    Mind Blowing Kitty shaving 101

Because I'm completely new to this. And I'm having issues.

I couldn't find a thread on exactly what I was looking for, so I thought I'd start a new one.

Tips for avoiding razor bumps and ingrown hairs?
    How often should I shave?
    Tips for smoothest shave possible?
    Suggested razors?
    Suggested shaving cream?
    Any misc. tips?

Like I said, I'm new to this, and I really don't want to screw up.

For me the best way to avoid razor bumps and ingrowns is to shave in the direction the hair grows rather than shaving against the grain.
It still looks/feels smooth (although, obviously shaving against the direction of hair growth is smoother, but tends to cause irritation and ingrowns) and haven't had an ingrown since I started shaving this way.

Exfoliate afterwards. Always helps. Use antibacterial soap before and after. Unscented deodorant after shaving works for me. I always use a men's razor; you don't have to press as hard for the desired result, and obviously pubic hair is coarser than leg hair, but not quite a coarse as whiskers.

ALWAYS CLEAN YOUR RAZOR AFTERWARDS. Rinse thoroughly, and if you can, dip in alcohol and then rise it off. Store it in a dry place, not in the shower where it is always damp and grody.

I haven't had bumps or itchiness in years, so I must be doing something right.

Shave daily, in a hot bath. Iv been doing that for years AND I can shave against the the hairs direction and not get bumps. I think its a mix of doing everyday, not using a blunt razor and always having a hot bath (softens the skin). I dont think I could get away with such little prep in a shower.

Oh, and I use Original Sourse Tea Tree and Mint shower gel too, or the Lavender and Tea Tree one.

Use a clean razor that is sharp (I like Venus Divine) and use some sort of shaving cream in warm or hot water. Use antibacterial soap after shaving. Exfoliate as well. Then use a deodorant (more antibac stuff in it). Put on some lotion as well to help with razor burn if it happens. If you still get ingrowns, use tea tree oil on it, try to pluck the hair out, and exfoliate some more.

don't use the same razor in the same sitting for your ass, armpits, legs and cooter.

wear cotton panties, no synthetic or decorated tight thongs etc when you're off duty.

Also- I used to have 4-5 hairs per follicle and ALWAYS got horrible ingrowns. I had laser therapy and now just one hair per follicle and no more ingrowns!!

Always use a sharp razor, shave towards the end of the shower (steam softens hair) and shave against the direction of hair growth. Use a bunch of shaving cream. I have been doing this for years and never get ingrowns! And I shaved daily before I got laser

I wouldnt reccomend shaving against the direction of hair growth..youre lucky that doesnt give you ingrowns..I think most people it does cause irritation

King of Shaves gel is awesome! I think it's made for men, but it's an antibacterial shave gel that goes on clear so you can see where you're shaving. All the other specifics have already been mentioned, but i figured I would mention that product since it really helps when shaving that area.

Definately. Even if I do it in a hot bath, like recommended above, I get MASSIVE irritation if I try to shave two days in a row like that.

all of the above and afterwards if I put curel on the area (top riangle not underneath!!) and let it sit for a few minutes...also waxing doesn't cause me to get ingrowns and lasts a few weeks...Oh and sephora makes an anti ingown hair pad that works well also...

I have massively sensitive skin and bad razor bumps but did notice, in addition to what the others have said about direction and razors, I put hair conditioner on as soon as I have gotten wet from the shower and let it sit a while (Softens hair), after I swab with alcohol. I very rarely get bumps. It hurts a little but it's better than the alternative!

I use Schick Quattro razors because they have 4 blades and they have the tiny wires over them which help avoid cutting the skin. Other razors get a little too close and cut me a lot. The Quattro gives me a close shave without cuts.

It's best to shave in a warm or hot bath. Shave IN the water. It may seem weird at first, but the warm water helps soften the skin for a better shave with less irritation. Part of what causes irritation is using too many strokes - shaving in the bath lets you use fewer strokes

I shave against the grain and I have had only the rarest ingrowns, and haven't had any in years, since I started shaving in the bath.

I have heard that applying plain unscented deodorant to the area immediately after shaving prevents razor bumps, but I don't really have issues so I don't bother.

I try to not shave too often. I also always shave with the orange venus razor (i dunno what it's called, but it's disposable). I also swear by using Pantene pro v conditioner for a shave gel. It makes your skin SO soft. I also put Ban deodorant on my cookie and pits after I get done shaving - i've found it's a lifesaver for preventing bumps. Sometimes the kitty itches afterwards, but i try to not scratch.... just sorta smack it if she's bare, or scratch with panties on top. I also try to always wear cotton panties - it's much better for down there.
