobs
but enough about me, one of the main probs i think is that a lot of non-experienced girls are turning to stripping with all the job loss so lower-tier clubs that don't require experience are going to have more hot girls perhaps? i feel like more 6's and 7's are giving it a shot to get hired at my club at this point. maybe they've had to move up from other clubs?
idk but things seem rough. but this whole summer was rough but i still worked for the most part. so i personally don't like a bunch of new girls getting hired now for the good season when the rest of us stuck through the bad one.

I agree that traveling is a good option. Although it is not ideal for those with small children, traveling may be what you have to do. I have bunches of clubs hiring all over the US, but none anywhere in CA. All the clubs there are full from what I have heard from the clubs we book features in.

Good luck, there will be a job for you out there. BTW, you may be better off getting a reg job for the sake of your baby- even if you find a job the $ in clubs is so unsteady these days.

I have to deal with the types of clubs that won't turn anyone away. It is a headache. At least those clubs will think of the dancers they already have instead of their bottom line. At the same time it is a double edged sword if you are on the outside looking in.

That seems really strange... I got back in town around the same time this thread was started... and I tried out a few clubs, got hired at all of them on the spot. O_O
[moved around to find a good fit a bit... so I worked at 4-5 clubs]
I live on the west side, too... soo. I'm curious as to which clubs were tried.

This is REALLY surprising to me... because with my abundance of tattoos and piercings [esp facial piercings] it's normally harder for me to find a club than it is most of my friends.

Go to stripclublist.com type in your area code and look for clubs within a 100 miles of where you are. Be sure to call the club before driving all that way. I still live in st. louis and I have driven up to 3 hours to be at a club in a small town, cause I knew I was gonna bank. Sometimes I would stay in that town over night, most nights I would just redbull up and come home. I know other girls who live in st. louis that go to a lot of the same small town clubs I go to. Even when I was in Atlanta I went to a club outside atlanta and made really good money.

What I know about small towns is that most times they don't have a lot of hot girls, and the girls they do have that are hot just don't have big city swagger.

Has this ever backfired on me? One and a half times. The half time I went to a club last year that didn't like black girls, but everyone else made about a grand or close to it, and this was during the recession in a small town. The other time, the place was a whore house. All the whores were making money. I think I left with like 45 bucks. So never go without gas money to get home on.

I am use to working at white clubs and dont want to turn to the black ones. They are offering 5 dollar table dances but then charge 60 dollar tip out. Come on. Talk about a hard ass hustle. First 11 dances are the clubs. And I dont have one of those big thunder behinds or light skin so the black men arent really that in to me either way. White boys still like my look but dang the white clubs wont let me in the door.
